The records of the Department of Athletics and Recreation fonds are representative of the athletics side of the Department of Athletics and Recreation. While athletics and recreation fall under the same department, in practice, they operate independently of one another. Their textual records are also physically held at separate locations. Surviving records in the Department of Athletics and Recreation fonds are broadly representative of the achievements of UBC athletes and teams. Far less extensive, are the types of administrative documents produced or accumulated in the course of the day-to-day business of the department. Examples of records present in the fonds include programs, historical research, scrapbooks, newspaper clippings, team rosters, scoresheets, profile write-ups, yearbooks, media guides, correspondence, agendas, training schedules, coaching handbooks, travel itineraries, and ephemera.

The fonds consists of records made and received by Laurenda Daniells in her professional and personal life. The fonds documents her involvement and participation in conferences, and various professional archival associations, such as ACA, SAA, ARMA, etc., and Vancouver Historical Society. Also included are records of Laurenda’s time with the UBC’s Faculty Association and her research on university archives policy and copyright. The fonds contain incoming and outgoing correspondence to family, friends, and colleagues from other organizations. Textual records are memorandums, meeting agendas and minutes, reports, programmes, proposals, notes, drafts, papers, proposals, surveys, newspapers, a speech by Daniells, correspondence, and photographs.

Fonds consists of scrapbooks on football, baseball and golf clippings from newspapers and sports periodicals, some of Gnup's game strategies, his writings on sports philosophy, and a set of clippings of his column in The Courier, "Gnupermania." Fonds includes guest lists, correspondence, and other material relating to the annual Pigskin Party thrown by Gnup. Fonds also includes personal correspondence and professional correspondence concerning Gnup's responsibilities as coach of the UBC Thunderbirds. Fonds consists of textual records and photographs and includes legal documents, correspondence, statements of account, and newspaper clippings. The photographs show "The Gables" and are attached to a sheet of cardboard.

Fonds consists of newspaper clippings about Homecoming 1961, and programmes documenting 1965 graduating class events and activities.

The fonds consists of correspondence, subject files and pamphlets arising from Buck's various interests (1920-1950). Buck organized most of his papers into subject files relating to his activities and arranged them in alphabetical order. The files, in many instances, contain correspondence, reports and memos. The fonds also includes maps, plans, and posters, as well as photographs.

The fonds consists of one album of photographs taken by Sage between September 1945 and August 1946 at a relocation camp near Tashme, B.C. where she was a social worker. The photographs include general views of the scenery, individuals and groups and some smaller buildings. In addition to the camp shots, there are also pictures of Japanese Canadians preparing for relocation. The album also includes a newspaper clipping, post card and a typescript article about the Tashme Camp. The fonds also includes a small body of correspondence written by Margaret Sage to her parents Walter and Nelda Sage and to her brother Donald (1945/46).
