An album of photographs from an unknown family. A few of the photos are identifiably in British Columbia or Alberta, but the location of the rest are unknown. It also includes a poem cut out of a magazine, "Be Here for Me" by Bonnie E. Parker (likely Bonnie Parker of Bonnie and Clyde fame).

[Barkerville & BC Photographs]

Album likely assembled at a later date by a dealer, however many are related to Barkerville, British Columbia, and a fire that destroyed the town in September of 1868. There are also other assorted images including portraits of prominent British Columbians such as James Douglas, and scenes in other small towns throughout the province. Most of the photographs are reproductions from images at the B.C. Provincial Archives and date from 1857 to 1930.

This album consists of photographs, postcards and other related ephemera related to the voyages aboard the first C.P. R.M.S. Empress of Australia, a C.P.R. railway trip through western Canada, and some photographs of the S.S. Montrose and sailors after the ship was renamed as the H.M.S. Forfar.

Handwritten notes and hand-drawn map of the rail line between Nanaimo and Englishman's River. The notes include costs and labour figures, as well as an envelope franked Dec 28 1901. Some of the memos are signed by George R. Lawrence, to whom the envelope is also addressed.

Proceedings of an inquiry regarding Chinese immigration, volumes 2 through 7. The inquiry focused particularly on the enforcement of immigration laws and regulations at the Port of Vancouver, and a Chinese interpreter named Yip On. Volume 7 ends with conclusive remarks by some of the commissioners: Mr. McCrossan, Mr. Taylor, and Mr. Grant of the Trades and Labour Council. Recommendations are made for changes to the Chinese Immigration Act.

Histories of Clandonald

Five accounts relating to the history of Clandonald, Alberta, including histories written by Father Andrew MacDonell: a 1925 manuscript "Report of the Hebridean Delegation", a 1930s manuscript and typescript history of Clandonald, and 1930s manuscript and typescript entitled "Clandonald" that reflects on colonization schemes, and a post-1945 typescript history of Clandonald also by MacDonell is addressed to "Father Ninian", which was later edited and published as "British Immigration Schemes in Alberta" in the Alberta Historical Review in 1968. The copy of this article is signed by MacDonell's sister, Annie Lawrence. Also included by other authors are a 1950s typescript "History of Clandonald by Mr. John McMorrow", postmaster at Clandonald, that includes the views of various community members, and a copy of a 1979 university graduate level history paper titled "Clandonald : a Rural Catholic Community".

[Photographs of Victoria, Esquimalt and Saanich Peninsula]

Album consists of photographs of Victoria, Esquimalt and the Saanich Peninsula in British Columbia. The photographs include depictions of a C.P.R. railroad trestle bridge in British Columbia, a portrait of a Chinese--Canadian, and a photo of the first C.P. R.M.S. Empress of Japan steamship. There is also related ephemera in the ten ribbons, ten badges, five pins, three buttons, two postage stamps, a medal, a cloth flower and a cedar twig, collected during the First World War perhaps by a member of the 6th Cyclist Battalion, The Royal Sussex Regiment, Canadian Contingent.

Empress to the Orient, Vancouver Maritime Museum Exhibition

This album consists of photographs of the Empress to the Orient exhibition, including photographs of the opening ceremonies with Drs. W. B. and M. H. Chung and William W. Stinson, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Canadian Pacific Limited. The photographs of the exhibition include several of the recreated dining room, grand saloon, and Chinese immigrant quarters displays, as well as many photographs of various artifacts, such as posters, paintings, tableware, and china that were loaned by the Chungs to the museum for the exhibition.

This album consists of photographs of the launching of the second C.P. R.M.S. Empress of Britain by the H.R.H. The Prince of Wales in Glasgow, Scotland. The album includes several photographs of H.R.H. The Prince of Wales with Edward W. Beatty, Chairman of the Canadian Pacific Railway Company, and Lord Aberconway and Sir Thomas Bell, the Chairman and Managing Director of John Brown and Company, the company responsible for the construction of the ship.

Empress of Britain, its crew, passengers, and ports of call, including photographs of the ship in Southampton, Auckland, New Zealand, Melbourne, Australia, Hong Kong, the Panama Canal, and San Francisco with passengers celebrating New Year's Eve and a photograph of a Neptune ceremony held aboard the outer deck.
