Custodial history

The Lowry Collection Microfilming Project (project 4029-B1-0005) was conducted in four phases between 1997 and 2000. The project was proposed as a preservation action. Though the Collection was appropriately housed, the then-current UBC Library RBSC administration felt it appropriate to also have microfilmed versions of Collection materials available to use in place of originals when making copies for researchers.

Phase One (1997) microfilmed the Malcolm Lowry Papers’ Incoming and Outgoing correspondence and Manuscripts, Poetry series, as well as the Margerie Lowry Papers, Earle Birney Papers, and William McConnell Papers. Phase Two (1998) microfilmed the Manuscripts, Prose series (A-N). Phase Three (1999) microfilmed the Manuscripts, Prose series (M-Z). Phase Four (2000) microfilmed the rest of the materials in the current Microfilm sous-founds files. Funding for all four phases of the Lowry Collection Microfilming Project was provided by the Canadian Council of Archives.
