Correspondence - Writing related

Series contains records relating to correspondence about Fraser’s work as an editor at Pulp Press and as an independent author. Included are incoming and outgoing letters between Fraser (the author) and his peers and co-workers in relation to the progress of Fraser’s prose work, and incoming and outgoing letters between Fraser (the editor) and clients of Pulp Press. Outgoing correspondence remains in either draft form or as a carbon copy. Some incoming correspondence between Pulp Press and its clients relates to editorial work left incomplete by Fraser due to his death.

Correspondence - Personal

Series consists of records relating to correspondence between Fraser and numerous friends. Included are incoming and outgoing letters, cards, and postcards relating a large variety of activities and interests including updates about Fraser’s progress in terms of his creative writing. Outgoing correspondence remains in either draft form as carbon copies or as letters not sent to the intended recipient. For the majority of outgoing correspondence an intended recipient is not mentioned in the greeting by name.

Financial information

Series consists of records relating to Fraser’s financial situation and investments. Included are housing support forms and one share certificate.

Records relating to prose and creative writing work

Series consists of records relating to Fraser’s creative writing work and general prose. Included are character development work, story line work, drafts, proofs and typesets for Fraser’s collected works published under Pulp Press, promotional materials for public readings, and a large amount of random fragments of other miscellaneous creative writing and prose work.

Court case documents

Series consists of photocopied materials, correspondence, copies of case transcripts, Stacey's notes, and other documents related to and used in court cases in which Stacey was involved as an expert witness. The cases were related primarily to First Nations fishing rights.

Graphic materials

Series consists of 15 bound or coil sketchbooks and many loose drawings, paintings, and four small engraved metal plates (n.d.). Subjects of sketches include human figures, plants, landscapes, cats, birds, etc.

Photographs and slides

Series consists of photographs of Hopkins, her friends and family, her home on Galiano Island, as well as two of her ancestors--Margaret Howe Montgomery (1807-1877) and James Hume Greenfield (c. 1830). The slides are primarily of Ms. Hopkins' artwork, dating 1974, 1978, 1981 and 1982.

Cassette tapes

Series consists of three tapes which are interviews with Ms. Hopkins, as well as a recording of T.S. Eliot's Practical Cats, and a BBC recording of the marriage between Prince Charles and Lady Diana.

Minutes

Series consists of minutes from the OCAW International Executive Board, as well as Joint Industrial Council minutes from the Dartmouth, Sarnia and Strathcona plants of Imperial Oil Ltd., and the Sarnia Chemical Chemical Plant. Also included in this series is minutes relating to the Fire Crew.

Manuscripts.

Series represents Blondal’s career as a writer and radio broadcaster with the CBC, and consists mainly of an untitled mystery novel (unpublished), two versions of Blondal’s novel, A Candle to Light the Sun, as well as a number of broadcast scripts. The series also includes short stories (including one written under the pseudonym Watson O’Hearn), poems, a play, an essay, and preparatory notes. The broadcast scripts have been ordered in a chronological sequence by broadcast number and date.

Notes and other materials.

Series consists primarily of notes related to Blondal’s writing practice generally as well as her time as a student at the University of Manitoba in the 1940s. Also included in the series are university reading lists, reviews of Blondal’s publications (most of which appeared after her death), a copy of a radio play by Lydia Perera, and a guide for T.V. writers.

Biographical items series

Series is comprised of personal material from all three decades of Blondal’s life, and includes a grade 8 school report card, information for new mothers, a diary from Blondal’s time in London in 1951, as well as graphic materials and biographical notes (including two family trees).

Reports authored by Frank Charnley.

Consists of published reports authored by Frank Charnley on the subjects of fisheries, mathematics, and progress reports of the Pacific Biological Station in Nanaimo and the Pacific Fisheries Experimental Station in Prince Rupert. Several reports are published by the National Research Council of Canada.

By-laws and constitutions.

This series contains the by-laws and constitution of the British Columbia Loggers Association. The records include a by-law from 1926 and the 1949 amended by-law for the Association. The series also includes the Logger Association’s membership Act, the Benevolent Societies Act, Extraordinary Resolutions, and amendment to the Criminal Code with a particular attention to the theft of logs.

Complaints and inquiries.

Series contains complaints and inquiries made to the British Columbia Lumber Manufacturers Association. Materials consist of inquiries and complaints regarding the selling of British Columbia timber, information request about B.C. Lumber and Shingles from European countries, the Australian Tariff Board Enquiry lists of soft and hard wood varieties in British Columbia, and instructional booklets on a variety of different forestry related topics.

Conventions and conferences.

Series includes convention information relating to the British Columbia Lumber Association. Materials consists of detailed accounts of the proceedings of the convention, the convention’s program, a list of members present, a speech by A.D. McRae about lumber business in North America and a letter between L.R. Andrews and H.V. Mackin.

Educational Articles & Writings

This series includes published and unpublished articles and other writings on
educational issues, especially in British Columbia. Issues addressed include
technology in education, the internet and its affect on education, the Canadian educational system and its future, funding, mature students, and issues regarding teachers such as depression and over-working. Some have handwritten notes included or attached. This series also includes one interview with Crawford Kilian concerning his opinions on education in Canada. Mostly typed, however many of the writings do include handwritten notes and corrections.

Minutes of meetings.

Series consists of minutes taken at executive meetings and annual general meetings held in Vancouver. Minutes contain date and location of the meeting, persons present, and a brief descriptions of issues addressed or affairs carried out. Minutes from 1983 to 1985 are part of bound volumes, which also include financial reports, memos, and membership lists.

Photographs

Series contains photographs from the British Columbia Manufacturers Lumber Association. Material consists of one photo album depicting logging and sawmills on and near Queen’s Charlotte’s Island, B.C. These photographs also depict timber company edifices, and photographs of loggers.

Agreements.

Series consists of membership agreements between the Canadian Pulp and Paper Association, and the Pacific Mill Limited, Powell River Company Limited, Canadian Forest Products Limited, Sidney Roofing & Paper Company Limited, British Columbia Pulp & Paper Company Limited, and Bloedel, Stewart & Welch Limited.

Agreements.

Series contains trade agreements and agreements between associations and companies with the Consolidated Red Cedar and Shingle Association of British Columbia. The material consists of correspondence and memoranda regarding the trade agreements with the United States, duty and quota of Red Cedar Shingles on the market, revisions to the trade agreement, the association’s by-laws and the Companies Act for the Red Cedar Shingle Export Association.

Scrapbooks.

Series consists of five scrapbooks with newspaper clippings and brief articles about timber and lumber related issues including articles on pulp and plywood, news about shingle mill fires, information about the Truck Loggers’ Association, railway lumber rates, machine grooved shakes, and lumber exports.

Shingle boycott.

Series contains records relating to the Consolidation of Red Cedar Shingles Association of British Columbia’s involvement in the shingle boycott. Material consists of correspondence, newspaper clippings, and letters concerning the boycott of Canadian shingles in the United States. The majority of the press clippings are from various newspapers in Seattle, Washington.

Sloan Commission.

Series contains records relating to the Sloan Commission. Material consists of memoranda and correspondence, summary of evidence presented at the enquiry, a brief submitted to the Commission by the Consolidated Red Cedar Shingle Association of British Columbia, and transcripts of the inquiry on forest resources.

Statistics.

Series contains records relating to statistics used by the Consolidation of Red Cedar Shingles Association of British Columbia. Material consists of correspondence with the Dominion Bureau of Statistics and statistics relating to the import of shingles into Canada from the United States.

Circulars.

Series consists of circulars that discuss statistical information about plywood, plywood by species, veneer productions, temporary import charges, circulars detailing reports by other associations, discussion about freight rates, and production figures.

Minutes.

Series consists of meeting minutes related to the Plywood Manufacturers Association of British Columbia committees. Material contains ledger books with meeting minutes pasted inside, type and handwritten minutes.
The series is divided into two sub-series: Board of Directors and Management Committee meetings.

Books

Most manuscripts are typed, with handwritten corrections and notes on many.
There are ‘background notes’, ‘author galleys’, ‘page proofs’, ‘copied edited
versions’, and ‘first drafts’. Several are incomplete or without titles. All of
Kilian’s major publications are included.

Records regarding Victoria and Grey Trust Company

This series contains records pertaining to the interactions between SORWUC and Victoria and Grey Trust Company regarding their disputes as employees of Victoria and Grey attempted to unionize in the early 80s. Records include correspondence, certification documents, reports, materials relating to witness statements, unfair labour practice complaints and settlement agreement documents.

Notebooks

The series consists of 17 hand-written notebooks that contain drafts of Spider Robinson's Writings and ideas as well as some drawings.

Logs

Series consists of two appointment books listing daily activities.

Memorabilia

Memorabilia of the Wilkinson family including a bound birth date memory book, Christmas cards and invitations.

Correspondence

Series consists mainly of incoming correspondence from fans. Correspondence is of both a personal and a professional nature. In addition, the series contains correspondence between Spider Robinson and other prominent writers and publishers of science fiction. and some correspondence with family . The series has been arranged chronologically and alphabetically, except the electron mail component which is arranged chronologically.

Heavenly Monkey Editions publishing records

Series contains copies of books and ephemera issued by Heavenly Monkey Editions and includes setting copies, detailed page layout schematics, dummy of final book, final printing schedule and sequence, proofs and impressions, makeready copies, printing plates, printing blocks, and various other documents used in the creation of each item.

Other printing press publishing records

Series contains copies of books and ephemera published by Milroy in collaboration with other printing presses including, the Papermaker’s Press (Millennium), Wessel 7 Liberman Booksellers (What the Fisherman knows), Cat Skinner Press (Botanical Suite by Briony Morrow-Cribbs), Xexoxial Editions (Xerolage 62), Homenaje (El Forastero), or printed for specific individuals including Jennifer van De Pol (A Handful of Odes), Robert R. Reid (Love, Toni), Rachel M. Pollak (An Adventure is an Inconvenience Rightly Considered; Until Now), etc., and includes design sketches, proof copies, various dummies, printing plates, printing blocks, photographs, negatives and other documents used in the creation of each item.

Correspondence

Series includes print surrogates of email correspondences, arranged chronologically, with colleagues and collaborators on a variety of printing and publishing projects created by Heavenly Monkey, and Heavenly Monkey Editions, as well other printing projects undertaken by Milroy.

Committees and associations

Series contains records from the Council of Forest Industries committees. Materials include minutes, agendas, reports, and recommendations made by various committees including the Transition committee, the Steering Committee, CHIP Export Advisory committee, Canada’s Forest Philosophy Roundtable and the Shingle and Shake Promotion Committee and alternates.

Correspondence and memorandum.

Series contains memoranda and correspondence relating to the Council of Forest Industries. Material consists of correspondence with the Honourable Jean-Luc Pepin, correspondence concerning the cost of promoting forestry overseas, memos concerning the United States legislative process, correspondence of the Cooperative Overseas Promotion, correspondence and memoranda regarding the Future History Project and correspondence regarding Canadian lumber dispute, correspondence regarding Mike Aspey’s participation at Meech Lake, correspondence and memos with the Shingle and Handsplit Shake Bureau, correspondence regarding the proper packaging and labelling of shingle and shakes, correspondence and examples of shingle company shipping labels, memos and correspondence with Arnold Porter and COFI regarding the Shingle and Shakes inquiry, correspondence concerning overseas market development and missions with foreign countries, and N.R. Dustings personal correspondences.
Photographs are of different structures located in areas of Pago Pago including The Tusitala Hotel in Western Samoa, a new hotel under construction in Pago Pago, the Painnaber Hotel, a church, and the Convention Centre.
Series also holds 20 35 mm slides on the Destination of BC Forest Products.

International Trade Commission.

Series contains records relating to the International Trade Commissions and the Council of Forest Industries involvement in the commission. Material consists of memos and correspondence regarding the Commission, statements made by the Senate Finance Committee, a petition to the International Trade Commission and the United States Department of Commerce regard Softwood Lumber, Shakes and Shingles, and Fence, Shingle and Shake pre, post, and hearing documents as well as the injury decision report, notes from P. Gilbert on the Shingle and Shake inquiry, and a collection of proceedings of the Commission.

Incoming letters

Series consists of incoming correspondence related to Delafield's interests in theatre, literature, and Charlotte Yonge. Series also includes a general box list of items in the Delafield fonds. The series is arranged alphabetically according to correspondent's last name.

Records related to Lorna Lewis

Series consists of the typescript for Delafield's Brides of Heaven sent by Lorna Lewis to the Delafield family prior to the fonds’ donation to UBC Library, and two news clippings pertaining to the writings of Lorna Lewis.

Photographs and drawings

Series consists of photographs of the Fuller siblings, and drawings and paintings by the Fuller siblings. Most drawings and paintings are unsigned, but may have been by Dorothy, who illustrated their printed broadsides. Depictions in drawings include medieval costumes, people, soldiers, and scenes from their travels; also included are a drawing and embroidery piece probably sent to the sisters by a young relative or
friend.

Printed materials: pamphlets and broadsides.

This series consists of pamphlets, brochures, cartoon fliers and mass addressed letters relating to the charges against George Gee, his dismissal from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (I.B.E.W.), and the public reaction to the events.
