The fonds consists of subject files, office files, printed material, videos, photographs, and slides relating to home economic topics such as cooking and kitchen and laundry planning presented by Beatrice Millar on behalf of the British Columbia Hydro Home Service Centre. Photographs consist of slides used in the BC Hydro home economics program, publication production photographs, as well as photographs of BC Hydro and Beatrice Millar in a television studio.

Subseries consists of the planning documents for cooking school programs administered by Beatrice Millar in her capacity as an employee of B.C. Electric Home Service

Educational Colour Slides

These visuals consist of phototransparencies used in consumer education and home economics classes. They mostly depict appliances of the 1960s and 1970s, explain their functions and how to use them. The phototransparencies and the two program kits which are included in this series are a sampling of the materials made by B.C. Hydro to educate homemakers and home economics students. They are Bea Millar's own set and are all that are known to exist from the slide library. Approximately 60 of the images are of Bea, staff and Home Service Centre at B.C. Hydro.

Home Service History

File consists of compiled historical retrospective, the text of a speech by A.R. Kluckner on "The Unwritten Responsibilities of Your Job," delivered to the Home Service Workshop (Vancouver ,1957), personal data form from Beatrice Millar's B.C. Electric Personnel file, and collected clippings and tearsheets.

[Kitchen Planning - Plans]

File consists of 23 visualizations of kitchen planning, including floor maps, placement of appliances, and placement of cabinetry. 5 are hand-drawn in pencil by Beatrice Millar (with explanatory annotations) and 18 are machine produced, and variously attributed to the National Institute of Wood Kitchen Cabinets (6 sheets), RCA Whirlpool (12 sheets).

Kitchen Planning History Slides

File consists of 22 b&w prints depicting the changes in kitchen design trends from about the 1930s to 1960s (estimated). Also included is one typewritten page with a partial descriptive inventory of the prints.
