The fonds consists of textual records and artwork created by Ann Blades during the course of her career as an author and illustrator of Canadian children’s literature. The records date from circa 1967 to 2013, with particular concentration during the years immediately prior to the publication of Blades’ works. The fonds is especially strong in areas related to book production and sales, including, contracts, royalty reports, correspondence with publishers, literary agents and designers, layout materials, manuscripts, sketches, drawings and paintings. In addition, the creator has gathered a number of clippings and reviews which document the critical reception of her work.

The fonds is divided into 31 series. 26 of these series, the majority of the materials in the fonds, have been arranged by the creator according to book title (including both published and unpublished works) and therein according to textual records and artwork. This arrangement has been maintained by the processor with each title constituting a separate series. The remaining five series discuss Blades' personal activities, and her professional activities which were not related to a single book.

The 2002, 2006, 2008, 2011, and 2014 accruals also included copies of Blades’ published works. All printed materials have been integrated with the library collections and are searchable via the UBC catalogue.

Since at least 2006, the creator has for many files left annotations or descriptions, which have been kept with the records. The 2011 accrual was well-organized and carefully labelled by Blades before it was officially gifted to the University of British Columbia in 2011. As a result, all file names are based upon the titles devised by the creator. Within each file, Blades grouped related materials and indicated the subject of the grouping with a labelled paper wrapper which she folded around a collection of documents. These paper wrappers have been preserved. File contents have been retained in their original order.

Fonds documents several of Eva-Marie Kröller’s academic projects: her biography of British Columbia author George Bowering, Bright Circles of Colours (Talonbooks, 1992); essays on Roy Kiyooka and Emily Carr; her book Canadian Travellers in Europe, 1851-1900 (UBC Press, 1987); materials relating to her book Writing the Empire: The McIlwraiths, 1853-1948 (2021); an article entitled “Une femme bien en vue”: Adrienne Clarkson and the Media (2014); and an anthology of travel literature that she and historian Pierre Savard were planning, but which was not completed before Savard’s death in 1998 in addition to other various research materials. Also included are documents related to a workshop organized by SATE (Swiss Association of Teachers in English), and correspondence with Canadian authors. The materials consist of textual records (correspondence, notes, drafts, and readers’ reports), published materials, and a 3.5” computer floppy disk containing a digital manuscript of Bright Circles of Colours.

The fonds consists of records which document books and ephemera published by Rollin Milroy’s three printing presses: A Lone Press, Heavenly Monkey, and Heavenly Monkey Editions, as well as other independent and collaborative projects published by other printing presses. The records include setting copies, detailed layout schematics, dummies of final books, printing schedule sequences, proof impressions, make-ready copies, and various impression proof and waste/reject sheets, as well as printing blocks and printing plates, photographs, negatives and other documents related to the printing and publication process. The fonds also includes correspondence related to the production and publication of books, ephemera, newspaper articles and lecture notes written by Milroy on various subjects related to letterpress printing.

The fonds reflects Bernard and Jean Webber’s functions as leading members of the Cooperative Commonwealth Federation, teachers and education administrators, and advocates for local arts, history and Indigenous cultural regeneration. The fonds is comprised of 4 series; Political Papers series, Correspondence and Biographies series, Education and Employment Records series, and Community Activities series. Materials related to Indigenous arts, education and reconciliation are found throughout the fonds. Correspondence is its own series and is also found throughout, including copies of outgoing business correspondence.

Records related to Nakayama’s personal and family life and administrative affairs includes incoming and outgoing correspondence; address books and directories; maps; photographs; calligraphy and paintings on shikishi; medical records; travel documents and citizenship records; pension records; records and correspondence related to redress; legal documents; certificates, licenses, and membership cards; property and real estate records; banking and financial records; educational records; biographical information; clippings (many related to Joy Kogawa’s writing career), ephemera, and scrapbooks; notes and notebooks; and other materials.

Audio-visual materials consist of two films on three 16 mm film reels on the subject of World War II and Japanese culture.

The fonds also includes various forms of Black's artwork. A copy of a Black family history published by Myra Davey (née Black) in 2006 had a CD of digitized images.

It includes textual records such as scripts for his news reports and speeches, correspondence, notebooks, scrapbooks, newspaper and magazine clippings, honorary degrees and other awards, published items, posters, and miscellaneous writings. Also included are photographs, audiovisual recordings, and digital files.

The fonds consists of two series: the Roma Research series and a Publications series composed of copies of Cohn's publications. The first series includes material generated or collected by Cohn in the course of researching Roma. It includes audiotaped interviews of Rom with notebooks containing descriptions and analysis of the conversations; a computer-generated inventory of kinship ties among hundreds of North American Roma; a transcript of a New York trial (1962) of a Roma fortune teller; miscellaneous printed and published materials on Roma, collected by Cohn; and materials from a correspondence course for learning Romani (1969/70). The research series also contains photographs (1968-74) of Roma taken by Cohn throughout North America and Europe. The Publications series includes copies of Cohn articles (1959-1993) and a bibliography of his works (1950-1993).

The fonds consists of eleven audiotapes, comprising over four hours of interviews with well-known Canadian artists, including B.C. Binning and Jack Shadbolt. The fonds consists of a single audiotape series, arranged alphabetically. In these interviews, Adaskin examines each artist's unique creative process through probing and often unorthodox questions.

The fonds consists of notes, manuscripts, drafts, galleys, and correspondence relating to McWhirter's published and unpublished novels, short stories, poetry, and radio plays. It also includes biographical and autobiographical information, non-fiction manuscripts, book reviews, material regarding McWhirter's editorship of "Words from Inside", translation records, teaching material, records relating to his time as Head of the Creative Writing Department and other personal and professional correspondence.

The fonds consists of handwritten and typed manuscripts of short stories [n.d.], a painting of a seascape (1933), and a scrapbook filled with assorted memorabilia gathered between 1916 and 1933.

Fonds illustrates Mayrs’s work in visual arts, limited edition book design and publishing, and advertising and PR. It also contains records relating to his personal interests and family history.
The materials are arranged into three series, reflecting his different careers and personal life. Visual art and literary project records include: exhibition ephemera; photographic reproductions of Mayrs’s work; mockups, drafts, and unused material from projects; concepts and designs of unpublished and in-progress works; and correspondence related to his art practice. Advertising and PR project records include ads designed by Mayrs; administrative and ephemeral materials associated with Dome Advertising; and a small number of textual records relating to Mayrs’ work at Lovick BBDO. Personal records include Mayrs’ documentation of his family history; press clippings that profile Mayrs; and other photographs and ephemera that relate to his personal and aggregate professional life.

The fonds reflects George du Maurier’s life and career as an illustrator and writer. Graphic materials include 66 hand drawn illustrations and cartoons for Punch or Once A Week magazines as well as for books he authored himself. These graphic works were drawn primarily with black and brown ink or with graphite from 1856 through to his death in 1896. Also included with his graphic works is a print from the 1896 edition of Vanity Fair magazine. Records relating to personal correspondence written by or for du Maurier are also included in the fonds. First editions of "The Martian", "Trilby", and "Peter Ibbetson Volumes I and II" by du Maurier, as well as "Pictures of Life and Character" by John Leech and "Americans" drawn by C.D. Gibson, were also donated with the fonds that are now catalogued and available in the UBC library.

Fonds consists of documentation of the No Man Is An Island project and includes interview transcripts, correspondence, and consent forms of interviewees, in paper form. Also included is a USB stick containing digital transcripts and audio files from the interviews.

The fonds consists of indexes and research notes to sources of information about women at UBC, recordings of oral histories, and a photograph.

Fonds consists of the handwritten manuscript for George Bulhak’s book U.B.C. Panorama, published in 1945. Included are photographs and sketches by Bulhak intended for inclusion in the book and U.B.C. President N.A.M. MacKenzie’s handwritten “Foreword.” The manuscript was written in what was originally a bound ledger – isolated ledger entries can be found on the otherwise blank back pages, indicating that it may have been left as surplus at Burhak’s place of employment when he used it for his manuscript.

The fonds consists of records about Dr. Breen’s precedent-setting suit against Hancock House Publishing and Edwin Gould for copyright infringement of his doctoral thesis. These documents include court filings, notes, and rulings related to the lawsuit. The fonds also consist of records and materials related to the Asian-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) protests of 1997, including Dr. Breen’s involvement, with both formal and informal documentation and complaints filed with the commission.

Throughout his education and political careers, the records were generated by William Bruneau and relate both to personal and professional interests.
The fonds is divided into seven series: correspondence, diaries, research, department of education, history of education quarterly, papers and publications, certificates. The fonds consists of records generated through the various activities of the Ceremonies Office. The fonds also includes photographs that may have been taken at those conferences or included in published texts. Fonds consists primarily of correspondence between Ronald Baker and Roy Daniells. There is also some correspondence between Baker and Laurenda Daniells. Also included is a selection of poems and other verses, written by Daniells and collected by Baker. Materials are in two file folders.

The fonds consists of records and ephemera pertaining to John Laurence Russell Meredith and his family from 1863 to 1990. Records and ephemera pertaining to his father’s life are of genealogical interest as they provide insight into who he was. Records pertaining to his sister’s death show the painstaking detail the family took in providing a meaningful burial for her. The UBC ephemera provides a glimpse into Laurence’s social life at UBC. The music and theatre programs show his interest in the arts from a young age. The photographs provide valuable information on who his family was, what Laurence liked to do, and the activities in which he participated. His diary, letters received by him, and a list containing the translation of various words and phrases of the language of the Kwakwaka'wakw First Nation provide insight into who he was as a person.

The fonds contain materials that document William Fredeman's professional activities and personal life. It consists of correspondence, reports, copies of articles, course materials, a journal, clippings, microfilms and photocopies of original manuscripts, written notes and other research materials, photographs, videocassettes, a set of index cards, and a metal seal bearing the logo of the Journal of Pre-Raphaelite & Aesthetic Studies. Fonds consists of the personal papers of John Norris, including family papers, correspondence of both a personal and professional nature, notes of academic articles, lecture and class notes, as well as several photographs of Norris and his family. Fonds has been organized into seven series: Correspondence series; Family series; Political Career series; Hannah Institute series, Research Materials and Publications series; Teaching series; and Photographs series. Materials are arranged in alphabetical order unless otherwise indicated.

Fonds consists of materials documenting John Gordon Spaulding's academic scholarship and career, in particular his Pulpit Publications project, and includes notes, correspondence, published articles, drafts (both handwritten and typescript), computer codes, computer printouts (bound and unbound), and related records. The fonds is organized in three series: College And University Papers (including the sub-series Pomona/Stockton Numbered Files, Other College Files, Toward Dissertation & Dissertation I, and Lectures and Other Professional Papers), Personal Papers, and Cooke / Pulpit Publications (including the sub-series Correspondence, Provenance Studies, General Notes, Drafts, and Printouts, and Bound Computer Printouts). Where Spaulding's original arrangements were still apparent and considered practical, they have been retained – otherwise the files are arranged in chronological order.

Fonds consists of materials created and collected by Joan Coldwell through her relationship and her business dealings with Jane Rule. It includes incoming personal correspondence from Jane Rule and Helen Sonthoff to Joan Coldwell and Ann Saddlemyer. Also included is a sous-fond, Hedgerow Press – Loving The Difficult, arising from the Press’s publication of Jane Rule’s final book.
It consists of correspondence, contracts, obituaries, publication and promotion materials, including photographs of the book launch on Galiano Island, a digital copy of the work, a bound paper draft, and the 2008 Lambda Literary Award for non-fiction.

The fonds consists of incoming correspondence primarily from writer Jane Rule (1976-1983) and to a lesser extent from her partner Helen Sonthoff. It also includes copies of miscellaneous articles and columns by and about Jane Rule collected by Jean Wilson.

Fonds consists of material documenting Ian Slater's writing career. It includes 80 5 ¼ inch computer floppy disks containing different versions in digital format of Slater's works of fiction dating from 1981 to 1998. All digital manuscripts were originally typed in plain-text format on DOS 3.1 or 3.2. The fonds also includes a heavily-annotated copy of the second (2003) edition of Slater's Orwell: The Road To Airstrip One.

Fonds consists primarily of the working files and other materials of Geoffrey Smedley, together with some personal records. The materials include notebooks, drawings, written notes, correspondence, photographs, biographical and professional information, exhibition catalogues and other published items, and reference materials, in both hardcopy and digital media. They are organized in the following series: Notebooks, Works, Correspondence, Professional/Biographical, House and Studio, Grants and Awards, Reference and Research, Photographs, and Digital Media.

The fonds contains correspondence, contracts and royalty information, reviews, research notes, drafts of various manuscripts and productions, and ephemera from speaking engagements. It consists of the following series: “General Correspondence, contractual information, publicity, and etc.,” “Novels,” “Plays,” “Radio Productions,” “Children’s Books,” “Multimedia”, and “Photographs".

Fonds consists predominantly of copies of Douglas Bankson’s plays, scripts and short stories. It also includes photographs from two Bankson plays and of his artwork, as well as different posters and recordings from miscellaneous Bankson productions.

The fonds consists of approximately 1,750 35 mm. negatives of photographs taken between 1994 and 2008 by Longson. Over the years, several of her images were used to illustrate Christmas and other greeting cards for various University units. In addition, selective prints from the negatives have been scanned and added to the online photographic database. The fonds also includes printed and electronic samples of the cards created from the Longson images and digital copies of some photos stored on CDs.

The fonds consist of preliminary and working set design construction drawings and sketches for several productions on which David Fischer worked. It also contains show books that highlight his work. Highlights of the set designs in this fonds include his work on Shiney’s Head, Lonesome Dove The Series, Harvey, The Beachcombers, and Burton Cummings Going For Gold – a CBC production.

The fonds consists of material related to David Aberle's research activities, academic work and writing. It includes the notebooks and journals of his fieldwork beginning in 1940-41 and continuing through 1991. These consist primarily of field notes and other notes made during and after those trips. The vast majority of this material relates to Aberle's work with the Navajo in Arizona. The fonds also includes notes, articles, data and codes relating to Aberle's research into kinship and language among the Navajo, Mongols and Athapaskans, and extensive research into Navajo culture and economy. The fonds also includes correspondence on a variety of academic subjects, including Aberle's teaching materials from UBC's Department of Anthropology and Sociology. His work includes several reports written as part of the Navajo-Hopi land dispute. The fonds includes research notes for many of Aberle's essays and articles, as well as chapters and appendixes of his books.

Fonds contains three series: Archaeology, German and Personal. Within each series, the material has been organized into subseries such as correspondence, subject files, manuscripts, papers and reports.

Fonds consists of departmental records from Anthropology and Sociology (1964-2000); Canadian Sociology and Anthropology Association records (1970-1979); and material relating to the Simon Fraser University dispute concerning the Department of Political Science, Sociology and Anthropology (1969-1971). Ames assembled this group of records through his participation on the C.S.A.A. team, which studied the situation. The papers also include Ames's descriptions of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Museums Association (1980-1983) and the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute (1967-1995). The material relating to the Shastri Institute includes records generated or collected by Ames and other members of the Institute at UBC. The names of other members are indicated in the file title. Also, the fonds contains manuscripts and drafts, records about Ames's research, courses taught by Ames, a variety of conferences and seminars, and records about Ames’ participation in several museum studies program reviews. Finally, the fonds also contain Ames' involvement with the Museum of Anthropology (MOA). Most records as Director and Acting Director of MOA are held at the MOA Archives. Fonds contains five series: Correspondence, Notes, and Reports (1947-1976); Indigenous Peoples of BC Research (1954-1967); Doukhobors (1948-1954); Northern Development Research (1972); Harry Hawthorn Project (19--); and Audio (1971) series.
