Biographical history

Peter Pearse was born in Vernon, British Columbia. He received a B.S.F. in forestry from the University of British Columbia (1956) and an M.A. (1959) and Ph.D. (1962) in economics from Edinburgh University in Scotland. He returned to UBC to teach in the Department of Economics in 1962. His research interests have focused on natural resource economics, particularly in the development and management of the forest and fishing industries. Pearse has also served as Commissioner on the Royal Commission on Forest Resources in British Columbia (1975-1976) and Pacific Fisheries (1981-1982). He also chaired the Inquiry on Federal Water Policy (1984-1985). His publications include: Treaties and transition: towards a sustainable fishery on Canada's Pacific coast (2004), Currents of;change: final report/Inquiry on Federal Water Policy (1985), and Introduction to Forestry Economics (1990).

The collection consists of the hearings of the Commission on Pacific Fisheries Policy, including exhibits, with some annotated commented by Peter Pearse and the hearings presented before the Inquiry on Federal Water Policy, including corresondence received by Pearse during and after the Inquiry and the publication of its Final Report.
