The IABC fonds reflects the community collecting practices that the IABC undertook to preserve the history of Icelanders in British Columbia. Fonds is arranged in eight subfonds that reflect the various community organizations from which the archives originally collected.

Fonds documents the IABC’s commitment to preserving the lived experiences of its Icelandic community and is arranged into seven series that correspond to the IABC’s activities: administration and operation; providing educational programs and collecting biographies as well as written and oral histories; collecting Icelandic music; compiling a collection of Icelandic newspapers and publications; holding exhibits and events; acquiring photographic collections; and lastly acquiring collections of textual records, ephemera, and artifacts from its community.

Fonds also contains eight other subfonds of textual, photographic, audiovisual, and ephemeral material of Vancouver-based Icelandic Societies including the Sólskin Society, the Icelandic Canadian Club of British Columbia (ICC of BC), the Icelandic National League of North America (INL of NA), Icelandic Care Home Höfn Society, the Scandinavian Cultural Society (SCS), Ströndin Internet Radio, the Danish Archives, and the Icelandic Lutheran Church.

Fonds consists of material that reflects Charles van Sandwyk's development as an artist, illustrator and publisher of fine books in Vancouver. Materials include original artwork (watercolours, etchings), exhibition posters, book and book signing announcements, press proofs, broadsides, invitations, edition of the High Branch Society mail-outs (which include letters, cards, decorative envelopes, poems, and small copies of art), fabric banners, and medallions. Most of the items are signed by Charles. Some of these materials were brought together by Charles and the Joyce Williams Gallery; the arrangement of that material as it arrived has been maintained. Other materials were purchased from the creator and maintain the original order at the time of their acquisition.

The fonds consists of administrative files including operating and project grants; correspondence; artist and project files relating to events, productions and exhibitions; and promotional and publicity materials. Some files include photographs and drawings.

The fonds have been arranged into nine series: general programming, administrative, exhibitions, Front Magazine, Luminous Sites, media arts and video program, new music, performance art, and publicity and promotional materials. As much as possible, the files are arranged as they were by the original curators and program administrators. Early records (1973-1983) for all the programs are grouped together. Video program files were separated starting in 1976 when the program began. Following 1983, the programs each had individual curators.

Jean Coulthard fonds

The fonds consists of Coulthard's incoming family and general correspondence, correspondence from noted English composer Elizabeth Poston, financial records, biographical information, printed material and clippings documenting her involvement in the Canadian and International music communities as an advocate, educator and composer. Also included are original manuscripts of Coulthard's compositions and published and unpublished sound recordings of her work performances. The fonds also contain scrapbooks assembled by Coulthard's mother, Jean Robinson Coulthard, between 1898 and 1929, family photographs, and a photograph album compiled by her father, Dr. Walter Coulthard, depicting the Rossland area (ca. 1902).
Fonds are arranged into two sous-fonds: Jean Coulthard sous-fonds and Coulthard family sous-fonds. Fonds consists of textual records generated throughout Dr. Miller's career with the Department of English. They document his involvement in Departmental affairs and include correspondence with students and other faculty; Departmental memos and newsletters, teaching notes; and committee minutes. The records also illustrate some of his interests and activities outside the Department, including the Faculty of Arts Committee on Student Life; President's Committees on University Lectures, and Spiritual Life; the UBC Anglican-United Campus Ministry, and the Co-operative Christian Campus Ministry; the Humanities Association of Canada; and the Association of Canadian University Teachers of English.
The files are arranged in three series, representing Dr. Miller's spheres of activity: Department of English, University Affairs, and Outside Interests. Some files' contents overlap, particularly those dealing with the lecture committees and those labelled "English Department" and "Departmental Records" - however, the files and their contents were retained in their original order.

The fonds consists primarily of records relating to two specific areas of Larry Wong’s life – his writing and his interest in Chinese-Canadian History. Wong’s writings date as far back as his university days through to the publication of his book Dim Sum Stories: A Chinatown Childhood in 2011. Records reflect Wong’s time as the Director of the Chinese Canadian Military Museum Society and as a tour guide through Vancouver’s Chinatown. The fonds also includes personal documents and ephemera, including information relating to the immigration of both of his parents from China.

The fonds is divided into three series: Writings, Chinese-Canadian History and Personal documents and ephemera. The fonds consists of photographs and textual records spanning the period 1710-1984, predominantly 1850-1940, related to business and personal lives of five generations of the McLennan family (immediate and extended), as well as to the work of Montreal lawyer, Frederick Griffin. McLennan family materials consist of photographs; incoming and outgoing correspondence; genealogical information and family histories; diaries and remembrances; newspaper clippings and ephemera; official documents; obituaries and tributes; drafts of writings, research notes, and sketches; and other documents.

The McLennan family materials includes a series reflecting William McLennan’s writing career, personal interests, and family life. William McLennan’s materials include full and partial drafts of published and unpublished works; research and reference materials; incoming and outgoing correspondence; legal and official documents; collected historical materials and documents; notes; sketches; journals; newspaper clippings and ephemera; photographs; and other materials.

The fonds also consists of a series reflecting Frederick Griffin’s occupation as a lawyer and his role as founder of the Canadian Loan Company. Frederick Griffin’s materials include incoming correspondence and draft responses; various financial and legal documents; legal research notes and drafts of legal documents; memoranda; meeting minutes; land and property documents and surveyors reports; newspaper clippings and ephemera; and other documents.

Finally, the fonds contains a series consisting of William Durie McLennan’s records, which were primarily created between 1914 and 1915 and pertain to his military service during the First World War. Record types in this series include the following: a handwritten, personal notebook; a typescript of this notebook; correspondence; service records from the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Forces; news clippings; black and white photographs; collected signatures from Canadian dignitaries; and materials from the 5th Battery Association of 1914.

The fonds also includes business and personal correspondence, as well as financial records pertaining to the sale of artwork, Lansdowne’s services as a commercial painter, and his business relationship with M.F. Feheley Arts Company Limited and TDF Artists Limited. Records also include biographical information, awards and ephemera, along with publications containing his work, and newspaper clippings about his work and career. Photographs depict family and friends, Lansdowne at work, as well as publicity photographs.

Fonds contains materials arising from Anna Banana’s activities in the Mail Art network, her collecting of published materials and artworks, her performance art, exhibitions of her work and others, promotion of her activities, the production of various publications including VILE magazine, and the creation of visual art including artist trading cards, artistamps, collage, drawings and paintings. Materials were created in Victoria and Vancouver from 1964-1973, San Francisco from 1973 to 1982, Vancouver from 1982 to 1995 and the Sunshine Coast from 1995 to 2020, as well as on various tours and travels throughout this whole period. The fonds also contains many of Evans' diaries, journals, notebooks and sketchbooks which provide valuable insights into the author's personality. His extensive business and personal correspondence includes letters to and from Margaret Laurence, Silver Donald Cameron and Grace MacInnis, as well as many readers and publishing houses. The fonds also includes audio and video recordings of interviews, poetry, stories and novels used by Hubert Evans when his eyesight began to fail. Finally, the fonds contains the papers of Evans' wife Ann (Anna) Winter Evans, which consists of stories and articles.

The collection includes five hundred letters from Scott to Alice Boyd, and a large number of letters to Scott and Boyd from other artists and writers. Also in the collection are the letters from Arthur Hughes and letters concerning the 1872 illness of Dante Gabriel Rossetti. The collection also includes the diaries of W.B. Scott, Alice Boyd and Margaret Courtenay.

The fonds consists of correspondence, diaries, log books, manuscripts, photographs, records books, gallery files, subject files, and printed material relating to Onleys career as an artist, including a record of work, sales, donations, and disputes with Revenue Canada about the taxation of visual artists. A sketchbook entitled "LEternite Cest De Trouver De Que Tu As Deja" combines the poetry of Claude Peloquin with 51 watercolours by Onley relating to his Arctic voyages.

Stuart Keate fonds

These papers consist of 5 metres of Stuart Keate's personal papers which he kept in files at the office or at home. They span the years 1918(?) to his death in 1987. The bulk of the collection dates from 1943 to 1987. The majority of the records are textual records. Other media include 268 photographs, one negative and 14 tape recordings.
The papers cover four main areas of interest. Firstly, they provide background information on policy and editorial decisions made by Keate, his superiors and his staff when he was publisher at the Vancouver Sun, the Victoria Daily Province and Bureau Chief for Time Magazine in Montreal.
Information concerning publishing and editorial decisions can be found in those files of memos and correspondence between Keate and Bruce Hutchison, Max Bell, R .A . Malone, G .N .M . Currie, F .P . Pulbications Limited and Allan Fotheringham and a few other members of The Vancouver Sun staff. These will mainly be found in the Victoria Daily Times and The Vancouver Sun files. There are also some files in Keate's home files. Files of letters and ideas for his book, Paper Boy, which was published in 1980, provide further information on policy and editorial positions as well as much information on newspaper magnate Max Bell about whom he wanted one day to write a book.
Secondly, these papers provide an insight into Keate's wide range of interests, activities and involvement in the community and public affairs particularly in the 1960s and 1970s. There are copies of over 150 speeches written by Keate. There are a series of notes, letters and a report he prepared for the federal government as a neutral mediator in 1966 dealing with the CBC's handling of personnel of the program, "This Hour Has Seven Days." Numerous correspondence files with service, recreational and community groups as well as scrapbooks, tape recordings and photographs of sportsmen and political figures furnish a picture of a man keenly interested in his city, province, and country.
Thirdly, the files cover his experiences as an information officer for the Department of National Defence - Naval Service during the second World War. They consist of correspondence with his wife, with the Department of National Defense Naval Office and a diary written while on board the ship the HMSS Uganda in 1945.
Fourthly, they show Keate, the author, at work. There are a number of drafts as well as correspondence relating to his book, Paper Boy. Various manuscripts in the collection also document his writing activities.

Much of the fonds relates to sport fishing in British Columbia and, more broadly, to the conservation of natural resources. Fonds includes manuscript and printed maps with annotations pertaining to B.C. fisheries and the topography of B.C.

The fonds consists of 44 separate archival series most of which are based on specific production titles. For each title there is a digital master copy of the program(s). Each production includes a set of video and audio elements, the bulk of which are original shoot tapes. In addition there is also corresponding textual material that helps provide context and background for the development of the various projects. The textual and a/v materials have been described in separate sections of the inventory. For both sets of material the numbers assigned during the original cataloguing and creation of the database have been retained and appear in square brackets [ ] as part of the descriptions to allow for cross referencing as necessary.
First donation: This donation is Paperny Film's first to an archival repository and it represents 27 of the company's indigenous proprietary titles (1996-2004) of their approximately 55 non-fiction productions (1996-2007). The collection is comprehensive in that it offers digital master copies of each of the title/series included in this donation. There are 62 original masters that include over 50 hours of recordings. There is also a DVD copy of each of the master tapes to provide easy access to the information.
The collection features over 1900 a/v elements arising from some 27 separate productions. The scope of material includes: BetacamSP, MiniDV, Digial Betacam, DVD, VHS, CDs and digital audio tapes. The majority of the collection consists of original shoot tapes. There are over 1,000 hours of video recordings featuring prominent Canadian including Mortecai Richler, Henry Morgentaler, Jimmy Pattison, and Nancy Green.
In addition to the obvious importance of providing access to full interview interviews with and about prominent Canadians, the a/v elements are also quite instructive in helping communicate an understanding of the creative process that gave rise to particular productions.
The textual material extents to approximately 5.15 metres and also includes over 13,000 photographic images. The images document the various production shoots and, in some cases, include copies of historical photographs/documents that were used in the productions.
Examples of the types of records included with the textual material include: treatments, outlines, synopses, proposals; collected research materials; correspondence relating to development, production, publicity; original interview notes and transcripts, interview schedules; scripts (and drafts), storyboards; production schedules, production reports and daily call sheets; publicity stills, negatives, transparencies and digital photographs; marketing plans, publicity packages, one-sheets, press releases and coverage; transcripts of completed shows; EDL's (edited decision list), assembly notes, tape logs; credit rolls, final credits and super lists.
Of particular interest in the textual material are a set of handwritten notebooks created by David Paperny, Audrey Mehler and others. Seventeen in total, these notebooks are in Box 1 (3,4,5,6,11,12,13,14,15); Box 4 (3,8); Box 6 (17); Box 11 (23a); and Box 12 (8).
Second donation: The second donation from Paperny Film's represents 15 of the productions (1993-2006) including the Academy Award nominated The Broadcast Tapes of Dr. Peter. The collection offers digital master copies of each of the title/series included in this donation. There are 183 original masters and a DVD copy of each to provide easy access to the
information.
The collection features over 1200 AV elements arising from 15 separate productions, some of which have several seasons associated with them. The scope of material includes: BetacamSP, MiniDV, Digital Betacam, DVC Pro, DVCAM, Betacam SX, DVD, VHS, CDs and digital audio tapes. The majority of the collection consists of original shoot tapes.
There are roughly 75 cm of textual material in the newest accession.

Fonds consists of textual and audiovisual material relating to the production of the movie "Manufacturing Consent: Noam Chomsky and the Media", released in 1992, and the companion book by Mark Achbar published in 1994. The filmmakers chose to capture
the majority of their work on film, rather than video, for several reasons. Firstly, during the 1980’s, video resolution was significantly lower than film negative and in an effort to ensure the image resolution was high film was chosen as the predominant medium.
As well, the NFB (National Film Board) was equipped primarily for film shooting, processing and editing. Finally, the motivation to participate in film festivals, which wanted film rather than video, compelled the filmmakers to use film as their medium. Some small format video, captured using rented broadcast quality video gear, was used for long talks or events which would have been uneconomical to shoot in film. The audiovisual material includes original camera negatives, audio and video tapes and sound bites used as research material and in the making of the film as well as some post-production rough cuts, alternative versions and promotional material relating to the distribution of the film and subsequent video. The textual material includes pre and post-production materials as well as production logs and graphical materials. Much of the post-production material relates to the promotion of the film and the media coverage of the film and of Noam Chomsky.

The photographs consist mainly of images relating to Savary Island, Vancouver Island and other area of B.C.'s coast where Spilsbury lived and carried out his activities. The fonds is especially strong in areas related to book production and sales, including, contracts, royalty reports, correspondence with publishers, literary agents and designers, layout materials, manuscripts, sketches, drawings and paintings. In addition, the creator has gathered a number of clippings and reviews which document the critical reception of her work.

The fonds is divided into 31 series. 26 of these series, the majority of the materials in the fonds, have been arranged by the creator according to book title (including both published and unpublished works) and therein according to textual records and artwork. This arrangement has been maintained by the processor with each title constituting a separate series. The remaining five series discuss Blades' personal activities, and her professional activities which were not related to a single book.

Since at least 2006, the creator has for many files left annotations or descriptions, which have been kept with the records. The 2011 accrual was well-organized and carefully labelled by Blades before it was officially gifted to the University of British Columbia in 2011. As a result, all file names are based upon the titles devised by the creator. Within each file, Blades grouped related materials and indicated the subject of the grouping with a labelled paper wrapper which she folded around a collection of documents. These paper wrappers have been preserved. File contents have been retained in their original order.

Fonds documents several of Eva-Marie Kröller’s academic projects: her biography of British Columbia author George Bowering, Bright Circles of Colours (Talonbooks, 1992); essays on Roy Kiyooka and Emily Carr; her book Canadian Travellers in Europe, 1851-1900 (UBC Press, 1987); materials relating to her book Writing the Empire: The McIlwraiths, 1853-1948 (2021); an article entitled “Une femme bien en vue”: Adrienne Clarkson and the Media (2014); and an anthology of travel literature that she and historian Pierre Savard were planning, but which was not completed before Savard’s death in 1998 in addition to other various research materials. Also included are documents related to a workshop organized by SATE (Swiss Association of Teachers in English), and correspondence with Canadian authors. The materials consist of textual records (correspondence, notes, drafts, and readers’ reports), published materials, and a 3.5” computer floppy disk containing a digital manuscript of Bright Circles of Colours.
