Scope and content
The series consists primarily of personal photographs of Blanche Howard’s family, along with work and career-related photographs of Bruce Howard, and a small amount of textual ephemera. Photographs of the Howard family span from the 1960s until 1994 and include images of Blanche and Bruce Howard with friends and family, including the Howards’ three children, Allison, Stephen, and Leslie, along with their spouses and children. The series contains photographs of Blanche Howard and Carol Shields during a visit the Howards made to France in 1990. Photographs of Bruce Howard include images related to his time as a Liberal Member of Parliament for Okanagan Boundary between 1968 and 1972, his position as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Industry, Trade and Commerce from 1970 to 1972, and his role as a citizenship court judge. The series also contains original and photocopied personal correspondence and ephemera including newspaper clippings, greeting and birthday cards, a memorial service program, a booklet from Blanche Howard’s high school reunion, a typed copy of a diary entry made by Blanche Howard’s father, and other materials. Ephemera related to Bruce Howard’s political career includes newspaper clippings, a travel itinerary, an invitation from Prime Minister Trudeau to an official function, and a holiday card to constituents.
