Photographs

Textual records include two programs for the 1994 Member Recognition Awards with supporting documentation. Photographs are of Lois Blais along with mostly unidentified people at formal and social occasions. Most are on the occasion of her receiving the 1994 Recognition Award and a tea. Others are taken on her November 28, 1996 graduation from a Masters in Nursing program at UBC.

Photographs

Series consists of textual records, photographs and other graphic material relating to personal life and career of Muriel Upshall. A selection of non-nursing subject matter have been retained. Textual files contain identification information for photographs.

Posters and Clippings

Series consists of two posters idealizing the nursing profession and one newspaper clipping. “Overseas Uniform of Red Cross and Canteen Maid.” Seattle Post-Intelligencer, dated September 1, 1918.

Presentations by Bernadet Ratsoy

Series consists of notes for presentations to the Royal Commission on Economic Union and Development (McDonald Commission) September 7, 1983 on Don McDonnell, with a letter of thanks from him (2004), and on a history of St. Paul's Hospital.

Professional Career

Series consists of correspondence pertaining to Richmond’s role as Director of Educational Resources at the RJH and to her consulting work for the University of Victoria's nursing program; a copy of her curriculum vitae; teaching materials developed while serving as assistant professor at McGill University; and photocopies of plaques received.

Public Health Nursing

Series consists of records relating to Campbell Jackson's work as a Public Health Nurse in the interior of British Columbia (Kamloops-Lilooet-Ashcroft area), and her involvement in the British Columbia Public Health Service, including correspondence and documents relating to her employment by the Provincial Government, as well as a photograph and memorabilia relating to her involvement in the BC Public Health Service.

Publications

Series consists of articles, book reviews, manuscripts, editorials, glossaries, lectures, and notes related to materials written and presented by McIver. Series arranged alphabetically by topic and title.

Publications and Presentations

Series consists of papers published and presented by Helen Niskala in the course of her academic career. Primary interests include the work of nurses in forensic settings, home hemodialysis, cardiac rehabilitation, community care and multiple sclerosis. Records include notes, correspondence and drafts.

Publications, Manuals, and Reports

Series consists of publications, manuals and reports issued by the BCORNG.
Publications include written histories (’79, ’81, ’86, and ’96), as well as News and Views newsletters. Reports mainly concern competency levels of OR nurses, and operating room standards.

Published and reference material

Series consists of records accumulated by the History of Nursing group. These relate to both BC and other jurisdictions, but all have a relevance to the history of nursing.

Reference materials

Series consists of articles, papers, reports, speeches, and other textual material related to nursing gathered by Paulson. In addition to material relating to a variety of nursing concerns, the series also includes much material pertaining to Paulson's understanding of tuberculosis nursing and her work in the Vancouver Unit of the Division of Tuberculosis Control.

Relationship with the CHNAC

Series consists of correspondence, newsletters, reports, lists, organizational and other records relating to the Community Health Nurses’ Group’s participation in the Canadian Health Nurses’ Association of Canada.

Reports

Series consists of reaction to the Kermacks Report and various other reports and documents related to the development of nursing in BC.

Shaughnessy Hospital

McIlrath worked at Shaughnessy Hospital from 1947 to 1976, and was Director from 1961 to 1976.

Series includes a history of Shaughnessy Hospital, Staffing Policy, Patient Profile, newsletters, photographs of Shaughnessy Hospital, and correspondence and notes concerning issues at the hospital.

Standing Committees

Standing Committees of the UBC School of Nursing were responsible to the Faculty Caucus through the Internal Committees.

Series consists of records of a number of these committees, which in 1980 numbered thirteen. Not all committees are represented, and some are represented by only a small portion of their records. Most include some minutes, and some include other records relevant to their operations.

Student Information

Series consists mainly of general information related to students in the nursing
program. Some information on individual student marks is also included. List of UBC SON graduates from 1920-1989 are included.

Student Papers

Series consists of papers on various topics by UBC School of Nursing students, mostly upper level or graduate. Many are for courses, particularly Nursing 440 (Nursing Care of Adults and Families), offered by Ethel Warbinek or Denise Fargey. Five of the papers are by Anne Wyness.

Arranged alphabetically by name of student.

Training materials for the RCAMC sisters

Series consists of notes on teaching techniques, the science of education, and hospital administration; lesson plans, obstetrical manual from St. Michael's Hospital, pamphlets, and a syllabus used for training RCAMC nursing sisters who would be teaching during the 1950s.
