历史

Stephen Haweis was the youngest son of Hugh Reginald and Mary Eliza Haweis (née Joy), a socially prominent couple in late Victorian London. Stephen Haweis studied art in Paris with Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939) and Eugène Anatole Carrière (1849-1906). After becoming interested in photography, Stephen met the sculptor Auguste Rodin (1840-1917) and photographed many of the sculptor's pieces. In 1903 he married the poet Mina Loy (1882-1966); they were divorced in 1917. After losing much of his inheritance in the stock market crash of 1929, Stephen moved to Dominica, where he painted and wrote for local newspapers and worked on various writing projects until his death.
