John Hunter fonds

Fonds includes sixty-one literary works dating from 1969 to 2011, including screenplays, teleplays, manuscripts of novels, and non-fiction work along with accompanying correspondence, notes, press, research, photographs, and recordings. Scripts include both produced and unproduced projects. Also included is a small collection of personal material such as drawings and biographical materials with obituaries and tributes for Hunter.

Cooke / Pulpit Publications series

Series consists of materials documenting Spaulding's long-term project to correlate the entries in the two volumes of The Preacher's Assistant (1783) by the Rev. John Cooke using computer technology and includes notes, correspondence, published articles, drafts (both handwritten and typescript), computer codes, and computer printouts (bound and unbound). It is arranged in the sub-series Correspondence, Provenance Studies, General Notes, Drafts and Printouts, and Bound Computer Printouts.
The physical arrangement is partially based on Spaulding's original file organization and otherwise in chronological order. Many original folders have essential supporting information, presumably written by Spaulding.

College And University Papers series

The series consists of materials documenting Spaulding's academic scholarship and career and includes course and lecture notes, published articles, correspondence, CVs, and drafts (handwritten and typescript). It is arranged in the sub-series Pomona/Stockton Numbered Files, Other College Files, Toward Dissertation & Dissertation I, and Lectures and Other Professional Papers.
The physical arrangement is primarily based on Spaulding's original file organization. Many original folders have important supporting information, presumably written by Spaulding.

Personal Papers series

The series consists mostly of materials documenting Spaulding's personal life, including correspondence, essays, academic transcripts, and financial records. Files are arranged in chronological order.

Also included is a sous-fond, Hedgerow Press – Loving The Difficult, arising from the Press’s publication of Jane Rule’s final book.
It consists of correspondence, contracts, obituaries, publication and promotion materials, including photographs of the book launch on Galiano Island, a digital copy of the work, a bound paper draft, and the 2008 Lambda Literary Award for non-fiction.

Utilities Billing and Administration series

Series consists of meeting minutes, correspondence, and billing agreements, resulting from the administration of hydro and gas to UBC buildings by UBC occupants. It also includes materials forecasting new developments, infrastructure costs and anticipated utility needs.

Safety series

Series consists of minutes and safety materials for various committees associated with divisions that work on infrastructure installations, upgrades, renovations, and installations. It also includes materials related to the piloting of a workplace safety program.

Development series

Series consists of correspondence, maps, minutes and information kits related to the development, construction, and upgrading of buildings at the UBC Campus. In addition, it includes consultation on expected infrastructure costs for projects not managed by the department/UBC and collaboration with other development partners/units at UBC.

Project Files series

Series consists of correspondence, timelines, technical diagrams and plans resulting from planning the development of infrastructure and utility infrastructure on campus, such as seismic upgrades, putting in gas lines, upgrading power lines, and other projects carried out by UBC.

Infrastructure Development fonds

Fonds consists of records documenting the functions and activities of UBC Infrastructure Development and older records documenting those functions, development and management of institutional facilities within the former units of UBC Utilities and Campus Planning and Development. Records include correspondence, technical diagrams, meeting minutes and information, strategic planning reports, news clippings, consultation documents.
Records related to development projects were kept in their original order in the Project Files and Development series. However, other documents had no discernible order and were arranged into the other series presented.

Indigenous Communities Research Collection

The collection consists of research materials collected by Frank Tester and Glenn Drover. A large part of the fonds consists of newspaper clippings from the 1980s and 1990s related to Canadian and international Indigenous issues. Also included are copies of British Columbia provincial statutes and regulations dealing primarily with local First Nations issues, reports, and other materials documenting Indigenous communities' history in British Columbia and throughout Canada, focusing mainly on child welfare issues.

The collection also incorporates materials collected by Glenn Drover, former Director of the School of Social Work (1983-90). Drover was an accomplished scholar and a dedicated advocate for social justice in Canada and globally. He was recognized for his lifetime contributions to Canadian social work when the annual national social worker award was named the Glenn Drover Award for Outstanding Service. He worked with the Cree in the North, with youth in New York City, people in various countries of Africa and Asia, and various social welfare programs.

Fonds consists of material documenting Ian Slater's writing career. It includes 80 5 ¼ inch computer floppy disks containing different versions in digital format of Slater's works of fiction dating from 1981 to 1998. All digital manuscripts were originally typed in plain-text format on DOS 3.1 or 3.2. The fonds also includes a heavily-annotated copy of the second (2003) edition of Slater's Orwell: The Road To Airstrip One.

The records of the Department of Athletics and Recreation fonds are representative of the athletics side of the Department of Athletics and Recreation. While athletics and recreation fall under the same department, in practice, they operate independently of one another. Their textual records are also physically held at separate locations. Surviving records in the Department of Athletics and Recreation fonds are broadly representative of the achievements of UBC athletes and teams. Far less extensive, are the types of administrative documents produced or accumulated in the course of the day-to-day business of the department. Examples of records present in the fonds include programs, historical research, scrapbooks, newspaper clippings, team rosters, scoresheets, profile write-ups, yearbooks, media guides, correspondence, agendas, training schedules, coaching handbooks, travel itineraries, and ephemera.

Photographs series

The series consists of 16 negatives, 57 photographs, and 2 slides and include portrait shots of H. Peter Oberlander by the University of British Columbia and other photographs collected by H. Peter Oberlander. Physical photographs are catalogued as part of the photograph under series UBC 139.1. There are also digital-born photographs acquired on a CD. These are currently being reviewed; further information is pending.

Non-textual materials series

The series consists of audiovisual materials and digital-born materials featuring H. Peter Oberlander or regarding projects he was involved in during his career. The microfilm is included in box 37.

Citizenship Judge subseries

Subseries consists of reference materials, research and reports, citizenship programs, correspondence, citizenship promotional material, and meeting minutes and agenda from H. Peter Oberlander’s time as a Citizenship Court Judge.

Federal Government Works and Activities subseries

Subseries consists of drafts, essays, notes, clippings, correspondence, invitations, minutes, memorandum, newspapers, agendas, pamphlets, note cards, reports, plans, and maps, relating to H. Peter Oberlander’s professional work for the Federal Government of Canada.

United Nations Works and Activities subseries

Subseries consists of drafts, essays, notes, clippings, correspondence, invitations, minutes, memorandum, newspapers, agendas, pamphlets, note cards, reports, plans, and maps, relating to H. Peter Oberlander’s professional work with the United Nations, including the Habitat I and Habitat II conferences. Records relating to the Habitat II conference are also found in the Human Solidarity subseries.
