Books

Series consists of time books, journals, coupon ticket books, information books (activity logs), pay logs, and pilot house log books. There are also notices, agreements, rule and regulations, and applications, and material concerning railway development, equipment, fitting and service profiles. In addition, there is a copy of The Quebec Central Railway Act and Slater’s (confidential) Telegraphic Code. The material is associated with several different railway companies, Victoria R & N.C., the Kettle Valley Railway and the Canadian Pacific Railway, and many different areas such as Penticton, Okanagan Landing, York, S. Britain, Vancouver and Victoria.

The collection consists of correspondence, financial records and ephemera. There is correspondence from employees (managers) of the Kettle Valley Railway Co. (K.V.R.) and the Canadian Pacific Railway Co. (C.P.R.) relating to derailment, Chinese labour and housing and the building of railway lines. C.P.R. Superintendent Thomas Daly's letter press book includes outgoing letters from Daly to various C.P.R. employees pertaining to operations in the Nicomin area, east of Lytton in the Fraser Canyon, ca. 1881-1882. In addition, there are journals which describe railway employment and travel in 1910 and 1911. The activity and pay logs, coupon ticket books, pilot house log books and time books relate to certain aspects of the railway industry in Penticton, York, Okanagan Landing, Vancouver, and Victoria.

Correspondence

Series consists of letter to and from D.C. Coleman, a President of the Kettle Valley Railway Co. (KVRC), and Andrew McColloch, a General Superintendent (KVRC – Penticton, B.C.) concerning causes of derailments and construction of rail lines. Chinese labor and cabins are discussed in the letters between various employees of the Canadian Pacific Railway Co. (CPR). There is also Thomas Daly’s’ Letter Press Book, which pertains to the building of C.P.R. lines in the 1880s. Daly was a Division Superintendent during this time period.
