Administrative history
The Nursing Education Council was established in 1976 to provide a venue for administrators from BC nursing education programs to discuss and communicate concerns related to the administration of these programs. The Nursing Education Study was commissioned in the Spring of 1978 to study and make recommendations in regard to provincial nursing care programs.
The Nursing Educational Council is composed of representatives from post-secondary nursing institutions offering nursing programs, with representatives from nursing organizations, hospitals, the Ministry and others often attending meetings. Its purpose is to provide an opportunity for senior representatives from all nursing education programs to meet to discuss concerns related to the administration of nursing education programs, to communicate these concerns to appropriate bodies, and co-ordinate nursing programs throughout BC to ensure good nursing care is available throughout the province, with suitable courses offered for graduated nurses to upgrade their qualifications. Meetings are held two or three times a year, generally in the Lower Mainland.
