File contains typed and handwritten draft copies of the declaration of Charles Spring, with index. Supporting exhibits provide an accounting of monetary losses during the 1892-1893 sealing season.

File contains documents relating to the schooner "Favourite," also called "Favorite." Documents include statements and declarations by Spring regarding "Favourite;" insurance policy; vouchers for expenses incurred by "Favourite;" account and expense sheets, including list of improvements and repairs, provisions purchased, and wages earned; claim to Pelagic Sealing Commission; statement from captain Amos Ellis; and other documents.

Schooner "Henrietta" documents

File contains documents relating to the schooner "Henrietta." Documents include accounts and expense sheets, including an accounting of expenses to outfit the vessel, lists of improvements and repairs, and payments to crew; promissory notes / receipts for advances to the crew.

Memorial of the owners of sealing schooners…

File contains a memorial regarding regulations restricting the sealing industry brought forth by 25 owners of a number of vessels, including the "Venture," "Penelope," and ships formerly owned by Spring, "Favourite" (or "Favorite") and "Kate." The memorial is addressed to the Governor-General of Canada in Council.

Petition to Canadian House of Commons

The file contains three copies of a 1914 petition prepared by Spring and brought forth by owners and masters of sealing vessels during the 1892 season. The petition requests an enlargement of the scope of the Pelagic Sealing Commission to include their claims for compensation. One of the copies is signed and two are unsigned. The petition is addressed to the House of Commons of Canada.

Agreement and account of crew for schooner "Venture"

The file contains the agreement and account of crew for the schooner "Venture," owned by Donald Urquhart. The document serves as an employment contract for the voyage and provides a list of crew members and particulars of engagement, discharge, and release. Notes the desertion of three crew members.

In the back after a number of blank pages are also some family snapshots. Many of the photos are captioned in fading pencil. The album may have belonged to a member of Kathleen Murray's family.

An album of photographs taken by an English visitor mostly of various places and views throughout Vancouver, plus a few of Niagara Falls. The album has been disassembled and is housed in a box. There are 67 original albumen prints in plastic sleeves, with silver gelatin copies and their negatives attached to each one. There are also seven modern reproductions.

File contains records of the U.B.C. Campus Community Alliance, which consisted of representatives from AUCE Local 1, the Teaching Assistants Union, the Graduate Students' Society, the Alma Mater Society, the Co-operative Christian Campus Ministry, the Solidarity Coalition, and others.

File contains meeting minutes, correspondence, press releases, and other records of the U.B.C. AUCE Affiliation Bulletin (January 22, 1981) includes referendum results on whether AUCE members wish to affiliate with the Canadian Labour Council.

AUCE Provincial Dispatch no. 13 (November 27, 1980) includes by-election results, and the results of a special assessment which passed to provide financial assistance to Local 1.

AUCE Provincial News: Special Issue on Affiliation (December 1980) includes discussion and opinion pieces on the advantages and disadvantages of various ways to affiliate with the CLC.

[Provincial Constitution]

File contains a provincial constitution dated September 25-26, 1982. Topics discussed include objectives, jurisdiction, membership, information on the provincial executive and officers, nominations and elections, referendums, conventions, revenue and finances, strikes and lockouts, discipline, procedures, and bylaws.

Office log

File consists of the Union Organizer's handwritten office log, dated November 3rd, 1975 to November 17, 1976. The log documents the Organizer's duties and activities, including general administration and organization, phone calls, speaking to members, preparing reports, compiling arbitration cases, office renovation, peparing for membership meetings, writing newsletter articles, recordkeeping, and constructing an office manual.

File also contains correspondence, a Civil Engineering Department list, administrative instructions, reports written by the Organizer, meeting notes, committee membership lists and terms of reference, an executive membership list, and a library loan list.

File also contains "Strike Progress" material, documenting AUCE's strike activity and administration in December 1975. Records include activity logs, an official brief to UBC's Board of Governors, executive meeting minutes, a transcript of a meeting between AUCE and the BC Federation of Labour, and correspondence.

Treasurer's files

File contains records of the union office treasurer, dated June 20, 1978 to November 20, 1979. Documents include material concerning a 1979 office reorganization. Topics discussed include administrative restructuring, dues restructuring, subsequent by-law amendments, and union income. File also contains correspondence and invoices regarding payments to AUCE Provincial, legal arbitration, employee benefits, office rental, pest control, and union dues. File also contains the following miscellaneous documents: an account log photocopy, agenda and minutes of membership meetings, financial statements, and Local 1 by-laws. Local 1 Executive minutes (2 of 2)

File contains meeting minutes dated January 6, 1976 to December 7, 1976. Topics discussed include the strike and strike committee report, disciplinary actions against scabs, correspondence, anti-inflation legislation, interactions with other unions (CUPE, SORWUC, HEU, the Vancouver Taxi Union), contracts, staffing, role of executive members, bylaws and amendments in regards to discipline, grievances and arbitration, information on Pentacare daycare centre, housing at UBC, the strike at Vancouver General Hospital (VGH), maternity leave, and banning smoking during executive meetings. File also contains several agendas, committee documents and recommendations, as well as a memo.

[Notebooks of provincial executive minutes]

File contains four notebooks of Melody Rudd, member of Executive Committee. Four handwritten exercise books (notebooks) containing notes on union activities in the form of phone numbers, addresses, to-do lists, lists of supplies, calculations, financial information, scheduling, drafts of correspondence, questions, information about the newsletter, and the activities of Locals 1-6. One of the notebooks appears to have been used for class or personal notes as it mostly contains psychology and mental health information with a section on union and strike activities at the end.

File contains meeting minutes dated January 15, 1977 to August 20, 1977. Topics discussed include Local reports, correspondence, convention planning and resolutions, financial and committee information, negotiations and arbitration, maternity leave issues, purchasing office supplies, interactions with other unions (SORWUC, BCGEU, CLC), strikes, and constitutional amendments. File also contains the minutes of the 1977 Annual AUCE Convention.

Provincial Executive minutes (2 of 2)

File contains meeting minutes dated August 16, 1980 to December 13, 1980. Topics discussed include office business and meeting structure, reports from Locals, correspondence, financial statements, loans, undertaking an AUCE history project, the convention and referendum, "Regina vs. Pappajohn" Supreme Court Decision, the affiliation question, protesting the Ku Klux Klan, grievances, strikes, committee reports, and per capita taxes. AUCE Sixth Annual Provincial Convention

The agenda includes rules of order, business arising from the 5th Annual Convention, the provincial executive report, local reports from Locals 1 to 6, a resolution to affiliate with the Canadian Labour Congress, constitutional amendments, the presentation of a National Union of Students policy paper entitled "Education - A System in Chaos" (March 1979), and emergency resolutions and amendments.
