[News clippings 1976]

File contains news clippings of The Ubyssey, UBC reports, and University Endowment Lands (U.E.L.) special planning project, dated January 8, 1976 to January 13, 1976. Topics discussed include AUCE interactions with UBC, contracts, wage rollbacks, mediation, faculty crossing picket lines, and university endowment lands. Also included is the Engineer's Week undergraduate publication, The Red Rag, which the A.U.C.E. protested for its sexist content.

[Notebooks of provincial executive minutes]

File contains four notebooks of Melody Rudd, member of Executive Committee. Four handwritten exercise books (notebooks) containing notes on union activities in the form of phone numbers, addresses, to-do lists, lists of supplies, calculations, financial information, scheduling, drafts of correspondence, questions, information about the newsletter, and the activities of Locals 1-6. One of the notebooks appears to have been used for class or personal notes as it mostly contains psychology and mental health information with a section on union and strike activities at the end.

File contains union steward materials, dated October 4, 1977 to October 16, 1977. Topics discussed include duties and responsibilities, handling a grievance, dealing with supervisors, closing comments, Local grievance meetings, copies of minutes, tips for stewards, grievance information, rights of stewards, arbitration, information and agendas for stewards seminars, and brief histories of AUCE and SORWUC. File also contains a audio cassette entitled "The Steward".

File contains a bound 1976-77 strike committee report and other records dated August 13, 1976 to March 7, 1977. Topics discussed include contract negotiations, "absence from work" issue, job evaluation and classification, publicity and communication, interactions with other unions and organizations, preparing for strike, summary of activities, and recommendations. File also contains several brochures, bulletins, flyers, newsletters, an issue of the Ubyssey (UBC student newspaper), and correspondence.

File contains meeting minutes from the annual convention dated May 27-28, 1978. Topics discussed include finances and budgets, reports from Locals and committees, solidarity with other unions, loaning SORWUC $10,000, and resolutions and amendments. File also contains handwritten notes and blank sheets of paper as well as a transcript from the convention discussing potential affiliation with CUPE, contracts, wages, and student employment.

Lester Winston McLennan fonds

The papers consist of McLennan's reminiscences of his Fairview days and life as a Rhodes scholar. Also included is a series of correspondence dating from 1924 to 1976. The correspondence has been arranged in two ways. The general correspondence has been simply arranged chronologically while other letters and cards, which McLennan sent to the Archives as identified groups, have been maintained as such. The papers also include printed material from the Canadian Association of Rhodes Scholars and Balliol College.

Strike pay

File contains outgoing and incoming correspondence regarding 1978 strike pay, a list of cheques released to signatories, and statements of earnings. Correspondence includes memoranda to Local 1's union office authorizing release of strike pay cheques to third parties. File also includes Local 2's Annual Report 1978/9 Supplement. Topics discussed include maternity benefits, strike action, negotiations with Simon Fraser University, and committee reports.

File contains records of the union office treasurer, dated June 20, 1978 to November 20, 1979. Documents include material concerning a 1979 office reorganization. Topics discussed include administrative restructuring, dues restructuring, subsequent by-law amendments, and union income. File also contains correspondence and invoices regarding payments to AUCE Provincial, legal arbitration, employee benefits, office rental, pest control, and union dues. File contains Emergency Resolutions and amendments from the annual convention dated June 2, 1979. Topics discussed include solidarity with Quebec, membership, committees, duties of the provincial executive, conventions, post-secondary education, unemployment and cutbacks, opposing Bill C-22, supporting the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) and the SFU 18, student employment, and the newsletter. [Shop steward handbook and Travel Club newsletter]

File contains an AUCE/SORWUC shop steward handbook and AUCE travel club leaflets. Topics discussed in the handbook include rights and responsibilities of stewards, leaves from work, how to process grievances, arbitration, definitions, and a sample grievance form. Topics discussed in the newsletters include detailed information on tours and travel packages to Las Vegas, Mexico, Alaska, Europe, etc.

Sixth Annual Provincial Convention (1 of 6)

File contains meeting minutes and rules of order from the annual convention dated June 2-3, 1979. Topics discussed include amendments and resolutions, financial report and expenses, Local reports, support for the SFU 18, student employment, interactions with SORWUC, the newsletter, potential affiliation with the CLC, nominations, interest in changing the name of the organization (AUCE) to the University and College Employees Union (UCEU), student employment, and opposing Bill C-22 and Bill C-14. File also contains a piece of scrap paper with an AUCE embossed stamp.

File contains a draft version of the sixth annual convention docket dated June 2-3, 1979. File contains Local reports and a paper presented by the National Union of Students included in the sixth annual convention docket dated May 1979 to June 2-3, 1979. Records include draft and final versions of Local reports, correspondence and criticism related to Local 4 (Capilano), information on the SFU 18 and the history of Local 3 (NDU), and the National Union of Students policy paper from March 1979 entitled "Education: A system in chaos".

AUCE Special Convention on Affiliation

File contains the agenda and associated material of the April 1980 AUCE Provincial Special Convention on Affiliation. Proposed affiliations include BCGEU, CCU, CLC, CUPE, OTEU, SORWUC, and UFAWU. File also contains a voting card, an identification pin, draft ballots on amendment proposals and emergency resolutions, rules of order, the minutes of the 6th Annual AUCE Provincial Convention (June 1979), the April 1980 AUCE Affiliation Committee Report, and proposed resolutions.

File also contains reports and transcripts of meetings between the AUCE Provincial Affiliation Committee and proposed affiliations: BCGEU (December 4, 1979), CCU (February 8, 1980), CLC (September 14, 1979), CUPE (December 11, 1979), OTEU (January 17, 1980), SORWUC (March 10, 1980), and UFAWU (March 15, 1980).

File contains Provincial Executive meeting minutes dated January 17, 1981 to July 17, 1981. Topics discussed include a protest of cutbacks at tuition fees at Capilano College, correspondence, reports of officers and representatives, reports of Locals, the affiliation referendum, the annual convention, financial statements, office business and hiring, bylaw and constitutional amendments, strikes, grievances, "Ban the Klan" demonstration, Local 5 affiliation with the CCU and related disciplinary charges. File also contains one half-filled spiral bound stenographer's notebook with handwritten notes on AUCE business.

File contains bulletins, versions of a collective agreement, and news releases dated January 14, 1980 to April 11, 1980. [Provincial Bargaining Strategies conference records]

File contains materials relating to the Association of University and College Employees' Bargaining Strategies Conference, held February 5-7th, 1982, as well as several articles and copies of legislation.
