Lecture Materials series

Series consists of textual materials created or acquired by Fritz Lehmann in the course of his teaching duties. The materials include research notes, lecture materials, course hand-outs, copies of research papers written by students, and newspaper and magazine clippings. It is arranged in the following sub-series: General, Medieval India / Mughal Empire, British India / India Since 1947, India / South Asia, East Asia, Islam, Africa, and Modernization (History 202). These sub-series largely reflect the original order in which the fonds was acquired.

Course Materials series

Series consists of textual materials used by Lehmann in developing and teaching his courses, including lecture materials, course hand-outs, and papers written by students. The files are arranged by course number.

Publications series

The series consists of copies of Lehmann's published articles in manuscript form and as journal clippings or off-prints. The files are arranged alphabetically by article title.

Letters series

Series consists of copies of correspondence received by the Faris Committee from various individuals and organizations, arranged alphabetically by the author.

Miscellaneous series

Series consists of correspondence, reports, and other documents relevant to the Faris Committee's investigations and is arranged alphabetically by author and title.

Publications series

This series consists of published reports, conference proceedings, articles, books and book reviews covering a variety of social topics and issues. These topics include rural development, rural families, youth and employment, and social welfare.

Committees series

This series consists of reports, manuals and correspondence thanking Nicholls for serving on or participating in a variety of local, provincial and federal committees. The photograph in the series is a black & white group picture of the Canadian Funds and Councils Division of the Canadian Welfare Council [1960-1970].

Unpublished Works series

Series consists of materials documenting Marchak's writing and unpublished work and includes correspondence, written notes, typescripts, reports, and newspaper and magazine clippings. It is arranged in these sub-series: Papers and Speeches, Unpublished Briefs, Research Proposals, and Miscellaneous Unpublished Papers. Within each sub-series, the records have been retained in their original order.

Political Science and Mahmoodi/Dutton Affairs series

Series consists of materials documenting Marchak's involvement as UBC Dean of Arts in two major public controversies. Allegations by students of systemic racism and sexism in the Department of Political Science and allegations of sexual harassment against a prominent psychology professor by one of his graduate students. The series includes correspondence, reports, written notes, and clippings. It is arranged in two sub-series: Political Science Department and Mahmoodi/Dutton Case. The records are arranged in chronological order.

Barbara Schrodt Thesis series

Series contains Barbara Schrodt's Ph.D. thesis and reports, correspondence, interviews, photographs, publications, newspaper clippings, and other research materials relating to her thesis.

School Work series

Series includes schoolwork completed by Richard Splane at McMaster University, the University of Toronto, and the London School of Economics. Records include correspondence, transcripts, graduate school applications, essays, and notes.

Bibliographic series

Series consists of descriptions of various books and includes the title, author, publisher, year of publication and other information. The files are arranged by author.

Colbeck Materials – Student Work series

Series consists of bibliographic descriptions for the Colbeck Collection created by Library Science class 662 for Professor Stokes. The files are arranged by student last name, author name or when the creator or student name is not known by the original folder name.

Agreements series

Series consists of agreements between UBC and the companies awarded projects for constructing various campus buildings and facilities. Series arranged in chronological order.

Research series

Series consists of reports, studies and papers by Duff and others, as well as government publications and policies related to First Nations land claims, treaties and other matters.

Minutes series

Series consists of minutes, correspondence, and related papers from Department of Pathology staff meetings, the Curriculum Committee of the Faculty of Medicine, and the Medical Dental Advisory Board. Other committees, from within and outside the Department, are also represented.

Research series

Series consists of background research on corporations and focuses mainly on various corporate institutions and ethical issues arising from corporations' dominance and practice. In addition, this series includes numerous magazine articles, newspaper clippings, and corporate ephemera.

Post-Production series

Series consists of tape indexes used by the production team to document footage, press material of the film's release and awards, samples of promotional materials, and information relating to the making of The Corporation DVD. The editing process can be accessed and viewed separately.

Biographical Information series

Series consists of CVs, biographical sketches, awards, certificates, copies of Quastel's will, and Quastel's day books. In addition, this series contains one subseries: Quastel Project.

Correspondence series

Series consists of personal and professional correspondence to and from Quastel, which have generally been subdivided by a decade or specifically by year from 1950-1969.

Presentations and Lectures series

Series consists of lecture notes, conference papers and presentations created by Quastel. Many of the topics are similar to those seen in the publication series.

Hospitals series

Series contains various reports, correspondence, and research from Quastel's stay in Cardiff and Montreal. This series contains two sub-series: Cardiff and Montreal General Hospital.

Photographs series

Series consists of photographs of Juda Quastel with colleagues from Cardiff, England, and the Montreal General Hospital laboratory, his 1966 visit to India and Jerusalem, as well as photographs of his family.

Glass slides series

Series consists of 322 glass slides (i.e. charts, equations, and graphs), possibly for lecturing purposes.

Correspondence series

Series consists of incoming and outgoing letters to W.H. Mathews and letters relating to his employment, academic career and committee work.

Uranium research series

Series consists of hand-written notes; published and unpublished materials; various correspondence; various data, correspondence, memos/notices associated with the BC Royal Commission of Inquiry (Health and Environmental Protection: Uranium mining); an assortment of notices, memos, and memorandum related to uranium; permit information, and maps.

BC Power Commission series

Series consists of correspondence, essays, maps, diagrams, and articles related to dam sites in the Homathko region, which are connected to the Homathko power project.

Maps series

Series consists of a selection of maps removed from a much more extensive collection of approximately 150 maps. These maps pertain to the geographic regions of British Columbia, Alberta, and the Yukon. They include the following map series: B.C. Department of Lands maps, Department of Mines, Geological Survey maps, and Soil maps of British Columbia. Other maps include glacier and hand-drawn maps. The Pre-emptor and Degree map series have been removed from the Mathews fonds, and their description and location are available at UBC Rare Books and Special Collections.

Field Notes series

Series consists of notebooks compiled by W.H. Mathews and his assistants during a geological survey of the Peace River region for the BC Department of Mines. Two of the notebooks were gathered by Mathews, one by J. Fyles, and one by Walter Thomson.

UBC Football Programs series

Twenty-two UBC Football programs make up this series and are dated between 1951-1992. On October 20, 1951, the football program included photographs of Prince Phillip and Queen Elizabeth at their first Canadian Football game. The file also contains an article by Athletics Historian Fred Hume on that visit and a biography of Dr. Bob Hindmarch. Please see the finding aid for a list of programs.

Career Records series

The series consists of records relating to Granirer’s teaching career. This series includes a Curriculum Vitae, US immigration papers, correspondence and employment notices. Also present are student evaluations of Granirer’s classes.

Published Papers series

This series contains published journal papers by Granirer. In addition, the series comprises paper corrections, correspondence, and work with Anthony Lau, including math propositions and a notebook.

Lectures and Conferences series

Granirer presented lectures on Algebra around the world. This series contains his lecture notes and acetates on his talks in Europe, North America, South America and Asia. There are also photographs of Granirer and attendees of these conferences, including his final conference at UBC in 1997.
