Nisga’a 2000: Calder v. Attorney General British Columbia and Campbell v. Nisga’a Tribal Council

Series consists of clippings, notes and legal documents related to the Calder v. Attorney General British Columbia land rights case heard in the Supreme Court of BC in 1969, the BC Court of Appeal in 1970 and the Supreme Court of Canada in 1973. It also contains records related to Campbell v. Nisga’a Tribal Council case heard in 2000, which immediately followed the signing of the Nisga’a by the Nisga’a Tribal Council, Canada and British Columbia in 2000.

Renaerts v. Vancouver General Hospital

Series consists of legal documents, clippings and notes related to the malpractice suit on behalf of Ximena Renaerts, who had suffered brain damage when she was born, heard in the Supreme Court of British Columbia in 1998.

FIDH mission files

Series consists of correspondence, financial statements and expense reports, pamphlets, memos, reports, clippings, and handwritten notes. Documents relate to a mission to Chile in 1997 conducted by Berger with Claude Katz, a Parisian lawyer, under the auspices of the Federation Internationale des Droits de l'Homme (FIDH). The mission was to consider the impact of a dam proposed in southern Chile, south of the Bio-Bio River. Except where otherwise noted, file names been retained and the arrangement reflects the creator's original order.

Federation of BC Writers/BC Caucus of Writers Union of Canada.

This series consists of the correspondence, minutes of meeting and newsletters of both the Writers’ Union and the BC Federation of Writers. Drabek was a floating representative to the National Council of the Writers’ Union of Canada and president and chairman of the Federation of BC Writers in the late 1980s. Material includes the Federation’s application for a license to form a new radio station, cultural plans for Vancouver, plans for a permanent workspace in Vancouver for writers, workshop information, grant applications and correspondence regarding a proposed schools program in which writers planned to visit school children to talk about writing. Annual general meeting material, liaison activity with other writers’ groups, as well as budget information is included.

Subject files related to party politics

Series consists of subject files related to Berger’s leadership of the New Democratic Party (NDP) of British Columbia and electoral campaign of 1969, arranged by exisiting file classification numbers, together with several scrapbooks and files containing press clippings, arranged chronolgically, related to Berger’s political life and campaigns from 1960 to 1969, as NDP Member of the House of Commons for Vancouver-Burrard in 1962, Member of the British Columbia Legislative Assembly for Vancouver-Burrard in 1966-1967, and NDP leader in 1969.

The series is split up into sub series according to form, which include; Newspaper sub series which includes "Report from Ottawa" and letters-to-the editor (1968-1997), book reviews (1970-1981) and speeches (1968-1976). The speeches sub series covers a range of topics but focuses on the different competencies in which Howard acted, thus writing is featured, but also subjects like tax reform are also represented . Howard also wrote speeches for others (1974-1990) which include speeches made for Liberal Party politicians such as, Honourable Marc Lalonde (Minister of Health and Welfare, 1973), and John Dyck (Liberal candidate for Okanagan Boundary).

Literary work and related materials

The series consists of material related to Blanche Howard’s writing career between 1968-2013. Materials include Howard’s fiction and non-fiction writings in various editorial and publication stages; correspondence regarding and related to her writing projects; contracts, agreements, and royalty or revenue statements; biographical, publicity, and promotional materials; research materials; notes and various collected ephemera. Writings include primarily typed and computer-generated manuscripts of novels and short stories; scripts of plays; and texts of non-fiction writings, including political articles written during Bruce Howard’s tenure as a Member of Parliament, letters-to-the-editor of newspapers in Ontario and British Columbia, and various essays and speeches. Many of these writings include hand-written annotations. Also included are project proposals, publications proofs, clippings or photocopies of published works, as well as outlines and notes regarding characters, plot, structure, and more. Correspondence in the series consists of email and traditional correspondence regarding writing projects between Howard and numerous publishers, editors, and theatre companies; literary agents; awards committees; and colleagues, friends, and family, among others. This correspondence includes letters accompanying manuscript submissions; acceptance and rejection letters; correspondence regarding permissions and publication; and endorsements and comments, among other correspondence. Biographical, publicity, and promotional materials include biographies and curricula vitae; printouts of online reviews; newspaper and magazine clippings; texts of remarks delivered during promotional talks or reading events; reader’s guides; and press releases, and other materials. Various collected ephemera includes clippings and other materials used for background research, flyers, play programs, certificates of appreciation, book catalogues, course brochures, literary competition guidelines, and photographs.

In addition to the records directly related to Howard’s writing career, the series also contains records related to more tangential or personal activities, such as her participation in a book club or her adjudication of the 2010 Saskatchewan Book Awards.

Handwritten final drafts of poems

Series consists of 11 notebooks containing handwritten final drafts of poems. There are few corrections or annotations in these notebooks. This series also includes presentation copies of poems in volumes made of boards with silk padded covers and cardboard cases. One volume is untitled and within it, each poem is handwritten in ink facing Japanese prints. Two presentation copies of Fancy Free, 1938, are included in this series. The second version has a typed frontispiece: "Of this edition of Fancy Free by Carol Coates, two hundred and fifty copies only have been printed. This Chap-book is a product of the Ryerson Press, Toronto, Canada, 1939."
Accrual adds to the existing series four notebooks of handwritten final drafts of poems. Enumerated Book II through Book V, each volume is begun with a title page giving the dates of the poems and sometimes referring to other volumes containing typed or draft versions.

Typed copy of lecture

Series consists of one lecture entitled "The Art of Flower Arrangement" given to the University Women's Club of Toronto on 19 Apr. 1940. It presents the symbolism and Zen Buddhist principles of Japanese flower arrangement.

Diaries of plays and books

Series consists of reviews of plays attended and books read. Quotations and bibliographic references are given for the book reviews. These notebooks include notes of events and miscellaneous jottings.

Series consists of a ring-bound folder containing miscellaneous notes, letters, photographs, newspaper clippings and Christmas cards pasted onto white paper. Many of the items are dated 1943-1945.

Sedgewick to Miss Langridge regarding Carol Coates' poetry, a single title page of a work dated 1949, and a publicity sheet for Invitation to Mood issued by The Ryerson Press in 1949.

Manuscripts and published works

Series consists of manuscripts and published works of an anthropological nature by Hill-Tout, including works pertaining to the native people of British Columbia and a partial manuscript of Man and his ancestors in the light of organic evolution.

Administration Records

Series consists of membership rosters, mailing and contact lists, committee rosters, minutes of meetings, and other materials reflecting day-to-day operations of C.D.C. organizers and volunteers. Series also contains press releases and other publicity materials issued by C.D.C., blank letterhead, a register of letters received, and some correspondence.

Correspondence

Series consists of letters sent and received, pertaining to topics including fundraising, membership, liaising with other organizations, and various Canadian provincial and federal government offices. Correspondents include sponsors, contributing members, members of the BC and Federal Canadian governments, members of the Chilean government (frequently Pinochet himself and various Ministers), the United Nations (General Assembly), various BC and international labour unions, and other activist groups concerned with human rights and political issues in Latin America. Creator classified correspondence according to reception or dispatch, and, to some extent, chronologically.

Archives Administration

Series covers the internal workings of the Archives Collective, especially the activities of James Thomas. Contents are mostly related to various archival or historical networks that the Collective was a part of, or correspondence dedicated to collecting materials from organization and subsequently housing the collected materials. Series contains letters, newsletters, lists of organizations, and donation receipts.

Historical controversies

Series consists of correspondence, newspaper clippings and an extensive personal note relating to two historical controversial published histories of the ILWU’s activities in the 1930s. One of these publications was the 1966 book Tough Timber written by Myrtle Bergren. The other controversy involves a 1962 article published in The Fisherman, the United Fisherman and Allied Worker Union’s newspaper.

Outreach and promotion

Series encompasses material created as YWCA Metro Vancouver conducts activities to gain public awareness and drive community engagement. Activities represented include communications, product marketing, event planning, and compiling and presenting YWCA Metro Vancouver histories.

Series contains photograph albums of various railways, elevators, and bridges associated with Swan's career as an engineer. Series also holds two other photographs outside of albums containing Swan and his associates and military Battalion.

Series consists of photographs and other material maintained by YWCA Metro Vancouver in a separate physical arrangement from its other records. The series features: staff, volunteers, members, and clients participating in YWCA services, programming, and events; headshots and profiles of YWCA personnel; the interiors, exteriors, and amenities of YWCA buildings and facilities; slide presentations of YWCA images; and compilations of photographs, both original and copies, for YWCA Metro Vancouver history research. Clearwater Timber Company records

Series consists of a volume of land statistics, correspondence, photographs, press clippings financial summaries, maps, and promotional materials (internal and external to the company) for both Clearwater Timber Company and its successor, Potlatch Forests Incorporated (PFI).

White River Lumber Company records

Series consists of legal records and miscellanea related to the White River Lumber Co. Legal records include permits, memoranda of agreement, tie notices, and land contracts pertaining to the company’s logging rights. Miscellanea include maps (mostly road maps of Wisconsin and Minnesota), press clippings regarding the company, and photographs.

Correspondence

Series consists of the Section Correspondence of the IRE: it includes letters sent and received by the Secretary, as well as invitations, membership lists, policy statements, lists of the Boarding directors elected each year and of the IRE executive members. Moreover series contains all the correspondence received from the Headquarter in New York. Sporadically copies of the Newsletter are enclosed as attachments to the correspondence.

Meetings Reports

Series contains the section duplicate of its meeting reports: they are almost all provided in the form that the IRE Headquarters in New York provided for that purpose. According to the IRE Headquarter, at least five Section meetings had to be held each year: the report of these meetings had to be done by the section in two copies so that one could be mailed to the Secretary of the IRE in New York, while the duplicate had to be retained in the files of the Section.

Books

Series consists of time books, journals, coupon ticket books, information books (activity logs), pay logs, and pilot house log books. There are also notices, agreements, rule and regulations, and applications, and material concerning railway development, equipment, fitting and service profiles. In addition, there is a copy of The Quebec Central Railway Act and Slater’s (confidential) Telegraphic Code. The material is associated with several different railway companies, Victoria R & N.C., the Kettle Valley Railway and the Canadian Pacific Railway, and many different areas such as Penticton, Okanagan Landing, York, S. Britain, Vancouver and Victoria.
