Fonds consists of documentation of the “Racism: Breaking the Silence” workshops, organized by the UBC Multicultural Liaison Office and its Director, Dr. Joan Anderson. Included are recommendations arising from the first workshop (March 1993), President Strangway’s keynote address at the second workshop (June 1993) and Dr. Anderson’s response.

On November 24 and 25, 1997, student protests occurred on the University of British Columbia’s Vancouver campus regarding the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meetings, leading to a violent crackdown by police. This series contains materials related to David Breen’s involvement with the protests, including complaints filed regarding excessive force by police, the documents related to the official RCMP Complaints Commission, the hearings, and the final report. Also included are news articles from the Vancouver Sun and Ubyssey covering the issue. Materials are arranged by subject and then chronologically.
Committees and Conferences series
The series consists of records documenting Laurenda Daniells’ participation in various archival and records management conferences. Besides being a delegate, Laurenda was also a Board member or committee member of many professional associations, such as ABCA, ACA, Northwest Archivists Group, B.C. Archivists Group, ARMA, Canadian Historical Association, UBCLA, etc. Materials include meeting agendas, memorandums, correspondences, notes, reports, proposals, conference programs and proceedings, newspapers, and newsletters with annotations. AABC, ABCA, and BCAC materials include minutes and programs, previous constitutions, a speech by Daniels, and conference correspondence. Files were re-arranged alphabetically by the associations’ names and then chronologically.
Vancouver Historical Society series
The series consists of records documenting Laurenda Daniells’ activities as the Principal Co-investigator of the Vancouver Centennial Bibliography Project by the Vancouver Historical Society. Materials include correspondence, applications, proposals, notes, reports, financial reports, budgets, meeting agendas and minutes.
Fonds consists mainly of correspondence between Ellen Jaffe and Jane Rule, written between 1996 and 2001. The first series follows a letter Jaffe wrote to Rule in appreciation of the TVO film Fiction and Other Truths about her life and work. The rest of the letters deal with Jaffe asking to use quotes from the film in her book Writing Your Way and her visiting Rule on Galiano Island in 2001 to give her a copy of the book. The folder also includes a copy of Jaffe’s book, with the quotes from Jane Rule bookmarked.
