Directors meetings.

Sub-series contains meeting minutes from the British Columbia Loggers Association Directors committee. Materials consists of ledger books with meeting minutes pasted inside, which document the core functions and forestry, more specifically logging, related issues, their follow-up and consultation with other interested organizations. Also included are meeting minutes that discuss the Association’s finances, reports from various organizations including the Council of Forest Industries, and a discussion of topics including Timber Land Assessment procedures, stumpages, publicity, and forest fire protection.

Sub-series contains records relating to the British Columbia Loggers Association’s Financial Management Committee. Material consists of meeting minutes that discuss the organization’s financial statements, accounts payable vouchers, and balance sheets outline the Association’s surplus, liabilities and assets.

Timber Council Director’s meetings

Sub-series contains of Timber Council Director’s meeting minutes, which relate to the British Columbia Lumber Manufacturers Association. Materials consist of minutes that cover the expenditure for developing the market for B.C. wood products, the future of the council, the election of officers, financial statements, and the council’s reorganization.

Material consists of meeting minutes which include the history of the association, list of committees including the lumber, shingle, Sash and Door branches; legislation, railway rates, labour, logs and press committee, minutes of shareholders meeting for the organization, elections of offices and Board of Directors, amendments to acts such as the Bush Fires Act, discussion of arbitration for disputes in the industry, reports on new grading rule, shareholder certificate books which provides the number of shares owned by an individual, and information about the individual’s profession, location and company as shareholder.
Series also includes pictures of prominent members of lumber associations including J.A. Humbird, Gordon Gibson, A.D. Anderson, L.L.G. Bentley, L.R. Andrews, Tom Wilkinson, J.M. Edwards, W.J. van Dusen, Tom Burgess, H.V. Simpsons and Bill McMahon.

Sub-series contains meeting minutes relating to the Lumber Mills Branch meetings, a division of the British Columbia Lumber Manufacturers Association. Materials consists of minute books which document the meetings proceedings including issues such as lumber exports to the United States, market surveys, transportation rates, and reports from various sub-committees.

Trade Extension committee.

Series contains meeting minutes from the Trade Extension Committee of the British Columbia Lumber Manufacturers Association. Material consists of plans to implement lumber trade representatives in various countries throughout the world to represent Canada’s interest. Records also include details of the committee’s finances and budget, and progress reports from individual members.

Directors meetings.

Sub-series consist of Directors meetings minutes from the Consolidated Red Cedar and Shingle Association of British Columbia. Material contains four ledger books of meeting minutes documenting the committee’s decisions, and includes division reports, the organizations functions and activities, and daily business.

General meetings.

Material consists of meeting minutes, details concerning the grading of cedar logs, the incorporation of the association, new rules and procedures for committees, committee reports, the approval of meeting minutes, and reports on the auditing of the B.C. Loggers Association’s accounts.

Slogans for the Early Twenty-first Century placards

Series contains 12 artist’s proof placards of Coupland’s Slogans for the Twenty-First Century. Six sets of the slogans were created in early 2011, two of which are artist’s proofs.

The content of the slogans was developed to be featured on the Waldorf Hotel’s marquee in Vancouver as advertisement for the Coupland-McLuhan-YouTube event that occurred on May 26, 2011. Hosted by Douglas Coupland, the event consisted of an interactive presentation on Marshall McLuhan and YouTube. Posters were created out of the placard sets and wheat pasted throughout Vancouver.

Collages from book tours

Series contains 86 collages created during Coupland’s book tours from the 1990s to 2009. Collages were created in order to include a visual dimension to Coupland’s daily tour diary entries that were published to his website. Upon creation the collages were mailed to Vancouver, BC were they were then scanned and posted to Coupland’s blog with the accompanying 400-500 word entry.

Coupland describes the collages as embodying both high-tech and low-tech aspects of the early 2000s due to the nature of their creation, transportation and dissemination.

Subsequent exhibition of the collages featured floating the pieces in vitrines (glass paneled-display cabinets) with a ½ inch neutral background while nearby computers displayed the corresponding diary entries. Graphic moments from the collages were made into limited prints and sold at the show venues.

Income Tax & Charitable Gaming

Sub-series contains financial records related to tax returns and the society‟s status as a charitable organization including charitable receipts, income tax material, GST/HST returns, registered charity information returns, and applications for direct charitable access funding. Invoices, copies of outgoing cheques, bank statements and expense lists for the society‟s Gaming Account are included in this series.

Revenue & Expenditures

Sub-series consists of records related to the society‟s income and
expenses. Records related to account activity, including summaries of deposits/withdrawals and bank statements are included. Receipts, invoices, copies of outgoing and incoming cheques, controls cards, ledgers and written expenses are also included. Files containing information about business associates are predominantly correspondence, but also contain invoices and receipts.

Personal documents

Sub-series consists of a document appointing Belcher Commander of the HMSV Aetna in 1830 and a certificate granting Belcher an honourary membership in the Royal Halifax Yacht Club.

Journals

Sub-series consists of originals and copies of journals detailing Belcher’s travels during the period 1821-1827, including his travels in Britain in 1821 and as part of the crew of the HMS Blossom during the Beechey expedition, 1825-1827.

Order Book

Sub-series consists of an order book from the HMS Sulpher for the period April to August 1841.

Court documents

Sub-series consists of manuscripts written by Belcher in defence of charges laid against him with respect to his naval command. Includes an original and a transcript copy of a defence prepared by Belcher against charges of tyranny and severe treatment of his men during his service as Captain of the HMS Sulpher and related documents. Series also includes an original copy of a statement of defence written by Belcher when he was courtmartialled for abandoning ships under his command during the Franklin expedition in 1854.
