Personal series

Series includes biographical information about John Hunter, including lists of awards, résumé, obituaries, early rejection letters, cartoons, and his undergraduate thesis.

Professional Life series

The series includes correspondence relating to articles exchanged for editing between colleagues and advisees; applications for numerous Research Grants which summarize his various ongoing research projects, presentations that he made; and several Curriculum Vitae from 1966-1992.

Poetry series

This series consists of drafts, correspondence, and originals, including his major poetic opus “Double Star and Other Verses.”

Publications series

Series consists of materials related to such publications as The Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules and Public Libraries in British Columbia by Ross Vainstein.

Photographs series

This series contains photographs related to libraries and library conferences, including photographs of patrons using libraries and meetings and posters at conferences. All photographs have been removed from folders 3-08 and are stored separately. Some photographs have notes on the back that may indicate their intention to be published in books.

Research material & notes subseries

Research notes, press clippings, printouts of referential (encyclopedic) web pages, traditional and email correspondence, journal articles, and ephemera (playbills, theatre brochures etc.). It also includes some maps from Grace’s research trips. Material is grouped into sections: bibliographic references, biographical/genealogical, research notes by archival institutions, notes by theatre, and notes by-product. Malcolm Lowry series

Material related to Grace’s work on Malcolm Lowry. Includes research materials, correspondence, copies of Lowry’s writings and letters, photographs, publications, major research papers, and ephemera.

Tom Thompson series

Materials related to the writing and publication of Inventing Tom Thompson (2004), edited by Dr. Grace. Includes: correspondence, research materials, notes, lecture materials, photographs, and ephemera.

On the Art of Being Canadian series

Materials related to the writing and publishing of On the Art of Being Canadian (2009). Includes annotated research materials, correspondence, publishing permissions, photographs, clippings, and ephemera.

Lowry material subseries

Photographic material from Lowry-related events and images from the production of Grace’s volumes of Lowry’s letters. Digital copies of the Lowry letters and Grace’s works are included on floppy disk .

David Breen fonds

The fonds consists of records about Dr. Breen’s precedent-setting suit against Hancock House Publishing and Edwin Gould for copyright infringement of his doctoral thesis. These documents include court filings, notes, and rulings related to the lawsuit. The fonds also consist of records and materials related to the Asian-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) protests of 1997, including Dr. Breen’s involvement, with both formal and informal documentation and complaints filed with the commission.

Includes correspondence between David Breen and his legal counsel, his notes on these conversations, and correspondences between David Breen’s legal counsel and the defendants. Materials are arranged chronologically.

George Bulhak fonds

Fonds consists of the handwritten manuscript for George Bulhak’s book U.B.C. Panorama, published in 1945. Included are photographs and sketches by Bulhak intended for inclusion in the book and U.B.C. President N.A.M. MacKenzie’s handwritten “Foreword.” The manuscript was written in what was originally a bound ledger – isolated ledger entries can be found on the otherwise blank back pages, indicating that it may have been left as surplus at Burhak’s place of employment when he used it for his manuscript.

The series consists of records documenting Laurenda Daniells’ role as a UBC’s Faculty Association Executive member. Materials include papers, drafts, notes and correspondence.

Copyright in Institutions series

The series consists of records documenting Laurenda Daniells’ activities as a member of the Copyright Committee for both the Association of Canadian Archivists and the Archives Section of the Canadian Historical Association. Teaching and Work Records series

Research Materials series

Series consists of materials collected, created, or otherwise acquired by Robert McDonald as part of his research activities and includes newspaper clippings and other published items, copies of articles annotated by McDonald, index cards with notes and citations, written notes, correspondence, and audio recordings of interviews and speeches. It is organized into the following sub-series: Subject Files, Henry Bell-Irving Biography, Haig-Brown / Uphill, Vancouver 1891 Census printouts, Published sources, Index Cards and Sound recordings. The Published sources and Index Cards sub-series consist of selections from among all such materials acquired by McDonald throughout his professional career, retained primarily to help illustrate his research process.

Awards series

This small series consists of curriculum vitae, certificates of recognition, correspondence regarding the visiting Seagram Chair and contracts, letters, award notifications and sales reports for Making Vancouver. The object included is the UBC Killam Teaching Prize Award.

Writings

Series consists of various publications authored by Esther Paulson on various aspects of nursing and nursing history. Series is divided into two subseries: Publications by Paulson and Other writings by Paulson.

Other writings by Paulson

Subseries consists of articles, reports, correspondence and lectures on nursing. Many relate to tuberculosis. Most have not been published. Includes articles and reports regarding the affiliation course in tuberculosis nursing developed by Paulson and other members of the Vancouver Unit of the Division of Tuberculosis Control.
