The collection consists of records of the provincial office of the Cooperative Commonwealth Federation and general research material pertaining to socialism and the labour movement. It consists of minutes, scrapbooks, office correspondence and files relating to party organization and records of committees, CCF clubs, constituencies, federal ridings and election. The collection also includes records generated by Arthur Turner as CCF Whip and Arnold Webster as a provincial party leader. Subject files pertaining to early socialists and clippings about international affairs were created by Dorothy Steeves. Subsequent accessions added to the collection have included the records of Angus MacInnis, Francis McKenzie and former provincial leader Ernest Winch.

The fonds consists of records relating to the ABPBC’s activities. Records cover the period of time from the ABPBC’s inception to 2015 and pertain primarily to the book publishing industry in the province of British Columbia. The ABPBC’s activities included applying for funding from a range of provincial and federal organizations and governments, holding meetings, advocating for their members to the provincial government, promoting their members, undertaking special projects, and researching areas pertinent to the provincial book publishing industry. Specific administrative activities the organization undertook included maintaining its multi-level membership base, managing finances and funding applications, electing executive teams, and overseeing various projects.

The fonds spans five accruals, organized into four distinct sets of series. These sets of series are represented in the PDF finding aid attached.

The collection consists of ninety-one albums of postcards and photographs pertaining to views and scenes mainly in British Columbia, but also including Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec and the Yukon as well as Europe. The views of British Columbia include views of the Rocky Mountains, Vancouver, Victoria, Mayne Island, and Buttle Lake (pre-1911) as well as those of logging (Capilano Timber Co., 1917-1920), mining (Granby Consolidated Mining, Smelting and Power Co. and Consolidated Cariboo Hydraulic Mining Co.) railways (Canadian Pacific Railway, Grand Trunk Pacific Railway, Esquimalt and Nanaimo Railway, and Great Northern Railway) and shipping. In addition to financial records, it includes plant appraisements for various canneries and properties owned by B.C. Packers Ltd., as well as Canadian Fish and Cold Storage Company Ltd., Coast Oyster Company, Edmunds and Walker Ltd., J.H. Todd and Sons Limited, Nelson Bros. Fisheries Ltd., Nelbro Packing Co., Queen Charlotte Canners Ltd., Rupert Fish Co. Incorporated and Western Canada Whaling Company Ltd. Those canneries and properties include Alert Bay Cannery, Bella Bella Cannery, Boswell Cannery, Celtic Shipyards, Imperial Plant, Kildonan, Klemtu, Ladner Cannery, Masset, Namu Cannery, New Westminster Cannery, Paramount Cannery, Port Edward Cannery, Prince Rupert Plant, Quathiaski Plant, Richmond Plant, and St. Mungo Cannery. In addition, the fonds consists of fifty printer's blocks for producing lithograph salmon tin labels and approximately 100 plastic cards used for advertising fish products. Also included are miscellaneous items such as the Roll of Honour of the B.C. Canning Company listing men in service during World War I, Fraser River charts (ca. 1929-1947), a sample of receipts for tram passes to B.C., and a framed sheet describing the history of the Bella Coola camp.

The fonds consists of ninety-four original watercolours of British Columbian life, mainly of social life, customs, and dress in Hudson's Bay Company posts and along various transportation routes (1874-1880). Sketch book includes four photographs of Fort McLeod, Stuart Lake and the artist. An accrual to the fonds fonds consists of artwork and a published memoir of H. Bullock-Webster. The artworks depict scenes from the daily life Bullock-Webster experienced managing the trade post in Northern British Columbia in the late 19th century. Nine original pieces are included along with ca. 35 clippings of artwork, comics, and illustrations published in The Graphic magazine. The included memoir, entitled, Memories of Sports and Travel Fifty Years Ago: From the Hudson’s Bay Company to New Zealand, contains the author’s account of his young adulthood in Britain, his work for the Hudson Bay Company, and his emigration to New Zealand, along with several illustrations by the author.
