Clippings series

The series consists of clippings from newspapers and magazines and includes examples of Chongs’s published fiction and non-fiction writing and reviews of his books.

Columbia University series

Series consists of materials that document Chong’s time in the creative writing programme at Columbia University and includes correspondence and course materials.

Correspondence series

Series consists of Kevin Chong’s personal and professional correspondence and includes letters and postcards.

Fonds consists of records that document Kevin Chong’s education, and writing and teaching careers. The records include typewritten manuscripts, written notes, annotated proofs, correspondence, research materials, teaching materials, newspaper and magazine clippings, publications, posters, photographs, and digital recordings. They are arranged in the following series: Manuscripts – Published Works, Manuscripts – Unpublished Works, Other Writings, The Redenbachers, Correspondence, Clippings, Vancouver Public Library, UBC, Columbia University, Publishing, Teaching, Research Materials, Other Publications, Grants, Competitions, and Writers’ Festivals, and Miscellaneous.

Manuscripts – Published Works series

Series consists of typewritten manuscript drafts, many of which include handwritten notes and annotations of works by Kevin Chong that were eventually published, broadcast, or performed. They are arranged into sub-series: Books, Short Fiction, Broadcast Works, and Stage Works. Within each sub-series, files documenting each work are grouped and arranged chronologically by the work’s publication date.

Some manuscripts have dates included with them, and these are noted in the file list. Dates in square brackets are estimates, either provided by Chong or inferred by the materials themselves.

Manuscripts – Unpublished Works series

Series consists of typewritten manuscript drafts, many of which include handwritten notes and annotations, of works by Kevin Chong that were never, or have yet to be, published, broadcast, or performed.

Miscellaneous series

Series includes CVs, correspondence, written notes, photographs, and a CD-DA recording of an interview with Kevin Chong.

Other Publications series

Series consists of published materials that Kevin Chong collected based on his interest and involvement in the Vancouver alternative music and literary scenes and includes magazines, zines (self-published items), posters, and other published materials.

Other Writings series

The series consists of handwritten and typewritten manuscripts by Chong, many of which are untitled, undated, or otherwise unidentified. Some of them date to his years in high school and university.

Publishing series

Series consists of materials documenting Kevin Chong’s relationships in the publishing industry and includes correspondence, agreements, publishers’ catalogues, annotated off-prints, and readers’ reports.

Research Materials series

Series consists of materials collected or created during Chong’s research activities, both in connection with his writing projects and otherwise, and includes written notes, correspondence, and photocopied published materials.

Teaching series

Series consists of materials documenting Kevin Chong’s teaching activities at UBC and the Vancouver Film School, and includes correspondence and course materials.

The Redenbachers series

Series consists of materials documenting Chong's former rock group, The Redenbachers, and includes set lists, song lyrics, posters, and correspondence. Materials are undated. Kevin Chong provided the date range.

UBC series

Series consists of materials documenting Chong’s time as a student at the University of British Columbia and includes correspondence, course materials, written assignments, and published materials.

Vancouver Public Library series

Series consists of documents relating to the duties and activities of the Vancouver Public Library Board of Trustees. Kevin Chong served as a VPL trustee for two years (2003-04).
