History

Born LOW Mun Ting on September 5th, 1916 in Victoria, B.C. to Low Wing (father) and Wong Shee (mother), Thomas Lowe was often referred to as Tommy by his loved ones. He grew up between Vancouver, Victoria, Toronto, and Ottawa.

While going to school in Vancouver, Tommy was known to build model vehicles and was a member of the Fisher Body Craftsman's Guild. In 1933, Tommy won an award from the Craftsman's Guild for a model carriage he constructed.

The family believes he was one of two who won this award in Canada that year and the carriage can be found in the Museum of Vancouver.

Tommy worked as a fisherman and at the local canneries in Vancouver. During one of his fishing trips, he met Kimiko Atagi, a young Japanese-Canadian woman, and fell in love. The two dated until Tommy passed of tuberculosis in 1936 in Vancouver at the age of 20.

It is unknown if Kimiko knew of Tommy's passing, though years later, her family was interned in Northern BC where her relatives still live today.
