The collection consists primarily of copies, and a small number of photographs, of cartoons commenting on legal, political, social and other matters impacting the relationship between Indigenous people and the settler state of Canada. The collection also includes some other graphical depictions of Indigenous people in settler Canadian media, such as product advertisements, tourism marketing, and depictions of Indigenous people in historical artworks and photographs.

The images were collated from a large number of publications; these are primarily Canadian publications, as well as some American, British, and Indigenous-authored publications. A list of Indigenous sources consulted by the collector is available for researcher reference.

Collection consists of 56 documents which mostly concern Frederic Schiller Lee’s capabilities as a fundraiser for the International Physiological Conference in the eastern United States in 1929. The majority of the collection is letters from prominent physiologists.

Collection consists of letters, newspaper clippings, and articles relating to Sir William Osler’s career and involvement with the Medical Library Association.

The Bush Family collection consists of records and objects gathered by various family members on specific holidays or during special occasions. George and Pearl Bush contributed memorabilia related to their family’s settlement in Vancouver, their vacations in Europe and the United States, the Canadian Pacific Railway Company, the city of Vancouver, the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, and the country of Canada. Some records and objects commemorating the Dominion of Canada and the Canadian Pacific Railway Company feature racist depictions of Indigenous peoples. Items originating with George and Pearl date from the early to mid-twentieth century.

Patrick Bush contributed memorabilia related to his studies at the University of British Columbia, particularly his graduation and his membership in the Sigma Epsilon chapter of the Zeta Psi fraternity. Records originating with Patrick Bush date from the mid to late 1950s.

Records are arranged by subject in files. For example, all memorabilia related to the Canadian Pacific Railway Company is aggregated, as are records of Patrick Bush’s university attendance. Documentary forms include invitations and programs to UBC fraternity events; UBC fraternity decals; UBC convocation programs; copies of Patrick Bush’s university transcripts; instructions for participating in a UBC convocation; various hand-drawn maps of the U.S.S.R., likely prepared by Patrick Bush for a university course; Patrick Bush’s Bachelor of Laws degree; a single issue of UBC Alumni Chronicle (1985); blank and handwritten postcards depicting the United States and Europe; commemorative ephemera celebrating the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, including a menu, church service order, and booklet; black and white family photographs; souvenir booklets containing photographs and illustrations of famous scenes in Europe and the United States; tickets for tourist attractions and transit in Europe; information booklets about tourist attractions and sites in Europe; maps for parts of Europe; menus from various cruise ships; Royal Automobile Club route cards; information booklets about Canada, the province of British Columbia, and the city of Vancouver; maps of various parts of British Columbia; a BC Emergency Air Service decal; a poster commemorating the Golden Jubilee of Vancouver (circa 1936); various correspondence addressed to George Bush, including postcards; travel ephemera from Patrick Bush; preliminary lists of electors, including Patrick Bush, as compiled by Elections Canada for the district of Vancouver Centre in 1979; black and white photographs and negatives depicting members of the extended Bush family; Canadian Pacific Railway company employee photographs, voyage programs and menus, sailing listings, promotional tour pamphlets and booklets, steamship passenger lists, log book abstracts, monogrammed envelopes, voyage guest feedback forms, staff bulletins, gazettes (newspapers), and ship deck plans; photocopies of various Vancouver and London, England newspapers featuring articles about members of the Bush family; a decorative leather wall hanging belonging to George Bush; a matchbox; and a coaster.

This collection consists of correspondence and published materials gathered by Betty Clarke Pearson about the last voyage of Empress of Canada that was sunk by an Italian submarine on March 14th, 1943. Betty's father, John St.Claire Clarke, was the chief officer of Empress of Canada at the time of the attack. He survived while nearly 400 others were lost. Betty gathered these documents which include newspaper clippings, photographs, correspondence, and a memorandum speech, reflecting stories of her father along with other survivors of the attack.

The Irving Guttman Collection is a large collection of photographs of different people and places in the opera world. There are two different parts of this photographic collection: The first part of the collection includes pictures of Mr. Guttman directing and coaching opera performers, or posing with opera enthusiasts from across the globe. A large bulk of these first photographs are of Mr. Guttman's production of the operas, Norma, Tosca, Traviatta, and Aida. However, other operas such as Madam Butterfly, Daughter of the Regiment, Othello, Carmen and more are included in the Collection.

The second part of the collection consists of autographed portraits of opera performers, and other operatic stakeholders. The list of operatic singers, conductors, composers and directors, includes but is not limited to: Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo, Leonard Bernstein, Joan Sutherland, Cristina Deutekom, Montserrat Caballé, John Alexander, Tracy Dahl, Marilyn Horne, Linda Roark-Strummer, Huguette Tourangeau, Renata Tebaldi, Clarice Carson, Regina Resnik, Mary Costa, Irene Salemka, Cecilia Bartoli, Judith Forst, Ermanno Mauro, and Sylvia Sass.

Lastly, there is a collection of congratulatory letters to Mr. Guttman for his 25th anniversary as artistic director of the Edmonton Opera.

The collection contains records related to Oscar Orr’s career in law, his professional and political affiliations, and records relating to his role as a prominent resident in the province of British Columbia. There are also historical records that Orr gathered as part of his collection. The collection consists of five series: British Columbia records; American records; Canadian provinces and politics records; Britain and Europe; and Books and miscellaneous records. The series contain correspondence, autographed clippings and notes, invitations and miscellaneous documents of prominent political individuals, businessmen, and royalty.
The series British Columbia records contains Orr’s correspondence with prominent and political members in British Columbia in the early to late 1900s. The series includes the autographs of BC political members as well as prominent BC court officials. Also includes a letter from Dan Cranmer of Alert Bay regarding a possible potlatch. The series American records contains documents and autographs of prominent US political, literary, and war figures. Records in this series date back to the 18th century and were part of the collection Orr gathered as part of his interest in history. The series Canadian provinces and politics records include early 19th century documents relating to the Canadian political landscape as well as Orr’s own correspondence with Canadian politicians and court officials. The series Britain and Europe contains records and autographs of British and European political, literary, and military figures, dating back to 1698. Books and miscellaneous records include books, newspapers, photographs and other records from Orr’s collection that relate to his interest in history.

The majority of the collection consists of over 200 pencil handwritten copies of Martha May Beardmore’s accounts of her work during the First World War in Serbia and Salonika. There are also notes on a presentation she attended, newspaper clippings, and fragmentary documents about the First World War. At the end of the collection is a covering letter from her husband, Harry Beardmore to the UBC librarian which gives some biographical information.

This collection includes correspondence, financial records, legal documents, and newspapers which reflect the history of Sanbornton, New Hampshire, and New England as a whole in the eighteenth, nineteenth, and early twentieth centuries. The collection consists of documents related to the activities of local individuals, including the appointment of Justice of the Peace John Tallant; invoices and receipts for Hugh Tallant, Sarah Tallant, William Blake, Samuel Wells, W.W. Sargent, Samuel Sargent, Theodore Cooke, J.W. Blodget, Seth W. Fowle, Lyman Washburn, Fred E. Thorpe, William Wallace, and Edward Farnum, among others, mainly dealing with the sale and purchase of farming equipment, land, and household supplies.
The collection also includes correspondence between siblings Elisabeth, George, Laura, Stephen, and Thomas Wiggin and Susan Wiggin Avery and Joshua Avery; Dorothy, Hannah, James, Laura, Lucy, and Marinda Bean and Betsey Davis; Betsey Osgood and John Osgood; and between Laura Bean and Susan Wiggin.

RBSC's holdings of the Korean Canadian Heritage Archive consist of UBC's General Collection, which was one of the two sub-collections of UBC's portion of the KCHA. The creators of this collection divided the collection into nine series based on the physical formats of the materials. The series are as follows: Ephemera, Books, Grey Literature, Multimedia, Correspondence, Manuscripts, Newspaper Clippings, Serials, and Personal Documents.

The Tiananmen Square incident, also called June Fourth incident or 6/4, was a culmination of a series of protests and demonstrations in China in the spring of 1989 that culminated on the night of June 3–4 with a government crackdown on the demonstrators in Tiananmen Square in Beijing. Although the demonstrations and their subsequent repression occurred in cities throughout the country, the events in Beijing—and especially in Tiananmen Square, historically linked to such other protests as the May Fourth Movement (1919)—came to symbolize the entire incident.

(Translation: A brief history from April to June
On April 15, 1989, Yaobang Hu passed away. From April 15 to April 25, students and citizens of Beijing spontaneous mourned. On April 22, the memorial service held for Yaobang Hu, three students kneeled in protest outside the Great Hall of the People. On April 26, the People’s Daily editorial described the student effort as “turmoil”. On April 27, near one million people held demonstrations. The demonstrations continues on May 4. From May 5 to May 12, the streets are calm. On May 13th, hundreds of students from Peking University, Renmin University of China and Tsinghua University conducted a hunger strike in Tiananmen Square. On May 15, Gorbachev visited China. On May 17, millions of people took on the streets to hold a solidarity parade. The solidarity continued until May 19th. On May 17 through 19, Media continually made the real reports. At 12:30 am on May 20, Peng Li announced the implementation of martial law
in parts of Beijing. After half a month, on June 3 rd , massacre occurred — the 6/3 tragedy.)

The collection consists of duplicate copies of Community Arts Council of Vancouver (CACV) records given to Melva Dwyer. The records are made up of two series. The first includes general material about the organization - Annual Reports (1953-1956, 1967), Special Projects (1955-1967) including reports of the Vancouver Festival Society, Council Briefs and records from the British Columbia Arts Resources Conferences (1957-1960). The second series comprises records specifically from the Civic Arts Committee of the Community Arts Council of Vancouver.

The collection consists of photocopied research notes pertaining to British Columbia salmon canneries, documents collected from the Department of Marine and Fisheries and a copy of an index to the microfilmed records of the Department of Fisheries.

The collection is an assemblage of movie memorabilia (predominantly Noir and Western), 20cm x 25cm film-stills, 28 cm x 36 cm lobby cards, and ephemera amassed by Thompson as a part of her research for her books Hard-Boiled and Tall in the Saddle. Collection consists of the annotated first draft of Roy’s biography of Sherwood Lett, copies of tributes to Lett published after his death in 1964, and correspondence.

Collection consists of Barbara Gibson’s correspondence, manuscript, notes, and a notebook. The bulk of the research materials also contains photocopies of letters, newspapers clippings, journals and books, as well as photographs relating to Sister Mary Gonzaga.

The collection consists of two catalogues (1927, 1935) of ethnological specimens presented by Frank Burnett to UBC and minutes of the University of British Columbia's President's Committee on the Musuem (1941-1944).

Most of this collection was assembled by William Tetlow of the UBC Office of Institutional Analysis and Planning, and consists of President MacDonald’s initial proposal to the Board of Governors and Senate as well as minutes and reports arising from the work of the Committee on Higher Education (1962/63). In addition, there are also copies of numerous briefs presented by community groups from throughout the province. Also included are copies of documents related to the Report, compiled by the President’s Office and sent to Simon Fraser University to help the SFU Archives document the origins of their university, and maintained as a potentially useful historical resource.

The collection consists of a series of interviews carried out by Michael Welton with various friends and colleagues of Watson Thomson as part of his dissertation research for "To Be and Build the Glorious World: The Educational Thought and Practice of Watson Thomson, 1899-1946" (1983).

Gathered by a former student and colleague, Charles F. Ripley, this research collection includes three series relating to Terzaghi including; biographical materials, publications and professional reports. The reports series includes information about the British Columbia projects with which Terzaghi was involved. The research collection also includes copies of publications by Ralph B. Peck and J.D. Mollard.

The collection consists of correspondence, reports, and newspaper clippings that document the creation and development of BCMC. The materials include photocopies of twenty-seven BCMC task force reports initially released in 1974, each of which addresses a specific aspect of health care in British Columbia. Also included are reports on proposals for the BCMC/Shaughnessy site, and related correspondence, clippings, and reports.

The collection consists of correspondence, photographs, newsletters, and other materials related to the UBC graduating class of 1935 and the various reunions and alumni activities associated with that class.

The collection consists of materials related to Aboriginal Peoples’ land claims and forestry practices in British Columbia and worldwide. Materials include correspondence, press clippings, publications, and reports.

Collection consists of letters from prominent scientists in various fields of study. Many of the letters in this collection are addressed to Dr. Chauncey D. Leake.

Some of the letters contain discussion of a scientific nature, while others contain pleasantries, invitations, and discussion of scientific publications for collecting purposes. Some of the notable correspondents include Sir Richard Owen, Sir Francis Galton, Joseph Dalton Hooker, William Jackson Hooker, Sir Frederick Grant Banting, Adam Sedgwick, and James Prescott Joule.

The collection reflects Stan Chester’s thirty-plus year career in the forestry industry, primarily with Canadian Forest Products (Canfor).

The collection consists primarily of maps created by Canadian Forest Products Ltd, as well as many of its logging divisions – Englewood Logging Division, Harrison Mills Division, Renfrew Division, Sooke Division, Spring Creek Division and West Coast Division. Geographic regions covered include primarily Vancouver Island (Rupert Land District) and the Lower Mainland of British Columbia (Chehalis Lake Dominion Railway Belt, Dominion Railway Belt, New Westminster Land District), but also the Central Coast, Northern British Columbia, the Okanagan, and Southwest British Columbia.

Maps were cruised by many different individuals and companies, but where the name of a cruiser is present on the maps it has been recorded in the file-level description. Of those with recorded cruisers, the majority of the maps have been cruised by Eustace Smith. Other cruisers with more than one map in the collection are Ray Smith, E. Mulock, Porteous & Porteous, and C. Davis.

Where present on the maps, cruise summaries indicate which species of trees are present, such as: fir, cedar, cottonwood, cypress, hemlock, balsam, pine, and spruce and can be searched using those terms.

Records include topographical maps, cruise maps, logging plans, logging camp maps, fire patrol maps, contour maps, road maps, history maps, blueprints of machinery or structures, technical drawings, architectural drawings, negatives, spreadsheets, transparencies and a hydrograph.

Collection consists of photographs collected by the Rare Books and Special Collections divisions throughout its operation. Subjects predominantly include British Columbia people, places and events, but also includes photographs taken throughout the Pacific Northwest, across Canada and in some cases internationally.

The Uno Langmann Family Collection of B.C. Photographs, donated by Uno and Dianne Langmann and Uno Langmann Limited, consists of more than 20,000 rare and unique early photographs from the 1850s to the 1970s. It is considered the premiere private collection of early provincial photos, and an important illustrated history of early photographic methods. The photographs were taken by a wide range of photographers. Some well-known photographers represented in the collection include William Notman, Charles MacMunn, Frederick Dally, Charles Horetzky, Charles Gentile, Philip Timms, Yucho Chow, R. Maynard, and Leonard Frank.

Collection consists of materials pertaining to Pre-Raphaelite artists Christina Rosetti, her brother Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Alice Boyd, and others associated with them, and include poetry broadsides, correspondence, photographs, personal papers (such as a notebook, an address book, and other textual records), and a framed silk embroidered panel. The contents of this collection were purchased from bookseller Edward Nudelman.

The collection illustrates Otto Cohnheim’s personal and professional life while he lived in Germany and Scotland. The personal material includes correspondence with or about family members while the professional material includes letters, laboratory notes, and papers to do with his physiological studies.

The majority of the collection relates to mining in the Sandon, B.C. community and surrounding areas. Documents relating to mining claims and claim disputes are prevalent. Other records include financial books and receipts, business and personal correspondence, newspaper clippings, other legal records and court rulings, leases, payroll records, numerous receipts and invoices and various corporate documents.
Each of Harris’ businesses, Hotel Reco, Reco Mining and Milling Company, Sandon Water Works and Light Company, Star Mining and Milling Company, Slocan Power Company, and Wonderful Mines are represented in this collection. In addition there are records from the British Columbia Mining Association and the Silver-Lead Miners Association of British Columbia.

The W.B. Bailey series and the Clarence Cunningham series are relatively small. The Cunningham records include only financial records ca. 1916 to 1919, and newspaper clippings from 1939. The Bailey records are a grouping of telegrams from 1901 to 1902 with a complete inventory of each supplied by Mr. Barlee.

Collection concerns the history of the College of Science, Dublin where William Fletcher Barrett worked from 1873 to 1910. Included in the collection are handwritten notes, letters, and a parliamentary report on the history of the college.

The collection contains two minute books from the British Columbia Anti-Tuberculosis Society.

The collection of papers of William Brenton Burnett consists mainly of autograph letters, typescripts of addresses, notebooks and documents. These relate to Dr. Burnett’s life as a student at Acadia University and at McGill University, and as a teacher and physician in Vancouver, British Columbia. The principal part of the collection deals with the early years of the period covered (1891-1964). A number of diplomas accompany these papers.

The Macintosh Collection was created by Sir Robert Reynolds Macintosh, a Nuffield Professor of Anesthetics at Oxford. The collection consists of the documents relating to the life and research of anesthetist Joseph Thomas Clover. In addition there are correspondence, research and notes written by Sir Robert Macintosh, which were collected during his research into the life of anesthetist John Snow. There are also notes and correspondence by Dr. K Bryn Thomas, a visiting medical historian and anesthetist who arranged, catalogued and annotated the collection in 1971. Throughout the collection, there are various notations, transcriptions and notes written by Dr. Thomas that occurred during his processing of the collection. The current arrangement of the collection is still largely the arrangement applied originally by Dr. Thomas.
The materials related to Joseph Thomas Clover spans the beginning of his career until the end of his life. They include obituaries and eulogies of his death (1882-83), and articles in magazines on Clover after his death (1913, 1928). There are photographs of Joseph Thomas Clover and his wife, Mary Ann Clover in various poses and a small, hand-drawn family tree of the Clover family. Clover’s observations, patient notes, hand-draw sketches of anatomy and apparatus and even some small books Clover used for financial recordkeeping, are present, some in small, bound volumes and others in loose pages. Clover’s original article of indenture (1841) and testimonials regarding his qualities as a doctor are also present. Correspondence within the collection include discussions on anesthesia, requests from patients and for apparatus, letters of condolences Mary Ann Clover after the death of Joseph Clover (1882) and letters to Clover’s daughter regarding her father’s legacy (1913). A small amount of the letters has been transcribed by K Bryn Thomas and present in the correspondence section. There is a small collection of cards bearing advice and quotations from Clover’s father, J.W. Clover, pertaining to weddings, finances, and life, as well as Clover’s own notes on God and life (1859-65). There are also several sheets of pressed flowers.
The second portion of the Joseph Thomas Clover collection was organized by subject matter by K Bryn Thomas. The sections are largely undated and cover Clover’s notes on ether, nitrous oxide and ether, chloroform, nitrous oxide, as well as a large amount of hand written notes covering various anesthetic subjects. Clover’s notes also discuss the deaths from chloroform and resuscitation. There are also hand-drawn illustrations of various apparatus inventions and experiments.
The third section of the collection contains the material collected by Sir Robert Macintosh during his research into anesthetist John Snow. This section contains biographical sketches by Sir Robert Macintosh, letters of correspondence between John Snow’s descendants and Sir Robert Macintosh, and a speech given regarding John Snow in 1955. There are a few correspondences regarding the gifting of Snow’s book <em>On Cholera</em>. A transcript of Snow’s article <em>On Asphyxia</em> is also contained in the collection. There are also copies, transcripts, and correspondence relating to Snow’s will, and his burial certificate. The remainder of the collection consist of items about John Snow, including correspondence to his descendants regarding his memorial tombstone, correspondence to his publishers regarding his books, and items written about John Snow himself.

Contains a sampling of municipal, provincial, and federal political literature from the Greater Vancouver Regional District and beyond. Most of the literature is related to election campaigns, but other material is included as well.

The collection consists of unique and rare materials related to Igor Stravinsky, first edition scores, programs, writings, articles, and newspaper clippings about Stravinsky, and photographs of the composer.

The collection spans the full range of years that the press was in operation and demonstrates the breadth of their letterpress work.

It contains a series with books such as artists’ books and chapbooks that were printed by the press and another that collects ephemeral material such as greeting cards and promotional material for businesses.

The fonds consists of newspaper issues, photographs, and publishing notes from 1988-2011 which provide a look into the day-to-day function of creating the newspaper.

The collection consists of two subcollections: 1) Daisy Clara Millar letters and 2) South Okanagan Irrigation Project ephemera.
