David Narver fonds

The fonds consists of records relating to the education, research, career, and post-retirement activities of David Narver. The fonds is organized into three series: Postdoctoral Education; Career; and Personal. The Postdoctoral Education series includes records related to Narver’s PhD research while enrolled at the University of Washington. Narver worked as a researcher at the Canadian Fisheries Research Board Biological Station in Nanaimo, BC, and in Chignik, Alaska, working on salmon research projects. The Career series covers records related to Narver’s three-decade career. Narver worked for the BC Ministry of Environment, Fisheries Branch and Fish and Wildlife Branch, as Anadromous Fisheries Coordinator, Acting Chief of Fisheries Management, and Director of the Fisheries Branch. Records in the Career series include speeches and presentations, official correspondence, policy and administrative records (including meeting minutes), and research reports. The Personal series includes records related to Narver’s undergraduate or graduate post-secondary education, speeches and presentations given after his retirement, and a manuscript of his account of his time in Alaska. Narver remained active in fish, fishing, and fish habitat work after his retirement, working with the BC Wildlife Federation among other organizations.

Matthew Lindfors fonds

The fonds consists of material related to Matthew Lindfors’ advocacy, promotion, and research into the culture and history of the Swedish diaspora in Canada, particularly in BC. The materials are sorted into three series: Swedish-Canadian Culture and History; Press Publications and Correspondence; and Sofia Girls’ Tour. Contents include typescripts of interviews and radio broadcasts about Swedish-Canadian history in Canada (broadcasts were produced for the CBC), newspaper clippings about Swedes in Canada and abroad, correspondence with Swedish-Canadians and various groups supporting Swedish cultural activities in Canada (including Swedish-language film screenings in BC, Alberta, and Saskatchewan), and promotional and administrative records related to the 1956-1957 Canadian tour of the Sofia Girls’ Rhythmic Gymnastics Team, which Lindfors helped to organize. The fonds also contains nearly 200 photographs of Swedes, Swedish-Canadians, and the Sofia Girls’ Team.

Douglas Coupland fonds

Fonds consists primarily of records created by Coupland from approximately 1980 to 2012. The fonds includes: drafts of Coupland’s major literary works, personal and artistic photographs, visual art material (such as collages, paintings, printouts of digital collages and sculpture maquettes), items of clothing and leather goods, technical notes and designs for Coupland’s website, conceptual sketches and designs, correspondence, and other records.

The fonds consists of manuscripts of his novels and short stories, issues of underground newspapers, audio recordings of Maillard's radio shows, musical scores, correspondence with other writers, and reference files for his works. It also contains extensive electronic backups of his manuscripts, digital notes, and journals on floppy diskettes. It also contains artwork and photographs of important objects, people, and places.

General research material

The subseries contains newspaper and magazine clippings, index card notes by Seaholm on Swedish Canadians and Canadian history, photographs of Swedish Canadians, a handmade manuscript compiled by Seaholm of a chronology of Swedish Canadian contributions to the development of British Columbia, and a miscellaneous collection of stories on immigration in America. Clippings are in English and Swedish.

Swedish Canadian research material

During the 1960s, Seaholm received a grant from the New Horizon program to write a history about Swedish immigration to Canada. Although he never finished writing a book about this topic, this collection contains much of his research related to this ambition. The collection consists of correspondence, reports, minute books, newspaper and magazine issues and clippings, periodicals, books pertaining to Sweden and/or Swedish immigrant history, and research material about Swedish activities in North America. The series also contains a photograph collection of the Swedish community in British Columbia.

The series contains eight subseries: General research material; Photo collection; "They left something behind" collection; Book Collection; Swedish Pioneer Historical Quarterly periodicals; The Bridge (Brggyan in Swedish); Swedish Press Publishing Company; and Newspaper clippings and miscellaneous articles.

Swedish-Canadian research collection

The collection consists of research material created or collected by Olof Seaholm pertaining to Swedish immigration and organizations to Canada and North America. The collection mainly consists of general research material related to these themes, but there is some more specialized research into specific areas of Swedish Canadian history, such as the Scandinavian Central Committee and the International Order of Good Templars. Textual records in this collection include minute books, clippings, a constitution, correspondence, research notes, newspaper and magazine issues and clippings, books, and photographs documenting Swedish communities in British Columbia and research material about Swedish activities in North America.

The collection contains four series related to Seaholm's research. They include the Swedish Canadian research material series; Scandinavian Central Committee series; Independent Order of Good Templars series; and the Swedish Canadian Rest Home material series.
