Memorial Book Nominations Committee
Subseries consists of material concerning an historical record that honours deceased RNABC members who deserve recognition for their contribution to nursing in British Columbia. Records include criteria for nominations and information on names submitted.
The Oral History Committee was established in 1981 on the 75th anniversary of the RNABC. Its goal was to capture past and present stories and activities of nurses of the province, and to document the development of nursing. About 1987 the Oral History group was brought under the History group, first as a gesture, then formalized as a full committee of the BCHNG about 1992.
Subseries consists of administrative and operational records of the committee. Includes blank copies of interview forms and consent forms. Various photocopies of published articles written from interviews are included. DVD contains recorded interviews with various individuals in 2010.
The B.C. History of Nursing Scholarship fund was established to provide financial support to nurses registered within B.C. who are pursuing studies in the History of Nursing, or who are carrying out a history of nursing project.

This committee meets regularly to discuss nursing concerns including issues related to financial planning and the effect of budget constraints on programs and subsequent effects on nursing shortages; the establishment of expected competencies for beginning practitioners; and the need for post basic education.

Task Committee on Competency Based Curriculum
This committee was established to respond to the Kermacks Report. Competence was defined as a measurable/observable performance to or beyond an established criterion in one or all aspects of the nursing role for a given setting, client and client problem.

Post Basic Education Committee
This committee was established to respond to the Kermacks Report, to identify the variables and potential costs to educational institutions both for development and for implementation of post basic programs.

Records of and relating to Madeline Harrower (1867-1891), who served as a nursing sister during the Boer War and World War I, were retrieved by a dumpster diver in Kerrisdale, Vancouver in 2000. Many of these were later sold at auction. Lois Blais subsequently engaged in a research review of this collection. Harrower was born in Australia and moved to Vancouver in the late 1940s.

Royal Columbia Hospital School of Nursing Manual
Subseries includes School of Nursing Manual and related documents, including School of Nursing brochure for Royal Columbia Hospital, Isolation Technique manual, and handwritten medical case histories.
Manual includes topics such as Hospital Beds, Damp Dusting a Unit, Care of Linen and Blankets, Bed Baths, Fracture or Orthopaedic Beds, Hygienic Care of Eyes, Ears, Nose & Throat, Care and Hygiene of the Mouth, Hygienic Care of Hair, How to Lift Patients, Terminal Cleaning, Application of Binders, Serving Diets, BedPans, Care of Incontinent Patient, Colonic Irrigation, Gastric and Duodenal Suction, Oxygen Therapy, and Crutch Walking. Extensive student notes are also included.
Subsubseries consists of two ledgers relating to the education of nurses. One is identified as belonging to the Kootenay Lake General Hospital Training School. The other is not identified. They were probably kept by supervising nurses.
UBC Nursing Graduates 1921-1959

Plans for offering a Doctorate in nursing grew out of the context that nursing is accountable for the development of the body of knowledge upon which its service to society is based. The first students were admitted to the School of Nursing in 1991.
Subseries consists of records related to the ongoing administration of the PhD program in the School of Nursing at UBC, including the integration of international and interdisciplinary students and the delivery of courses. Reports, memoranda, and minutes of the Planning and Coordinating Committees are included. The PhD Planning Committee was an ad hoc committee of the Graduate Curriculum Committee.

committee, including reports and other information. Subjects discussed include
the content and delivery of specific courses, grading practices, and curriculum
development.

This committee discussed the appropriate education and skills for nurses entering into nursing practice.

This standing committee reviewed and developed criteria for the appointment, evaluation and progression of faculty, including the award and distribution of merit increases.

Program Orientation: Strategic Planning
This committee discussed global issues relating to the growth and improvement of the UBC nursing program, including ways of enhancing the efficiency and effective use of resources.

Distance and Continuing Education
Continuing education was accepted in the Health Sciences in 1968. The
Department of Continuing Medical Education had been established in the Faculty of Medicine in 1960, as the need for graduates to stay abreast of new developments was recognized.

Labour of Love: A Memoir of Gertrude Richards Ladner 1879-1976
Gertrude Richards was a pioneer nurse in Delta in the early 1900s. This book by Sheila Zerr, Glennis Zilm and Valerie Grant is based on a 1998 biography of Ladner by her daughter Edna Ladner, which was based on notes dictated by her mother.

Subseries was created between the late 1960s and 2016, and is made up of collected books. These include published books about various artists, art movements, and collections of essays, as well as artist books, some chap books, self published books of poetry and other small edition books. There is no clear focus to the collection, although mail art, performance art, artist books, and concrete poetry make up a significant portion.
