Subseries consists of records related to Asian immigration to and settlement in North America. These records pertain predominantly to Chinese immigration and settlement in British Columbia, but also include records pertaining to other Asian diaspora as well as other regions of Canada and the United States. These records document early Asian immigration and settlement following the gold rush, such as the Chinese role in the construction of the transcontinental railway, where Chinese workers were assigned the most dangerous jobs, and anti-Asian sentiment in Canada. Other records in this subseries include materials related to Canadian immigration policy and multiculturalism in Canada, Chinese-language educational materials and children's books, Chinese business and residential directories, city directories for Vancouver and Victoria, and materials related to the Sino-Japanese War. As immigration in this context pertains both to first-generation immigrants as well as their families and descendants, records in this subseries also illustrate the Asian experience in Canada and highlight the development of Asian communities, including social, cultural, religious, political, sporting, and educational activities as well as the activities of organisations such as Chinese trade societies, the Chinese Benevolent Association, the Chinese Canadian Association, and the Chinese Nationalist League of Canada.

This subseries also contains an extensive collection of early photographs of Asian-Canadians and Asian-Americans. Some highlights include historical class photographs from Vancouver's Strathcona School, street scenes from the Vancouver, Victoria, and San Francisco Chinatowns, wedding portraits, and the 1915-1918 photograph album of Jue Fong, then a Chinese-American teenager, which offers rare candid photographs from that time period.

These records in this subseries are varied and include published monographs, pamphlets, directories, catalogues, magazines, maps, government reports, legislation, petitions, memoranda, meeting minutes, speeches, contracts, forms, certificates, licenses, tickets, passenger lists, immigration papers, taxes, invoices and receipts, donation books and fundraising materials, staff rosters, school workbooks, samples of Chinese calligraphy, newspaper clippings, posters and broadsides, newsletters, brochures and advertisements, correspondence, postcards, invitations and event programmes, restaurant menus, artefacts, ephemera, memorabilia, scrapbooks, and photographs, photo albums, and photographic negatives.

Subseries consists of correspondence, newspaper clippings and a diary relating to the signing of the Atlantic Accord. The correspondence includes dialogue between Minister Carney and Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, and Newfoundland’s Minister of Energy William Marshall. The sub-series also consists of a copy of the Atlantic Accord signed by Carney, Mulroney, Premier Brian Peckford, John Crosbie, Bill Marshall and others.

File contains textual records pertaining to Audrey Thomas' poem, <i>Intertidal Life: An Excerpt</i>. The records include drafts, correspondence, and copies of the published edition of the poem.

This series is composed of legal documents concerning court cases involving Chinese and Aboriginal people as both witnesses and defendants. The collection documents early relationships between colonial society and Chinese and Aboriginal individuals within a legal context in British Columbia and provides documentary evidence of those relationships including first-hand narratives from all participants. The documents reveal the way in which the 19th century justice system in British Columbia related to those people of Aboriginal and Chinese descent.

Consists of eighty-two files pertaining to charges against Aboriginal and Chinese individuals and all the supporting court documents. There are 340 documents from 1862 to 1891. Most of this material either passed through or was created in the court systems of the day resulting in sworn testimony giving first hand accounts of events. Some of the documents may have been interpreted into English by court interpreters. Judge Augustus Pemberton (1808-1891) was appointed the magistrate and commissioner of police for Vancouver Island by Governor Douglas in 1858 and served as a county court judge in Victoria from September 23rd, 1867 to January 14th, 1881. Pemberton oversaw all but fourteen of these charges.

Babel was a newsletter created and circulated within the graduate student community and contains written contributions in prose, poetry, and drawings. Sub-series consists of six editions of the newsletter, filed chronologically from September 1998 to March 1999.

This subseries is made up of Banana’s long running Banana Rag newsletter, which she began in 1971 to provide the general public with information about her activities as Victoria Town Fool. Over the years, it became a means for her to provide information about her mail art activities, and the newsletter itself became a central part of her network presence. It also provided subscribers with information about other mail art opportunities, trends, or exhibitions.

This subseries contains copies of the newsletters, as well as an inventory of the newsletters, some original markups and pasteups, and information about subscribers.

Subseries originates with Banana’s earliest performance art while she was Victoria’s Town Fool. It consists of various certificates in bananology (including bachelors and masters degrees) which Anna would give out to individuals who had “Gone Bananas”, often after providing Anna with a piece of Banana paraphernalia or a Banana-related fact or story. This activity often took place within the context of her mail art actions, where she would mail the certificates back to networkers who had provided her with banana-related mail. However, it began while she was still Town Fool, prior to or concurrent with her entry into the mail art network.

The subseries consists almost entirely of various certificates, as well as letters to correspondents.

The subseries contains newspaper clippings, pamphlets, official correspondence, bulletins and other ephemera collected by Barry Sharbo, who was the spokesperson for the breakaway movement from IBEW Local 213 in 1967 which would eventually become the Canadian Union of Electrical Workers (CEW/CEWU/UE). Also contains a copy of the CEW's constitution and a proof copy of the first issue of Live Wire, the CEW's newspaper.

Subseries contains textual records related to Shelia Baxter's play titled <i>Death in a Dumpster: A Passion Play for the Homeless</i>. These records include correspondence, reviews and promotions of <i>Death in a Dumpster</i>, as well as records related to the production of the work. The file also contains copies of promotional material for other events happening in the Downtown Eastside. The photographs contained in this subseries are images featured in the <i>Death in a Dumpster</i> publication.

Sub-series contains materials from various conventions attended by Pratt, where she served as debate moderator, session chair and on balloting committees. Records also related to Pratt’s role on the Provincial Council 2000-2001 and her involvement in several campaigns. Sub-series documents Patrice Pratt’s time as President of the BCNDP. She took on this role in November 1992 and finished her term in February 1996. Records relate to various policies, actions and issues addressed by the Provincial Government during this time, including land use and land claims decisions, environmental resources and industries, Indigenous affairs, treaty negotiations, women’s equity, gender parity, youth, multiculturalism, Party membership, and human rights. Materials created and collected from the Nanaimo Commonwealth Holdings Society, Wager investigations and Braaten v. BCNDP also appear in the sub-series. Subseries includes Victoria This Week issues from between 1991 and 1996. Reports, communications, and other materials pertaining to both the Provincial (1993-1996) and Federal NDP (1993-1995) Renewal Commissions are represented in the sub-series. Record types include newspaper clippings, publications, convention materials, committee agendas and minutes, correspondence, and reference material, notes, policies, handbooks, memorandums and communications.

Subseries consists of Beatrice Millar's index cards, originally in rolling indexes, and used in the course of her work at the B.C. Hydro Home Services Centre. Includes contact information for individuals and organizations, househould cleaning and laundry tips, food procurement and food preservation advice, and recipes.

Sub-series consist of the proposal and outline, research, chapter drafts, the final proof, publicity and correspondence with Random House Publishing all pertaining to Brown’s autobiography.

Anna Banana set this subseries aside in two boxes titled “Best Examples of How Mail Art Evolved,” evidently showing the ways that mail art expanded from its initial scope in the 1960s and 1970s. The bulk of the items in this subseries are dated after the year 2000, detailing some of the latest innovations in the mail art network, as well as various compendiums or encyclopedias of mail artists and their work.

The subseries contains mostly books about mail art, as well as some newspapers, mail art projects, zines, posters and other published material.

Subseries contains textual records pertaining to Cuthand's works including: <i>Horse Dance to Emerald Mountain</i>, <i>Voices in the Waterfall</i> and <i>Crossing the Lake</i>. Records include drafts and manuscripts, correspondence, layouts, and other publishing information about Cuthand's works.

A business meeting was held in conjunction with each biennial institute to deal with issues affecting the membership.

Subseries consists of fifteen photo albums relating to the 1st to the 13th and 15th Biennial and 4th and 10th National conferences hosted by B.C. Operating Room Nursing Group. Photographs have been removed from the albums and individually described except for those in a peel and stick album for the 1974 meeting.

As the General Manager of the UBC Press from the early 1970s to 1990, Bill C.Y. Li's initial responsibilities for the production process were eventually superseded by competencies in the financial and business-oriented offices of the UBC Press.

Correspondence sub-series consists of drafts of letters and memorandum regarding departmental communication, preparation memos for meetings and seminars, book construction, royalty payments, sales reports, financial support, and topics about the production and layout of material to be published.

This committee was formed at the 1991 AGM to begin collecting information and pictures of prominent BC nurses.

Sub-series consists of the postscript to Doyle's "Rise and Decline of the Pacific Salmon Fisheries," which contains an outline of his involvement in the fisheries. Also included are biographical sketches, written by Doyle, of Marshall Martin English, Sir Richard McBride, Woo Shou, and Tascha Machida, all men he knew while in business in British Columbia.

This series consists of research, photographs, curriculum vitae, and correspondence on individuals considered for the Woodward Memorial Room memorials.

Subseries consists of records on the Birth Weight Project. Ward researched tax assessment rolls, ledgers, in-patient and out-patient records, etc., for the following cities: Boston, Dublin, Edinburgh, Vienna, and Montreal. Separate studies were also conducted on the cities of Utrecht and Bologna. Ward’s research on the Birth/Newborn Weight Project was the foundation for the book, Birth Weight and Economic Growth: Women’s Living Standards in the Industrializing West. The code book for the Utrecht birth weight database (file 7-5a) was added in December 2014. NOTE: The Birth Weight Project records on Bologna are expected in a future accrual.

Subseries consists of game boards and draft game boards for three board games: "Cheat,"; "Hugger-Mugger," and an untitled geographic board game. The game boards are in oversize boxes.

Material consists of meeting minutes that detail the meeting agenda, a summary of proceedings, a list of attendees, financial reports, president reports, economic reports, management reports, and appointment of new members and members to committees.

Sub-series consists of meeting minutes that outline the attendees, reports and recommendations from various committees, dates of other meetings relating to the PMBC, discussion concerning the promotion of western softwood plywood, and budget discussions.

Subseries contains textual records related to Marusya Bociurkiw's work of poetry titled <i>Halfway to the East</i>. These records include drafts of the work, as well as copies of correspondence and the contract between Bociurkiw and Lazara Press. Other records include other copies of correspondence related to the work, reviews and promotions of <i>Halfway</i> and other poems by Bociurkiw, and records related to the production of the work. The subseries also contains a copy of Bociurkiw's poem "Radio Nights," both in English and in German.

Subseries contains copies of books Thomas found during his research which he then had bound. The majority of books deal with folk music, while others focus on labour disputes in British Columbia. Note that this series does not include <I>Songs of the Pacific Northwest</I>. Material includes proofs, copies, and notes. Subseries is arranged alphabetically according to book title.

Sub-series contains background research for and drafts of den Hertog’s book chapter “Reconciling Our Origins, Facing Our Future” published in the book “English Canada Speaks Out”. The chapter addresses the constitutional debate taking place in Canada in the late 80s and early 90s from the point of view of an English-speaking Canadian. den Hertog addresses three main issues – how important the constitutional question was at the time, the lack of familiarity with the political, legal and economic “contracts” that Canada had lived under since confederation, and the lack of agreement on the purpose of constitutional change.
Records include associated correspondence and research materials – reports, newspaper clippings, etc.

This series contains over 20 books on Swedish culture, history, and emigration and immigration to North America. Some of the books are in English while the others are in Swedish. A book index is available.

Subseries was created between the late 1960s and 2016, and is made up of collected books. These include published books about various artists, art movements, and collections of essays, as well as artist books, some chap books, self published books of poetry and other small edition books. There is no clear focus to the collection, although mail art, performance art, artist books, and concrete poetry make up a significant portion.
