Political Correspondence

Subseries consists of correspondence with other MLAs and MPs during Manson's time in government. This correspondence is both with British Columbia politicians as well as with those in Ottawa, and includes correspondence with well-known political figures such as William Lyon Mackenzie King and Duff Pattullo.

Manson grouped many of these files under headings such as "Members," "Cabinet Members," "Cabinet Ministers," "Members of Parliament," and "Members of Provincial Parliament."

Cooking School Programs

Subseries consists of the planning documents for cooking school programs administered by Beatrice Millar in her capacity as an employee of B.C. Electric Home Service

Beatrice Millar Card Catalogue

Subseries consists of Beatrice Millar's index cards, originally in rolling indexes, and used in the course of her work at the B.C. Hydro Home Services Centre. Includes contact information for individuals and organizations, househould cleaning and laundry tips, food procurement and food preservation advice, and recipes.

Educational Colour Slides

These visuals consist of phototransparencies used in consumer education and home economics classes. They mostly depict appliances of the 1960s and 1970s, explain their functions and how to use them. The phototransparencies and the two program kits which are included in this series are a sampling of the materials made by B.C. Hydro to educate homemakers and home economics students. They are Bea Millar's own set and are all that are known to exist from the slide library. Approximately 60 of the images are of Bea, staff and Home Service Centre at B.C. Hydro.

Western Canada Tour Scrapbook

This scrapbook was initially included with the A.M. Pound papers. It was felt that since the scrapbook was about A.M. Stephen (compiled by him, and after his death, by his wife, Irene Stephen) it should be included with the Stephen papers. The scrapbook covers the time from 1928, when Stephen made his much publicized tours of Western Canada, to 1963, when Stephen's last edition of poems (compiled by his wife) was published. The scrapbook includes newspaper articles, book reviews, letters (mainly to Mrs. Stephen), and other assorted memorabilia. (Note written by Robert Gore.)

Estate

Subseries consists of records related to Manson's estate and date predominantly from after his death.

These records include a death certificate, an early will, and papers related to succession duties and probate.

Financial records

Sub-series consists of various financial ledgers and journals, voucher records, a stock ledger and stock certificates, as well as a few volumes pertaining to the Company's plant operations .

Miscellaneous Correspondence

Sub-series consists of miscellaneous incoming and outgoing correspondence, mainly of a business nature. Includes a few letters related to Doyle's position as General Manager of the British Columbia Packers Association. Title based on contents of sub-series.

Speeches and Writings by Doyle

Sub-series consists of speeches and other writings by Doyle concerning the history of the Pacific Coast salmon industry, British Columbia fishing industry licensing, legislation and regulation, the conservation of fish populations, salmon canning, and canning industry management. Includes also a summary of the ownership of some British Columbia canneries and processing plants, including Namu, Mill Bay, and Kimsquit, 1914-1930. Title based on contents of sub-series.

Speeches and Writings by Others

Sub-series consists of reports, addresses, and other writings relating to British Columbia fisheries, including material pertaining to the conservation and propagation of the salmon population, and to industry organization, production and regulation. Includes a circa 1942 prospectus of a proposed Fishermen's Cooperative Packing Company in British Columbia.

Law Societies & Bar Associations

Subseries consists of records related to Manson's participation in law societies and bar associations in Canada and British Columbia. These records date from after he became a judge.

These records include meeting minutes, memoranda, memorabilia, and correspondence.

Liberal Party

Subseries consists of records related to the Liberal Party of Canada and, in particular, the Liberal Party of British Columbia. The majority of the records in this subseries date from Manson's time as an MLA.

These records include early Liberal publications such as the "Canadian Liberal Monthly" and, predominantly, correspondence between Manson and Liberal Associations across British Columbia. Manson grouped many of these files under the headings "Liberal Associations" or "Liberal Ass’n."

Correspondence of Leo Nimsick, MLA for Kootenay, 1972-1973

The records in this subseries largely consist of copies of letters sent to Nimsick from his constituents and some routine correspondence sent to various provincial government departments. Minutes from the 1972 Land Use Committee Meeting of Cabinet are also in the series.

Subject files

The subseries chiefly consists of ministerial records, but also contains personal and political papers in which files are mainly organized alphabetically by subject and roughly arranged in chronological order. Two sets of "General" alphabetic files were created for 1973-74 and 1975, in which other material was filed by name of correspondent or sometimes geographic location or subject.

The records consists of correspondence and memoranda, telegrams, reports and briefs, agreements, transcripts, orders and bills, speeches, news releases, newsletters and circulars, newsclippings, notes, photographs, receipts, invitations and schedules. A number of files are associated with the British Columbia Railway, including agendas and minutes of the Board of Directors (1972-75) and 'Mini Board' (1973-74), annual and monthly reports, and a set of union contracts. These files appear to have been received from another source and integrated into the filing systems.

Additionally, a group of files under the head 'Political' contains material predating Lauk's appointment as Minister and pertains to issues situated in the riding of Vancouver Centre.

General government files

The subseries consists of records pertaining to Lauk's personal files as an MLA. These records include papers, private members bills, and newspaper articles he wrote, as well as his research files relating to those papers. Other records include records pertaining to various committees Lauk was a member of during his time as an MLA from 1976-1985. The photographs contained in this subseries mainly consist of Lauk's official portraits for the NDP party. There are also some photos of a dinner party that Lauk attended.

Subject files

Many of the records kept by the Executive Assistants consist of briefs or reports sent to Lauk, which were acknowledged and kept for reference but not acted upon. Other records include economic development reports collected by Eric Green, as well as a collection of volumes relating to the BC Government's Economic Mission to Japan in April 1974. The records include agendas and minutes, newsletters, newsclippings, news releases, speeches, notes, lists, invitations, copies of legislation, transcripts, schedules, photographs, and briefing books.

In addition, there is also a set of records called 'Steel Industry' which includes correspondence with a number of international steel manufacturers, as well as departmental studies, pursuant to engaging in a feasibility study.

Education Critic

This subseries contains records pertaining to Lauk's role as the Education Critic from 1976-1982. The records largely pertain to the issues relating to the education sector in British Columbia during that time period. The records include correspondence addressed to and written by Lauk, memos, briefs, reports, news releases and clippings, and articles and research notes written or collected by Lauk.

Correspondence

The subseries contains copies of correspondence addressed to or written by Lauk to his constituents, other MLAs, or the public in general. These letters largely address various issues faced by Lauk's constituents in Vancouver, or issues pertaining to the public of British Columbia at large.

Memorabilia

Series consists of items relating to Carr’s activities and work.
