Keith Maillard fonds

Visual materials series

Photographs (prints, slides, transparencies and negatives), drawings, and published and unpublished maps. Series is divided into subseries: Americas, Africa & Oceanic, and original negatives. Visual materials can be found in other series, notably in the professional activities and research materials series. Items in Box 64 were acquired in 2021.

Publishing & conference writing subseries

Academic papers and exhibition catalogues associated with various writing projects. Some materials for the published works relate to museum exhibitions can be found within the curatorial sub-series. Some overlap with the research material series, particularly regarding material prepared by others for conferences (see files: 24-19-24-61). This subseries is concerned with Sawyer's work. At the same time, the publications in the research material series involve the work of others.

Provenance information, detailed inventories, conservation histories, sales and acquisition records, donation documentation and correspondence regarding exhibition and research of Sawyer's personal collection.

Jean Coulthard fonds

The fonds consists of Coulthard's incoming family and general correspondence, correspondence from noted English composer Elizabeth Poston, financial records, biographical information, printed material and clippings documenting her involvement in the Canadian and International music communities as an advocate, educator and composer. Also included are original manuscripts of Coulthard's compositions and published and unpublished sound recordings of her work performances. The fonds also contain scrapbooks assembled by Coulthard's mother, Jean Robinson Coulthard, between 1898 and 1929, family photographs, and a photograph album compiled by her father, Dr. Walter Coulthard, depicting the Rossland area (ca. 1902).
Fonds are arranged into two sous-fonds: Jean Coulthard sous-fonds and Coulthard family sous-fonds. Brave New Play Rites fonds

The fonds consists of video recordings of various plays featured in the festival, photographs from some festival events and records pertaining to the administration of the festival. Administrative records take the form of promotional programs and posters, meeting minutes, agendas, memorandum, calendars, budgets, reports, newspaper clippings, notes, correspondence, handbooks, and some play scripts.

Brave New Play Rites

Photograph Series

Series consists of thirty photographs in black and white or color. Fifteen of the color photographs are adhered to poster board as a collage for the 1993 festival. Photographs depict different scenes from Brave New Play Rites productions in addition to “back stage” images of actors participating in plays.

Administrative Series

Series consists of textual materials created in order to run and promote the Brave New Play Rites festivals. Some folders were organized into a clear administrative folder that contains relevant records for one year, such as in 1994, while other materials were more interspersed in order by the creator. A significant majority of the materials are promotional in nature and include posters for the festival in addition to printed programs for each year. The titles and authors of student plays are often available in the programs. Other types of records included in this series are meeting minutes, agendas, memorandum, calendars, budgets, reports, newspaper clippings, notes, correspondence, handbooks and some play scripts.

William C. Gibson fonds

The fonds consist of research material on various medical and historical topics and research for several of Gibson's books and articles, including his books about UBC's first president Frank F. Wesbrook, Ramon y Cajal Sherrington, and his books New Endeavour and Old Endeavour. In addition, the fonds include manuscripts of a number of Gibson articles and speeches and chapters from some of his books, records from Woodward Health Science centre, and documents for the history of the Faculty of medicine and related to Green College UBC and Oxford. Also included are records from the Agricultural Science Fund Committee (1967-1974), School of Rehabilitation Medicine (1953-1961), Master Teaching Awards Committee (1967-1972), minutes from the Council of the Faculty of Medicine (1950-1964), materials relating to Vancouver civic politics (1970-1984), and correspondence with Sir Frederick Dainton (1980-1983), Cecil Green, and Wilder Penfield among many others.

The fonds consists of audio recordings of Weisgarber compositions or performances (1957-1999); musical scores, drafts and sketches (1941-1996); and research materials generated or accumulated by Weisgarber in the preparation of an unpublished biography of Aurelio Giorni, a manuscript entitled “Flute Music of Zen,” and an article "The Honkyoku of the Kinko-Ryu: Some Principles of its Organization" (1968). It also consists of family and personal records, including correspondence, fictitious and biographical writings and journals written by Elliot, Beth, and their family.

Fonds consists of 370 black and white negatives taken between 1917 and 1924. The images are primarily of UBC students at the University's original Fairview campus. There are also shots of faculty members. As well as posed individual shots of students, there are many photographs of various student activities including the annual class picnic. Although most of the photographs are not identified they are very important for collectively documenting student life at the University in the late teen’s and early 1920s.

Fonds consists of textual records generated throughout Dr. Miller's career with the Department of English. The records also illustrate some of his interests and activities outside the Department, including the Faculty of Arts Committee on Student Life; President's Committees on University Lectures, and Spiritual Life; the UBC Anglican-United Campus Ministry, and the Co-operative Christian Campus Ministry; the Humanities Association of Canada; and the Association of Canadian University Teachers of English.
The files are arranged in three series, representing Dr. Miller's spheres of activity: Department of English, University Affairs, and Outside Interests. Some files' contents overlap, particularly those dealing with the lecture committees and those labelled "English Department" and "Departmental Records" - however, the files and their contents were retained in their original order.

Includes general correspondence files, and correspondence files are arranged topically by New with mixed subject file material.

Miscellaneous series

The series consists of general correspondence and includes personal materials, teaching aids, records about a Canadian literature correspondence course taught by New, talks given by New, and other miscellaneous materials he collected.

Poetry series

The series consists of manuscripts, correspondence, organization notes, and records related to poetry authored by New.
