This sub-series is mostly comprised of published grey literature on topics related to population, including population statistics, population policy, laws, education, and world fertility surveys.

Polls were a regular part of election preparations for the BC NDP, and over time, many different companies were engaged by the New Democrats to conduct baseline polls, panels, and focus groups. While polls were often conducted specifically leading up to an election, they would be used to gauge public sentiment throughout the year, and many polls prepared by and for third parties were consulted, analyzed, and kept on hand as well. Though their original placement within the Provincial Offices is unknown, at the time of their receipt by RBSC, these files grouped together, suggesting that they had been maintained as such throughout their active use.

This subseries contains polls, drafts, correspondence, public communications, clippings, and other related materials. The subseries contains the records of at least 4 individuals, and 2 positions. The majority of the records have been created by the Provincial Secretary (held by 3 different individuals over the course of the subseries), with a subset of records created by a campaign organizer - though other files suggest he may have been the Director of Communications at the time. Based on the contents of the files, the records appear to be created as follows:

• Files 392-17/18, and 392-20 to 394-02 created by Gerry Scott, Provincial Secretary
• Files 392-19, 394-03/09, and 395-30 to 398-02 created by Hans Brown, Provincial Secretary
• Files 394-10 to 395-29 appear to be created by Ron Johnson, campaign organizer and Director of Communications

  Materials in file 398-09 were found loose, unfiled with the polling materials created by Brian Gardiner, though their creator is uncertain.

Subseries consists of correspondence with other MLAs and MPs during Manson's time in government. This correspondence is both with British Columbia politicians as well as with those in Ottawa, and includes correspondence with well-known political figures such as William Lyon Mackenzie King and Duff Pattullo.

Manson grouped many of these files under headings such as "Members," "Cabinet Members," "Cabinet Ministers," "Members of Parliament," and "Members of Provincial Parliament."

Files in this subseries reflect the functions and activities of the Policy Review Committee (PRC) of the BC NDP, including its various policy subcommittees and committee liaisons.

The PRC functions as an aggregate body, composed of policy subcommittees formed by a motion of the Provincial Council to review and/or develop policies for the Party around a particular issue or topic. Policy subcommittees could be formed to respond to specific areas where a Party policy response was required immediately, or they could exist as standing subcommittees, as was often the case. Membership in any subcommittee is open to Party members in good standing, and committee membership is re-established on an annual basis. Each subcommittee has a Chair (or two Co-Chairs), and the Policy Review Committee is composed of all chairs of the policy subcommittees. Standing subcommittees have included: Advanced education, Agriculture, Economic, Education, Gay & Lesbian Rights, Health, Housing, Justice & legal affairs, Labour, Human Rights & Anti-racism, Social services, Tourism & cultural affairs, Transportation, and so forth. In many years, a representative of the Young New Democratics (YND) and a representative of the Women's Rights Committee (WRC) would also act as liaising members of the PRC. Policy subcommittees would review old policy, develop new policy as either resolutions for Convention or as Party policy statements, prepare background and/or discussion papers on relevant issues, and promote internal awareness and education about issues relevant to the Party. Finally, the PRC itself would often act in an advisory capacity to the Strategy & Election Planning Committee (SEPC) and the Elections Platform Committee (EPC) during the campaign period of of provincial elections.

Files in this subseries include materials from both the PRC itself, as well as records of its various subcommittees. Items covered include meeting minutes and agenda, memos and notices, background and discussion papers, media clippings, handwritten notes, drafts, public communications, policy documents and proposals, resolutions, and other related materials.

Subseries documents YWCA Metro Vancouver’s organizational planning and policies. Material arises from: task forces struck by the Board of Directors to investigate and recommend changes pertinent to a particular issue to policies, services, and programs; long range, strategic planning; the negotiation and implementation of policies from the YWCA of Canada and World YWCA; and YWCA Metro Vancouver’s Constitution and By-Laws.

Records consist of reports, strategic plans, meeting minutes, and other material arising from YWCA Metro Vancouver planning and updating its policies.

Subseries consists of minutes, correspondence, bylaws, publications, newspaper clippings related to the Point Roberts Historical Society’s administration as well as its community and cultural endeavours. It is notably composed of photographs taken of the Point Roberts Icelandic settlers which were displayed by the Icelandic Archives of British Columbia.

Series consists copies of published poems, drafts, manuscripts and unfinished poems. Original order (filed alphabetically by title) has been kept, with poems found elsewhere in Douglas' papers added in appropriate place. Order of poems kept in other groupings has been maintained.

The sub-series contains records related to Pocket Guide for Women Living with HIV/AIDS project. The pocket guide for women living with HIV was designed as a basic resource tool for women newly diagnosed with HIV. It was developed in consultation with HIV positive women, community AIDS workers, other social services providers and a literacy consultant. The result was a pocket sized (4 ½’ x 6”) folder with information sheets covering questions such as What is HIV? How does Hepatitis C affect HIV? PWN produced both a British Columbia edition, and a national edition in English and French.

Subseries consists of minutes, correspondence, reports and working papers of the Community Health Nurses’ Group’s Planning Committee, which was responsible for planning workshops, conferences, and related events.

Sub-series reflects Mary Bishop’s volunteerism as part of the Planned Parenthood Federation of Canada, where she was vice president between 1975–77, and also served on the board. In 1975, Bishop represented the PPFC at the United Nations International Women’s Year Tribune in Mexico.

Records in this sub-series include documentation of Bishop’s participation in several international conferences (such as itineraries, photographs, notes, and reports); newspaper clippings; committee documents; correspondence; reports; financial records and statements; and draft marketing and communication of the PPFC.

Sub-series reflects Mary Bishop’s volunteer involvement with the Planned Parenthood Association of British Columbia. Bishop was the President of this organization in 1971, 1972, and 1973, and she served on the board between 1966–1970. She also served on various committees with the PPABC.

Records contained in this sub-series include organizational records for the Planned Parenthood Association of British Columbia (such as financial records, minutes, annual reports, constitution and by-laws), as well as newspaper clippings, correspondence, and committee documents.

Subseries contains textual records pertaining to pj flemming's broadside poem titled <i>Santa Cowboy Down on Main Street</i>. The records include copies of the published broadside, as well as other records such as copies of correspondence between flemming and Lazara Press, invoices, and publishing information.

Images depict Beatrice Millar engaged in various product demonstrations, preparing for one or more television appearances, group photos of B.C. Hydro staff. The subseries also includes photographs used for the publications Millar worked on while at B.C. Hydro.

This group is comprised of photographs Douglas used to illustrate magazine and newspaper articles (primarily those articles written in the 1950s and 1960s). They are from various sources, including Douglas' own photos, prints obtained from archives and commercial source, and from correspondents. Some have typed captions attached with tape. All are black & white prints unless otherwise noted. Douglas' original groupings have been maintained; the photos are still for the most part in the original envelopes in which Douglas kept them.

Subseries consists of portraits of Hanne (and another woman, possibly her sister Elizabeth) taken by European photographers. At least five photographs of Hanne were taken by Grete Weissenstein (known professionally as Ingret) and at least two by Madame D’Ora, a famed Austrian fashion and portrait photographer. Those photographers responsible for the remaining pictures in this subseries are unknown.

Subseries consists of photographs, negatives, and associated materials (envelopes, metadata papers), most of which were created by Hanne. These images document aspects of her life in Europe prior to immigrating to the United States and eventually Canada. There are photographs from her travels in Austria, France, Italy, and other countries, which reveal an interest in hiking, landscape photography, and architecture. There are also many photographs taken of Hanne’s friends, family, and even an apparent boyfriend/lover with whom she travelled extensively in the 1920s and 1930s. After arriving in North America, Hanne’s photos capture her life with husband George Walker — their hiking trips, the home they made for themselves in Vancouver, the many dogs they owned and loved over the years, and their friends and family in North America. Hanne’s interest (not to mention her education as a young woman) in portrait photography is also reflected in this subseries through the many pictures taken of herself, George, and the members of several local families, including the Koerners. Hanne also photographed the many sculptures she produced while living in Vancouver — sculptures which are not part of this fonds and are likely impossible to ever locate/recover.

Sub-series consists of an album of photographs depicting a 1969 tour of British
Columbia Forest Products Limited’s Renfrew Logging Division, and some slides
of the company’s Crofton and Mackenzie operations.

Sub-series consists of photographs and an illustration pertaining to the Canadian Tugboat Company, Limited. Photographs related to crew members, launching ceremonies and christenings, tug and barge operations, tug damage, the tug powerplant, and vessel construction.

Subseries contains original photographs taken or collected by Philip J. Thomas. Thomas' photographs range in subject matter including research materials, folk song singers, and himself. The majority of the subseries are black and white negatives, while there are also colour photographs.
The arrangement of the subseries reflects that of the material at acquisition. Therefore, each file represents a binder, while each division within a file matches the division of photos within the binder.

Sub-series consists of prints and slides relating to Emily Carr, her work and house.

This grouping contains portraits of Douglas, family members and friends; most are larger than snapshot size.

Item is a black and white photograph of Hortensia Allende, widow of deposed Chilean President Salvador Allende, at a rally in Vancouver. Image shows Allende in oblique angle profile standing behind a lectern. Beside her, partially obscured, is an unidentified interpreter.

Sub-series consists of five albums containing photographs of and related to the Victoria Lumber and Manufacturing Company, Limited. Includes many photographs of its construction, equipment, employees, a photograph of a parade float used in its fiftieth jubilee celebrations in 1939, one album of photographs of the Chemainus, British Columbia plant, and one album of active logging camps near the Chemainus plant.

Series also contains a history of the Victoria Lumber and Manufacturing Company, Limited, which includes photographs of its founders, important executive board members, and maps of areas where the Company was active.

Subsubseries consists of six laser prints, five with a text describing the content. Subjects include “A Blood Transfusion”; “No. 22 Canadian General Hospital”; “Landing in Normandy: Nursing Sisters of No. 10 Canadian General Hospital”; “Members of the Field Surgical Unit —Lt. (N/S) Stephen (Rt.) and Lt (N/S) Hackland; “Mary C. Young and A. Kemp, Lt (N/S) of 12 Canadian General Hospital—in “full marching order”.

These photocopies were made by Kathleen Merken during the process of translating the diaries. Photocopying activity occurred primarily before 2004 with some additional copies being made in 2005. While the majority are full copies of each diary, there are some files that were created for thematic grouping of materials across years.

This series consists of approximately 500 prints and photos of immigrants and their institutions in U.S. and Canada. There is an index list with names, when available, that accompanies this series.

These albums include albums of Douglas' photographs dating from the early 1920s to the mid 1940s, as well as a family album and several albums of other people's photographs dating from 1916 to the 1930s.

Sub-series consists of the names, addresses and telephone numbers of union members.

Plans for offering a Doctorate in nursing grew out of the context that nursing is accountable for the development of the body of knowledge upon which its service to society is based. The first students were admitted to the School of Nursing in 1991.

Subseries consists of records related to the ongoing administration of the PhD program in the School of Nursing at UBC, including the integration of international and interdisciplinary students and the delivery of courses. Reports, memoranda, and minutes of the Planning and Coordinating Committees are included. The PhD Planning Committee was an ad hoc committee of the Graduate Curriculum Committee.
