The collection, started at the turn of the century by Michaud, consists of documents, correspondence, and records relating to French-Canadian history. It includes transcripts and photographic copies of material in the Archives Nationales in Paris and Quebec and elsewhere.

The collection contains records related to Oscar Orr’s career in law, his professional and political affiliations, and records relating to his role as a prominent resident in the province of British Columbia. There are also historical records that Orr gathered as part of his collection. The collection consists of five series: British Columbia records; American records; Canadian provinces and politics records; Britain and Europe; and Books and miscellaneous records. The series contain correspondence, autographed clippings and notes, invitations and miscellaneous documents of prominent political individuals, businessmen, and royalty.
The series British Columbia records contains Orr’s correspondence with prominent and political members in British Columbia in the early to late 1900s. The series includes the autographs of BC political members as well as prominent BC court officials. Also includes a letter from Dan Cranmer of Alert Bay regarding a possible potlatch. The series American records contains documents and autographs of prominent US political, literary, and war figures. Records in this series date back to the 18th century and were part of the collection Orr gathered as part of his interest in history. The series Canadian provinces and politics records include early 19th century documents relating to the Canadian political landscape as well as Orr’s own correspondence with Canadian politicians and court officials. The series Britain and Europe contains records and autographs of British and European political, literary, and military figures, dating back to 1698. Books and miscellaneous records include books, newspapers, photographs and other records from Orr’s collection that relate to his interest in history.

The fonds consists of records related to British Columbia politician and judge Alexander Malcolm Manson's life. The records in this fonds encompass all aspects of Manson's life and were produced both through his career and in his personal life. Notably, the fonds contains extensive records from Manson's political career, his judicial career, and the investments and trusts he managed. Many areas of Manson's life overlapped considerably, including overlapping careers, and records related to one area of his life may be found among records related to another area.

The contents of this fonds consist predominantly of correspondence, including carbon copies of correspondence sent by Manson. This correspondence pertains both to Manson's career as well as to various parts of his personal life and has been arranged according to the file names used by Manson wherever possible; correspondence that has not otherwise been sorted by Manson has been sorted as "general correspondence," a designation which also includes personal correspondence. Other types of records in this fonds include meeting minutes, court proceedings, financial statements, newspaper clippings, governmental reports, shareholder reports, certificates, invitations and event programmes, and photographs.

The collection consists of a bound volume containing J.C. Dudgeon's autograph collection of many prominent American political figures, military leaders and literary men and women. Political autographs Include members of the United States Congress of 1861, U.S. President Millard Fillmore, Senators and Representatives of the United States from 1867, and Governors, Commanders and Bishops from 1867, Literary figures include Henry W. Longfellow, Anna Dickinson, Horace Greeley, and others.

The fonds consists of diaries, scrapbooks, and correspondence spanning the period 1910-2003 and related to the professional and personal lives of three generations of the Bamford family—William Blackley Bamford, his son William Blackley Stanley Bamford, and his grandson William Huestis Bamford—as well as to members of the Lasell and Ord families, related by marriage to William Huestis Bamford. Diaries in the fonds include concise “five year” or “line a day” diaries, as well as more detailed daily journals and many cover aspects of the Bamfords’ professional and personal life.

Scrapbooks in the fonds, which contain newspaper clippings, ephemera, correspondence, photographs, notes, and other material, primarily reflect the Bamfords’ personal interests, but also interests their chosen professions and employers, including the Canadian Pacific Railway Company and the Bank of Montreal. Beyond the incoming and outgoing personal and professional correspondence included in the scrapbooks, the Esther Adelina Lasell Bamford series contains incoming correspondence related to a branch of the Ord family living in New Zealand.

The fonds contains records pertinent to Lock Tin Lee’s functions as a KMT member, a public school educator, his personal life, and his overall involvement in organizations and affairs concerning the overseas Chinese. Lee’s records offer insight into the political aspirations of the Kuomintang amidst the backdrop of the Second Sino-Japanese War, the Cold War, the Chinese Civil War, and beyond; the public education scene for Chinese Canadians in British Columbia; and the lived experiences of the overseas Chinese in 20th century Canada.

Records predominantly range from Lee’s earlier years in China in the 1920s until his death in Vancouver, British Columbia, in 1980. Amongst Shepherd's papers are those of his wife, Dorothy H. Shepherd, which relate to her work as an executive member of the South Westminster CCF Women's Club (1942-1959).

Fonds consists of records created and accumulated by Dave Barrett relating to his personal, political, and professional life. Within the fonds there are appointment books recording information about Dave Barrett's private and political life, personal records, records created by Dave Barrett in the course of creating his autobiography, records created during Mr . Barrett's political career, and records created during Dave Barrett' s work with CJOR.

Fonds consists primarily of material related to Rush's activities as a leader of the CCP, political activist and writer in Vancouver from 1935 to 1996. There is also a personal/biographical series of records which detail the events of Rush's life. Other textual series in this fonds contain drafts of Rush's writings and public speeches, his correspondence, his reports and speeches to party conventions, and his published materials. There is a photographs series which details Rush's various editorial political trips to socialist countries during the Cold War. The memorabilia series also contains material related to Rush's trips abroad. There are pins, medals and commemorative coins from China, Vietnam and the Soviet Union. Finally, an audiocassette series contains recordings of some of Rush's speeches during the 1970s and 1980s.

This fonds consists of records related to Darryl Adams' activities as a political and social justice activist as well as his personal life. The fonds consists of three series: personal life and administrative records; activism involvement series; and activism collections series.

Records relating to the first series, Adams' personal life and administrative files include: personal correspondence received by Adams; photographs collected, taken of or by Adams'; school records and club memberships memorabilia; news clippings and other articles; and work related records such as research materials and correspondence.

Records relating to the second series, the activism involvement series, include material created or used by groups that Adams was involved in such as the Vancouver American Exiles Association (VAEA), as well as the Galindo Madrid Case of the 1970s. Fonds reflects Lee’s professional career, investment ventures, engagement with political and social communities, and life with friends and family. It offers particular insight into the social aspects of Lee’s life, as she kept many of the invitations, programs, and other ephemera relating to events that she attended because of her community involvement and philanthropy across all aspects of her life. In addition to a variety of textual records relating to her business ventures, volunteering, and military service, the fonds contains a significant number of photographs that were taken or otherwise collected by Lee and reflect the full range of her life’s facets.

The Ministry of Forests Lands and Water Resources Records series relates to Williams's time spent on the provincial cabinet working under the government of Dave Barret. Records consist primarily of correspondence, especially between Williams and major corporations and individuals in the forest industry. Other records include reports, studies, news clippings, bills and acts, speeches, presentation materials, and transcripts.

The Crown Corporations records series is comprised of documents stemming from Williams' activities as chair of ICBC, and his work in the Crown Corporations. Many records relate to the construction of Surrey City Centre. Record types include correspondence, reports, legal documents, and news clippings.

The Business, Personal and Academic Records series contains records related Williams’ business career, personal memories and diaries, pictures and travel memorabilia, and his experiences meeting other politicians. Record types include planning consultant studies, correspondence, interviews, and materials from his academic career including course outlines and reading lists.

The fonds consists of correspondence, financial records, legal documents, subject files, surveillance files, and printed material relating mainly to the union activities of George Gee as a business agent for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Vancouver Local 213, his expulsion from the union by an international representative of the union, and his attempts to be re-instated.

The fonds consists of thirteen series of records pertaining to the activities of Thomas Berger, including two series of files arranged with reference to file classification schemes, related to party politics and to the Sardar Sarovar Projects Independent Review, as well as eleven series of subject files generally arranged alphabetically, related to the Royal Commission on Family and Children’s Law, the Mackenzie Valley Pipeline Inquiry, the Advisory Commission on Indian and Inuit Health Consultation, a proposed United Nations Environmental Programme inquiry on whales and whaling, Japanese Canadians’ redress, the Alaska Native Review Commission, the Canadian Judicial Council and its investigation concerning Berger, the University of British Columbia President’s Ad Hoc Committee on British Columbia Native Indian People and Communities, the Simon Fraser University J. S. There are also files related to his resignation from the Supreme Court of Canada in 1981. The files were used by Berger when he wrote his autobiography <em>One Man’s Justice: A Life in the Law</em>.

The fonds consists primarily of subject files created and accumulated by Amy Dalgleish relating to various organizations in which she was involved such as the New Democratic Party and the Vancouver Society of Friends for the Elderly as well as social issues such as breastfeeding. The fonds also contain records from Ms. Dalgleish’s 1956 legal case before the B.C. Supreme Court on the right of a woman to use her maiden name on probate documents, as well as correspondence related to her various areas of political engagement.

The fonds consists of records spanning the period 1955-2013 that reflect Blanche Howard’s literary career, political interests, professional and volunteer work, as well as her personal and family life. Records related to Howard’s literary career include incoming and outgoing correspondence with publishers, agents, friends and family, colleagues and fellow writers, among others; literary works, including novels, short stories, essays, articles, book reviews, speeches, and plays in various editorial and publication stages; notes, outlines, and proposals; research materials; grant applications; contracts and royalty or revenue statements; biographical, publicity, and promotional materials; photographs, newspaper clippings, and ephemera; and other materials. Records related to Howard’s political interests and professional and volunteer work include correspondence with Iona Campangola, Capilano College, and members of The Writers' Union of Canada, among others; Vanier Institute of the Family correspondence and board meeting minutes; Moodyville Theatre correspondence, meeting minutes, and financial records; and other materials. The fonds reflects Ron Johnson’s involvement with the New Democratic Party (NDP) predominantly from the late 1960s to the late 1980s. Records include materials related to Johnson’s service as President of the British Columbia Young New Democrats in 1970 and his own campaigns running as the NDP candidate for Federal Member of Parliament in the riding of Vancouver Centre in the 1970s. Records also include his collection of campaign and labour ephemera, predominantly from the 1960s and 1970s, and materials representing Johnson’s communications and strategy work on numerous political campaigns from the 1960s through the 1980s.

The fonds reflects Johanna den Hertog’s involvement in various women’s movement, labour movement, political and public service positions predominantly from the 1970s through the early 1990s. Records include materials related to den Hertog’s contributions to the establishment of Vancouver Rape Relief, an organization established to provide services to rape victims, as well as other activities related to advocacy for women’s rights, such as her participation in planning the Women Rally for Action in 1976. Records related to her participation in the New Democratic Party (NDP) at the provincial level include her role as Vice-President/Executive member of the Provincial NDP (1981-1987), Co-Chair of Mike Harcourt’s leadership campaign (1987), leadership roles in the planning of the party’s 1982 convention and the 1983 and 1986 elections. Records related to her service as President of the NDP include materials related to her role as spokesperson for the party, chair of numerous committees, liaison with the labour movement and the party’s representative in international forums. Also included are records of her public speeches throughout Canada. The fonds also includes records related to den Hertog’s 1984 and 1988 campaigns to win election as a Federal Member of Parliament in the riding of Vancouver-Centre and the 1989 Provincial by-election for Vancouver-Point Grey, where she put her name forward for the NDP party nomination. Although unsuccessful all three times, she lost the 1988 campaign by a narrow margin. Records relating to den Hertog’s volunteer and project work include her service as a board member of the Canadian Centre for Arms Control, her publication of a book chapter on the constitutional debate that took place in Canada in the late 80s and early 90s, her service on the Royal Commission for Electoral Reform and her service as a commissioner for the National Citizen’s Inquiry into Peace and Security.

Records consist of newspaper clippings, brochures, agendas, minutes, notes, ephemera, diaries, calendars, reports, correspondence, photographs, press releases, pamphlets, drafts of speeches, campaign resources binders, policy briefings and the like.

The fonds consists of records created by or collected by Ian Waddell during his legal and political career. It contains six series: Community law, Mackenzie Valley Pipeline Commission, Federal politics, Provincial politics, Select Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs, and International works.Three series follow Waddell's career path (Community law, Provincial politics and Federal politics). The International work series spans both provincial and federal timelines and therefore is its own series. The Mackenzie Valley Pipeline Inquiry and Select Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs are series that represent two important landmarks of Waddell's career that dealt with important environmental and aboriginal issues.

Files are often subject focused, although some pertain to meetings, events, and organizations. Subject files typically contain multiple document types, including correspondence, published and draft reports, speeches and lectures, press clippings, published copies and drafts of legislation, notes, news releases, and itineraries and agendas.

These files were received following the completion of Waddell's memoir, which is noteworthy due to the potential influence on his arrangement of files, the contents of some files, as well as the intermittent inclusion of some records well outside the predominant date range of a series or file.

The research collection consists of interviews conducted for a published biography on Grace MacInnis. Interviewees include Dave Barrett, Rosemary Brown, Cliff Scotton, Harold Winch, and Bruce Woodsworth. She also collected speeches made by Grace MacInnis in the House of Commons as printed by Hansard, 1966-1974.

The records of Gary Lauk and his Executive Assistants Eric Green and Albert Mellul, are described in this finding aid. They were created in the course of the operations of the Minister's Office during the New Democratic Party (NDP) administration of government. The majority of the material pertains to Lauk's term of office as the Minister of Economic Development (1973-75), Minister of Mines and Petroleum Resources (October - December, 1975), and as Education Critic (1976-1982). Some material predates Lauk's appointment and relates to his responsibilities as a MLA.

Much of the material given in the initial donation deals with the direction given to the Department of Economic Development in its activities of promoting the economic development and diversification of BC while much of the material in the subsequent donation deals with the Education sector in BC from the mid 1970s to the early 1980s. Other records deal with the Lauk's communications with the British Columbia Cabinet and with the NDP party of Canada. A smaller amount of material relates to Lauk's role as a member of the NDP Caucus and the MLA for Vancouver Centre and a few files are of a personal nature.

The records have been arranged into three series: MLA for the Governing Party; Executive assistant to Lauk; and MLA for the Official Opposition Party. Within the first series are subseries of government department and subject files, as well as outgoing correspondence and Printed reference material. In addition, a subseries titled General government files, has been created of the documents that accumulated unfiled, while Lauk was Minister of Mines and during the provincial election.

The Executive Assistant to Lauk series contains two subseries: Subject files and Outgoing correspondence.

The MLA for the Official Opposition Party series contains Lauk's records that he acquired and/or accumulated during the time period from 1976-1985. The series contains four subseries including Education Critic; Subject files; Correspondence; and General government files.

The records largely consist of typewritten documents, such as correspondence, memoranda, briefings, minutes and itineraries. The records also contain printed materials such as press kits, new releases, brochures, newsletters, and newsclippings. Also included are a substantial amount of published and unpublished studies, reports, and proposals produced by the Department of Economic Development or by the other government departments and non-governmental agencies. The non-textual materials include an album of colour photoprints of the BC government's delegation trip to Japan, which Lauk was a part of, as well as a number of loose colour and black and white photoprints.

The fonds also contains correspondence files of Leo Nimsick (1972-1973), Lauk's predecessor as Minister of Mines and Petroleum. Lauk acquired these papers when he was appointed Minister.

The fonds consist of correspondence, speeches, research notes, and articles on various issues, such as discrimination, inequality of women, affirmative action, and sexual assault. There are nine series, which include: biographical information with day planners as a sub-series, committees, conferences, correspondence, lecture material, politics, printed material with Being Brown: Autobiography and African Canadian as sub-series, speeches, subject files, photographs, and audio/visual.

The collection reflects the research interests of Maurice Hodgson and includes research correspondence and notes, films, cassettes, microfilms, photographs, and slides. The series divides into three series: Belcher Research and Work, Polar Research and Work, and Herridge Research and Work.

The fonds consists of Ujjal Dosanjh’s private records from 1977 to 2015, comprising of all aspects of Donsanjh’s life in Canada. A prominent portion relates to his lifelong advocacy of Indo-Canadian issues. Particular matters addressed include Sikh extremism, the Khalistan movement, the bombing of Air India flight 182, and the Komagata Maru incident. Many records of a long political career, split between the provincial level; as a BC MLA, attorney general, and premier; and the federal level in the roles Minister of Health and a member of parliament; document the years between 1979 to 2011. These records are wide ranging and diverse in terms of their topics and functions. An extensive collection of scrapbooks contains contemporary media reaction related to Dosanjh's political and community work.

As Pratt held various roles simultaneously throughout her career and much of her union work informed her political career, this overlap is reflected in her files. Records are divided into series based on the role held by Pratt at the beginning of the process, resulting in some record dates falling outside the official boundaries of the role she was working in.

The fonds consists of papers of the Charlton family principally generated by Ormand Lee Charlton and his son Darwin, who in turn functioned as custodian of the records. The records themselves generally relate to the early CCF movement in British Columbia, and other socialist and labour movements across Canada. Papers include information about the Canadian Cooperative Society (Ruskin Mills) and the Industrial Union (Ruskin) in the 1890s. The fonds also includes several copies of the CCF news, the party newspaper, as well as scrapbooks, clippings, drafts of speeches and addresses, correspondence and photographs relate to the family's involvement in socialist politics. The fonds also includes a collection of CCF poems written by Charlton's wife Annie, and essays written by famed socialist thinker Mildred Macleod.
