The fonds consists of records pertaining to Starkins’ work with the Vancouver American Exiles Association, research materials and a manuscript of his 1984 book Who Killed Janet Smith?, audio/visual materials for Salt of the Earth (a BC History Films film), records related to attempts to have himself reclassified by the US Military (he was a draft dodger during the Vietnam War), and various correspondence and notes. The fonds contains: correspondence both personal and for the Vancouver American Exiles Association, Vancouver American Exiles Association constitution and financial records, copies and clippings of newspaper articles (mostly research on the Janet Smith murder case), a full manuscript of Who Killed Janet Smith?, transcripts, and audio and video tapes of interviews for the BC Historical Films film Salt of the Earth.
