Biographical history
Kurt Hutterli was born on August 18, 1944, in Bern, Switzerland. He studied at the University of Bern to become a secondary school teacher. Beside being a teacher in Bern, Hutterli was working as an author and artist, with his first novel published in 1959.
Hutterli and his wife immigrated to Canada, Okanagan, British Columbia in 1996 and became Canadian citizens in 2000.
Hutterli continued to work as an artist and writer in British Columbia. He writes poetry, short stories, plays, radio-plays and novels while crafting sculptures and other works of art, which are featured in several exhibitions in Switzerland and Canada since 1984.
Custodial history
Donated by Kurt Hutterli in 2009 to the German Studies Department of the University of British Columbia. Transferred to Rare Books and Special Collections in September 2012. Further accruals:

Scope and content
Records, mainly in German, related to the writing and artistic career of Kurt Hutterli. Arranged and classified by Kurt Hutterli. The records span from correspondence with publishers, friends and fans about book-projects to notes and manuscripts from various stages of Hutterli's writings. In addition, the fonds contains notes, and materials relating to Hutterli's art-work. The fonds also contains personal records related to family matters and friends as well as Hutterli's job as teacher in Bern.
