The fonds consists of material related to Emerson's career in radio and to his involvement in Canadian (Vancouver) radio and musical theatre, principally during the 1950s and early 1960s. It includes scripts and notes for various radio programs which Emerson hosted and in which he was involved. The fonds also includes musical scores, programmes, manuscripts, and lyrics from his musical theatre work; newspaper and magazine clippings of reviews and articles making mention of Emerson and his acquaintances; and miscellaneous non-textual materials including a photograph and two 45 rpm audio discs.

Musical theatre files.

Series consists of documents pertaining to musicals that John Emerson participated in. Files include musical scores, scripts, programs, short stories, letters and other materials related to the production of musicals.

Newspaper clippings.

Series consists of newspaper and magazine clippings, many of which pertain to John Emerson, his productions, or acquaintances. The series also contains two theatre programmes.

Non-textual materials.

Series consists of one black and white photograph of a group in the Vancouver Mayor’s office, inscribed to Emerson, and two audio discs recordings of “Vancouver” by Tommy Ryan.

Radio program scripts and notes.

Series consists of scripts and notes for radio programs hosted by John Emerson, arranged by program title where given. Series also includes unfinished or incomplete scripts, scripts for half-hour radio plays, script gags, and notes pertaining to broadcast suggestions.
