Biographical history
Samuel Service was a Constable, and later Sergeant, for the British Columbia Provincial Police and, following the merge of organizations, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. He worked in Port Alberni, Cowichan, Chemainus, and surrounding regions in British Columbia.
Custodial history
The records of the fonds were owned by Samuel Service and later acquired by Bjarne Tokerud Bookseller Inc. of Victoria, BC. The fonds was purchased by UBC Rare Books and Special Collections in May 2009.
Scope and content
The fonds contains notebooks, photographs, ephemera and correspondence relating to the career of Constable (and later Sergeant) Samuel Service with the British Columbia Provincial Police and, following the merge in 1950, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). The records related to Service's work and life in the cities and surrounding regions of Port Alberni, Cowichan, Chemainus and Victoria.
