Fonds consists of material that reflects Charles van Sandwyk's development as an artist, illustrator and publisher of fine books in Vancouver. Materials include original artwork (watercolours, etchings), exhibition posters, book and book signing announcements, press proofs, broadsides, invitations, edition of the High Branch Society mail-outs (which include letters, cards, decorative envelopes, poems, and small copies of art), fabric banners, and medallions. Most of the items are signed by Charles. Some of these materials were brought together by Charles and the Joyce Williams Gallery; the arrangement of that material as it arrived has been maintained. Other materials were purchased from the creator and maintain the original order at the time of their acquisition.

The IABC fonds reflects the community collecting practices that the IABC undertook to preserve the history of Icelanders in British Columbia. Fonds is arranged in eight subfonds that reflect the various community organizations from which the archives originally collected.
Fonds documents the IABC’s commitment to preserving the lived experiences of its Icelandic community and is arranged into seven series that correspond to the IABC’s activities: administration and operation; providing educational programs and collecting biographies as well as written and oral histories; collecting Icelandic music; compiling a collection of Icelandic newspapers and publications; holding exhibits and events; acquiring photographic collections; and lastly acquiring collections of textual records, ephemera, and artifacts from its community.

The fonds consists of records relating to the ABPBC’s activities. Records cover the period of time from the ABPBC’s inception to 2015 and pertain primarily to the book publishing industry in the province of British Columbia. The ABPBC’s activities included applying for funding from a range of provincial and federal organizations and governments, holding meetings, advocating for their members to the provincial government, promoting their members, undertaking special projects, and researching areas pertinent to the provincial book publishing industry. Specific administrative activities the organization undertook included maintaining its multi-level membership base, managing finances and funding applications, electing executive teams, and overseeing various projects.
The fonds spans five accruals, organized into four distinct sets of series. These sets of series are represented in the PDF finding aid attached.
Association of Book Publishers of British Columbia
The fonds consists of moving images, sound recordings and photographs created during Alan Twigg's production of the film Spilsbury's Coast and accompanying textual materials, as well as moving images and textual materials created during his production of the BC Book World television series. The fonds also consists of textual, photographic, sound recordings, and moving images related to Twigg's interest in and association with writer George Woodcock, particulaly in the early 1990s. Additionally, the fonds includes files of textual and photographic materials related to authors of British Columbia, created as part of Twigg's role as publisher of BC Bookworld.
The fonds consists of textual records and artwork created by Ann Blades during the course of her career as an author and illustrator of Canadian children’s literature. The records date from circa 1967 to 2013, with particular concentration during the years immediately prior to the publication of Blades’ works. The fonds is especially strong in areas related to book production and sales, including, contracts, royalty reports, correspondence with publishers, literary agents and designers, layout materials, manuscripts, sketches, drawings and paintings. In addition, the creator has gathered a number of clippings and reviews which document the critical reception of her work.
The fonds is divided into 31 series. 26 of these series, the majority of the materials in the fonds, have been arranged by the creator according to book title (including both published and unpublished works) and therein according to textual records and artwork. This arrangement has been maintained by the processor with each title constituting a separate series. The remaining five series discuss Blades' personal activities, and her professional activities which were not related to a single book.

The 2002, 2006, 2008, 2011, and 2014 accruals also included copies of Blades’ published works. All printed materials have been integrated with the library collections and are searchable via the UBC catalogue.
Since at least 2006, the creator has for many files left annotations or descriptions, which have been kept with the records. The 2011 accrual was well-organized and carefully labelled by Blades before it was officially gifted to the University of British Columbia in 2011. As a result, all file names are based upon the titles devised by the creator. Within each file, Blades grouped related materials and indicated the subject of the grouping with a labelled paper wrapper which she folded around a collection of documents. These paper wrappers have been preserved. File contents have been retained in their original order.
Fonds consists primarily of records created by Coupland from approximately 1980 to 2012. The fonds includes: drafts of Coupland’s major literary works, personal and artistic photographs, visual art material (such as collages, paintings, printouts of digital collages and sculpture maquettes), items of clothing and leather goods, technical notes and designs for Coupland’s website, conceptual sketches and designs, correspondence, and other records.
The fonds consists of the business records created and/or collected by Lazara Press and its founder Penny Goldsmith, predominately from the early 1980s to the late 1990s. The records are loosely divided into two main categories: administrative and publication records. The administrative records contain material documenting the different functions of Lazara Press, including promotional/distribution information, financial records, memberships information, and correspondence Lazara Press had with other printing presses and booksellers in Canada and in Europe. Other administrative records include materials pertaining to projects Goldsmith was involved in, either as a representative of Lazara Press or of her own initiative.
The publication records contain material relating to the publication process of the various broadsheets, chapbooks, volumes of poetry, plays, short stories, and essays printed by Lazara Press. Arsenal Pulp Press
Collection consists of Al Sens’ professional records, produced and received in the process of his career in cartoon and animation illustration. Material spans his career from the 1950s to the 2010s. The collection is arranged into two series according to record type: publications series and original illustration series.
The fonds consists of material relating to the work and collections of Robert Reid. It includes a collection of fine printwork from a variety of presses, examples of printed material at various stages in the publication process, and research and reference material relating to design and printing.
Also included in the fonds are biographical material, correspondence to and from Reid, financial records, speeches, notes, clippings, and photographs. The content of this material relates to both the personal and professional life of Reid and spans from the the 1930s to the 2000s.

The records include setting copies, detailed layout schematics, dummies of final books, printing schedule sequences, proof impressions, make-ready copies, and various impression proof and waste/reject sheets, as well as printing blocks and printing plates, and other documents related to the printing and publication process. The fonds also includes correspondence related to the production and publication of books, ephemera, newspaper articles and lecture notes written by Milroy on various subjects related to letterpress printing.

The fonds consists of Eric Nicol’s business correspondence, drafts (handwritten notebooks and typescripts) for various writings, finished scripts for plays and shows, drafts, reference materials, reviews of his work, printed materials featuring his articles, subject files, royalty statements and other financial records regarding the publication of Nicol's books, as well as posters, newspaper clippings, awards, photographs and other ephemera which document Nicol's career as a writer. The fonds contains a file of his correspondence with The Vancouver Sun, which was kept by the Sun and later given to Nicol. The fonds consists of records generated and assembled by David Watmough related to his life and career as a novelist, short story writer, playwright, monodramatist and performer, poet, critic, broadcaster, journalist, and teacher. The fonds includes series of records arranged in twenty divisions, with the greatest portion related to writing and literary production: novels, short stories, plays and dramas, monodramas, poetry and songs, nonfiction books, diaries and journals, essays, collections and anthologies, recordings, reading scripts and performance files, radio and television broadcast scripts and project files, film scripts, lectures, addresses, and orations, journal articles, interviews, and reviews of books, exhibitions and theatre performances, as well as correspondence, finance and business files, subject files including published material about Watmough and copies of published material by him, and ephemera and miscellanea. The arrangement of records in files by the creator has been respected where such order exists. The fonds contains textual records, both manuscript and typewritten as well as computer generated, some printed, published material, an occasional sketch or drawing, several sound recordings of Watmough performing, a small number of electronic records, and a number of photoprints and slides kept with the original files where possible. Some monodramas have been retained in the original bindings provided for performance by the creator.

The Jim Hamm Doukhobor Research Collection consists of two VHS copies of the documentary film, The Spirit Wrestlers, and other materials relating to the production of the film such as Betacam SP videos (camera masters), VHS videos screening copies, 35mm slides, digital photos on CD, audio cassettes and transcripts of the interviews in hard copy and on CD. In addition, footage logs, printed material, photographs and photocopies of photographs relating to the film have been created or collected, 1999-2002.
Fonds consists of records created and accumulated by Dave Barrett relating to his personal, political, and professional life. Within the fonds there are appointment books recording information about Dave Barrett's private and political life, personal records, records created by Dave Barrett in the course of creating his autobiography, records created during Mr . Barrett's political career, and records created during Dave Barrett' s work with CJOR.
The Jim Hamm Documentary Film Collection consists of materials relating to three of his documentary films: "The Air We Breathe" (1996), "Between the Rock and a Hard Place" (1997) and "Turning Down the Heat" (1999). "The Air We Breathe" was a co-production of Jim Hamm and the National Film Board. It is an examination of the problem of smog in relation to political decisions, dependency on automobiles, and social-cultural forces. Hamm acted as co-producer, script writer and director. The film was broadcast on the CBC, WTN, SCN, Knowledge Network and Access Alberta. "Between the Rock and a Hard Place" was produced in association with CBC Newsworld. It is the story of Newfoundlanders who leave their home province after the collapse of the cod fishery, ironically finding work in the exploit of another natural resource in Fort Nelson, British Columbia. The film was aired on CBC Newsworld and on CBC Newfoundland. "Turning Down the Heat" was co-produced with the National Film Board in association with CBCs program "The Nature of Things," narrated by David Suzuki. The film showcases viable solutions to climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Hamm acted as director, co-producer and co-script writer. The film was aired on "The Nature of Things," and has other screenings nationally and internationally. Storage issues dictate that the textual materials relating to these films and the audio visual materials be separated, so the fonds therefore contains the series: "The Air We Breathe" Textual Materials series, "Turning Down the Heat" Textual Materials series, "Between the Rock and a Hard Place" Textual Materials series, "Turning Down the Heat" Audio/visual Materials series, "The Air We Breathe" Audio/visual Materials series, and "Between the Rock and a Hard Place" Audio/visual Materials series. The largest division of the collection is the audio/visual materials.
Fonds consists of material related to a documentary film made by John Corry, entitled “Life's Imprint: Lithographs by Jack Shadbolt.” This 1994 film documents Canadian artist Jack Shadbolt’s production of a four-part colour lithograph, done over a 9-month period in collaboration with lithographer Torrie Groenig. The film was produced and directed by Corry, with the support of the National Film Board of Canada and Knowledge Network., and was originally broadcast on CBC, Bravo!, and Knowledge Network. It includes scenes from Shadbolt’s studio in Burnaby and the Limited Editions studio in Gastown.
Material includes the master tapes from filming, production notes, photographs, obituaries for Shadbolt (who died in 1998), and promotional and distribution documents.

The fonds consists of subject files, office files, printed material, videos, photographs, and slides relating to home economic topics such as cooking and kitchen and laundry planning presented by Beatrice Millar on behalf of the British Columbia Hydro Home Service Centre. Photographs consist of slides used in the BC Hydro home economics program, publication production photographs, as well as photographs of BC Hydro and Beatrice Millar in a television studio.
The collection is primarily composed of printed material and publications generated by various gay organizations in Vancouver with some references to Victoria.
The collection consists of records covering the period from the granting of the Victoria and Esquimalt Telephone Company charter in 1880 to 1982 when B.C. Telephone Company employees were laid off without notice. It includes union minutes, arbitration details, correspondence, press clippings, constitutions, agreements, and financial reports relating to the Telecommunications Workers Union of B.C.
Fonds consists of records related to the documentary film which Ewashen directed entitled In search of utopia: the Doukhobors, produced under the name Gemini Cooperative for the Performing Arts. Other individuals involved in the film included Ray Gallon, Koozma Tarasoff and Ken Innes. Records consist of two copies of the film on reels, a shot book containing copies of historical photographs and correspondence, contracts and other textual records related to the production and promotion of the film, and a teacher’s manual and study guide.
Fonds consists of records related to Robert Duncan’s role as producer of the National Film Board of Canada’s documentary "Volcano: An Inquiry into the Life and Death of Malcolm Lowry" (1976). Principal work on the film spanned from 1974 to 1976.
Textual records in the fonds consist of transcripts of interviews conducted for the documentary and documents related to planning, research, production, and post-production activities for the film. Interview transcripts are arranged by film roll number and chronological order. Film production documents include correspondence, financial documents, forms, memoranda, notes, schedules, permits, promotional materials, ephemera, film proposals, copies of newspaper articles, and other material. Photographs include black and white stills of Lowry and his friends and family used in the film, as well as black and white prints of behind-the-scenes photographs taken during filming. Duncan, Robert Alexander Bremner
The fonds consists of material related to Emerson's career in radio and to his involvement in Canadian (Vancouver) radio and musical theatre, principally during the 1950s and early 1960s. It includes scripts and notes for various radio programs which Emerson hosted and in which he was involved. The fonds also includes musical scores, programmes, manuscripts, and lyrics from his musical theatre work; newspaper and magazine clippings of reviews and articles making mention of Emerson and his acquaintances; and miscellaneous non-textual materials including a photograph and two 45 rpm audio discs.

Fonds reflects Blondal's personal life and work as a writer, radio broadcaster, university student and researcher whose interests include religion, philosophy, psychology and criminology in the 1940s and 1950s. Records are arranged into four series, spanning from about 1929 to 1963, including documents that were added by her husband following her death in 1959.
The collection consists of photography of every aspect of World War I - from cadet training to soldiers' graves. Every theatre of war is represented, but the majority of prints were taken in Europe, particularly on the battlefields of France and Belgium. In Britain, there are prints of Gibson Girls welding ships or carting coal. There are prints of royalty and military commanders, including Greek, Belgian and Japanese aristocracy. The technology of war is illustrated in the numerous prints of planes, ships, tanks and guns of all kinds. The collection is strong in portraying the average "Tommy" and his role in the war.
The fonds consists largely of print samples of commercial work produced by Hudson throughout his career as a fine printer. Print samples include commerical notices, leaflets, stationary, greeting cards, invitations, memorial notices, broadsides, cover proofs,etc. The samples include work for Gallelry Tantalus (Powell River), Alcuin Society, and the University of British Columbia.

Correspondence with Derek Healey and Tibor Serly provide the framework for collaborations created, primarily by mail, with each person. The fonds consists of a record book of the B.C. Institute of Journalists from the period of E.H. Scott's presidency of the Institute (1928-1929). The fonds also includes various newspapers, some relating to Newsman's Club activities; as well as information, including a brief history of the Club in the 1950s and 1960s; seven items pertaining to the 1930s cooperatives; and Vancouver memorabilia.
The fonds consists of photographs of mines, mining activities, and mining personnel created and collected for use in the Western Miner and its predecessor publications, The Miner and the British Columbia Miner. Images include aerial views as well as ground level shots of mine sites, buildings, townsites, mining, milling, smelting and other mineral processing operations. The photographs include exteriors and interiors of mines and buildings, crews at work, and a collection of portraits of company executives, staff and Canadian politicians.
