Professional Papers series

This series consists of correspondence, reviews and suggestions about books and articles on Pacifism in Japan. The series also includes bibliographic lists of Howes publications. Howes supplied the title of the series. Other records related to Pacifism in Japan can also be found in the Research Materials series where Howes originally filed them.

Subject Files series

This series consists of correspondence, newsletters and coloured photographs from the UBC Asian Studies exchange program to Tezukayama University in Japan; specific research notes; black and white photographs of the Asian Centre construction site and the Nitobe Gardens opening, committee minutes, architectural drawings and correspondence related to the construction and development of the Asian Studies Centre at UBC.

The black and white photographs of the Asian Centre and the Nitobe Gardens have been kept in their original files because they are copies of prints already found in the UBC Library’s Open Collection database.

Photographs series

This series consists of black and white and coloured photographs as well as coloured slides of John Howes at various conferences, meetings and events. The series also includes a black and white photograph of Lynn Howes relatives. Only the photographs with John Howes have been scanned and added to the digital photograph database.

Biographical Materials series

Series consists of copies of Robinson's CVs, articles and other information about his distinguished career, awards he received, and other assorted material about his professional and personal life.

Book Reviews series

Series consists of Lehmann’s published book reviews, both in manuscript form and as journal clippings or off-prints. The files are arranged alphabetically by journal-title.

Biographical series

This series consists of Nicholls curriculum vitae, list of publications, newspaper clippings, correspondence and biographical works containing his poetry, drawings, paintings and short stories.

Miscellaneous series

This series consists of newspaper clippings, Certificate of Social Work, a United Way report and a program from a play produced by Nicholls.

Administrative series

Series consists of minutes from committee meetings, financial reports, lists of committee members, correspondence, application grants to the Koerner Foundation, memos, press releases, and newspaper clippings from the Ubyssey and the Vancouver Sun.

Published Works series

Series consists of materials documenting Dr. Marchak's writing and publishing and includes correspondence, written notes, typescripts, reports, journal off-prints, and newspaper and magazine clippings. It is arranged in the following sub-series: Chapters and Reprints, Bibliographies Published as Chapters, Journal Articles (Refereed), Book Reviews, Speeches/Addresses Published as Monographs, Journalism and Commentaries, Research Reports, and Letters to Editor and Miscellaneous Publications. Within each sub-series, the records have been retained in their original order; most are in reverse-chronological order.

Books, Correspondence, and Reviews series

Series consists of materials which document the publication and promotion of Marchak's books and include correspondence, written notes, contracts, and newspaper and magazine clippings (copies of book reviews). The records are arranged by book title in reverse chronological order.

Universities, Organizations, and Associations series

Series consists of materials which document Marchak's academic appointments and administrative duties. Also included are records of her reviews of educational programs at different institutions, including Brandon University, Memorial University of Newfoundland, and Australian National University. In addition, the series consists of correspondence, reports, written notes, and clippings. It is arranged in the following sub-series: Peter Wall Institute, Dean of Arts UBC, Appointments Various Personal, Societies Miscellaneous, Journals, Professional Societies, & Presses, Universities General, and University Programs Reviews.

Conferences series

The series consists of materials that document Marchak's academic conferences and includes correspondence, written notes, and conference packages. The records are arranged by conference in reverse chronological order.

Forestry B.C. series

The series consists of colour Kodachrome and Ektachrome slides, colour prints taken from various B.C. forestry locations, and accompanying notes. They are listed as Nass Camp (Canadian Cellulose Logging Operation), Sawmills, Pulpmill: Finlay, Blackwater Camp, Raspberry Harbour, and General Scenes from Nass Camp.

Research/Miscellaneous Material series

Series consists of research papers, local history, journal articles, annotated bibliographies, essays, reading lists and books on research topics written or accumulated by Parimenter. Most of the material is on residential schools and Indigenous education, but two items document some of Parminter's family history. One is a school exercise book, with exercises completed by hand, entitled "Practical Arithmetick" (1817), written by Samuel Bateson (Parminter's great-grandfather). The other is "Victorian School, "a history thesis written by Sheila Young at James Graham College, Leeds, England (1966), chronicling the history of Farnley School in Yorkshire, where John Vye Parminter served as headmaster from 1875 to 1909.

Honours and Awards series

Series includes records about the various awards received by Richard Splane, including honorary degrees from the University of Toronto, MacMaster University, Wilfred Laurier University, and UBC. In addition, records include correspondence, event programs, speech transcripts, and certificates.

Family Genealogy series

Series includes records of the archival research done for Richard Splane about his family and other genealogical work done. Records include correspondence, reports from the archival researcher, photocopies of archival documents, family stories, and wills.

Subject Files series

Series consists of files arranged by topic relating to Elvi Whittaker in her capacity as a member of the SSFC and includes correspondence, pamphlets, reports, newspaper clippings and publications.

Miscellaneous series

Series consists of a file manual, climatology reports, library reports, UCBC correspondence, a strategic plan to implement the mission of UBC, and organizational charts. Series arranged in chronological order.

Amateur Athletics and Sports Organizations series

Series includes records generated by the Vancouver Field Sports Federation (1979-1982), Vancouver Parks and Recreation Board (1980-1990), B.C. Amateur Sports Council (1959, 1981-1988), Amateur Athletic Union of Canada (1948-1951), B.C. Recreation Association (1968-1980), Sports Medicine Council of Canada (1980-1983), B.C. Sports Hall of Fame (1974-1988).

Courses series

The series consists of course outlines, examinations, related materials, and correspondence. It is primarily organized by course name and number: Pathology 375, Pathology 400, Pathology 424/425, Pathology 375, Pathology 448, Pathology 450, Pathology 452, Pathology 475, Pathology 500, Pathology 503, Pathology 506, Pathology 510, Pathology 512, Pathology 515, and Pathology 520.

Photographs series

Series consists of photographs and negatives taken during Weisgarber’s time in Japan, during which he studied shakuhachi (vertical bamboo flute) playing and construction. Also featured in the images are some of the men Weisgarber studied, including Tanaka and Kotahara.The 2018 accessioning introduced photos of Elliot, his family, and friends.

Research and Reports series

Series consists of technical reports authored by George Volkoff and others. Although most of the reports are unpublished, some were originally “classified” and are about various aspects of experimental and theoretical work done at the Montreal Laboratories for the Manhattan Project during and after World War II. There is also one report to the Canadian Association of Physicists co-written by Volkoff. Files are arranged in chronological order.

Volkoff Family History series

Series consists of records documenting the history of the Volkov/Vokkoff family and includes correspondence, a cloth mail-bag which once held much of the correspondence, official documents such as passports and marriage certificates, hand-written accounts of family history by Mikhail Mikhailovich Volkoff, transcriptions of correspondence and family history manuscripts translated into English from the original Russian, and digital copies of these transcriptions stored on CDs. Files are arranged in chronological order. Many manuscripts, correspondence, and official documents are written in Russian (Cyrillic alphabet). Some official documents originating from Harbin, Manchuria, are written in Chinese. Some manuscripts are hand-bound.

Time Zones series

Series consists of materials documenting the publication and promotion of Schlesinger’s memoir Time Zones: A Journalist in the World, and includes correspondence, clippings, itineraries and brochures for Schlesinger’s promotional tour in support of his book. Files are maintained in chronological order.

Winton/Kindertransport series

Series consists of materials documenting Nicholas Winton’s Kindertransport project and Schlesinger’s involvement in documenting and publicizing the Kindertransport many years later. Winton’s efforts rescued hundreds of Jewish children from European countries under occupation by Nazi Germany in 1938 and 1939 – Joe Schlesinger was one of them, and his name is on the list in File 9-7. Materials include scripts and transcripts for the documentaries Nicholas Winton: The power of good and Nicky’s Children, correspondence, copies of published articles about Winton and the Kindertransport, and related items. Files are maintained in chronological order.

Photographs series

Series consists of photographic prints documenting Schlesinger’s life, career, and travels. Some photographs were taken by Schlesinger, but most were taken by others and show Schlesinger either on foreign assignment or at other events.
