Henry Doubleday, Epping to Rev. W.D. Fox, Osmaston . Fox has written asking Doubleday's assistance in Ornithology and/or Entomology. During last six or seven years Doubleday has assembled quite a collection of British Birds. Fox is welcome to any duplicates. Doubleday's similarly interested friends, Hewitson, Salmon, Gould, Wm. Yarrell. Doubleday includes a listing of his specimens.

William Hewitson, Newcastle to Rev. W. D. Fox, Osmaston Hall, Derby. Hewitson is writing for some bits of information that he needs to finish another section of his book and ready it for printing. Discusses some of his problems with the production. Hewitson is considering accepting the position of secretary to the Royal Institution in Manchester. Ends with a bit of political discussion.

Henry Doubleday, Epping? to Rev. Wm. Darwin Fox, York House, Ryde, Isle of Wight. Discusses sharing of specimens and Doubleday's observances of multitudes of birds and their nesting. Other names involved in similar observations - Temminck, Gould, Jenyns, J. Marshall?, Wm. Yarrell, J.S. Hay of Stoke. Close observation to differentiate species. Discusses specimen gathering and sharing in Natural History.

Series consists of early printed material, including an engraving, an advertisement, a theater hand-bill, a military report, and a circular letter, related to social, military, and religious activities in early French Canada.

[Ogden v. Dumont et al. land dispute documents]

File contains surveyor reports and other documents related to a case in the Court of King's Bench for the District of Montreal regarding a legal dispute between the Crown and four defendants over the dividing lines between properties in southwestern Quebec. The properties concerned in the case were the augmentation / second concession of Mille-Isles, the first concession of Mille-Isles (Blainville and Riviere du Chene), the seigniory of the Lake of the Two Mountains (Lac des Deux Montagnes), the seigniory of Argenteuil, and Chatham Gore (Gore de Chatham). The defendants named in the case were Eustache-Nicolas Lambert Dumont, Jean-Henry-Auguste Roux for the Seminary of Montreal, Janvier-Domptail Lacroix, and Catherine Jordan (widow of William Claus). The Crown was represented by Charles R. Ogden. Documents include a copy of the judgement, surveyors reports, procès-verbaux, accounting of costs owed for survey work, and an inventory of documents.

Series consists of correspondence of Edward Belcher’s brother Alexander Brymer Belcher of London, England and is arranged in two sub-series: incoming correspondence and outgoing correspondence.

William C. Hewitson, Bristol to Rev. W.D. Fox, Wood's Esq., Hampstead. There seems to have been a long silence between these two.
Hewitson discusses the numbers of his book which he is working on. Other men are involved in the identification of birds, etc. and they sometimes disagree with these collector's opinions. Hewitson has the job with the Royal Institution but he is disappointed with it and hopes to leave.

[Donald McLaren estate documents]

File contains financial documents related to the estate of the late Donald McLaren of which John McLennan (1789-1866) was executor. Documents include account balance sheets, an indenture for the lease of land, and promissory notes and receipts of payments received.
