Its name changed to the Social Policy and Review Council in 1968 and to the Social Planning and Research Council (SPARC) in the 1980s. SPARC's main mission has been to draw on people of diverse communities and constituencies to formulate opinions and influence public policy in human care development services and concerns. SPARC focuses on areas of social policy through the work of various committees and has formed special committees from time to time to guide particular projects.
