Brent family collection

Biographical sketch
Alexander Theodore “Sandy” Brent (1912-1990) was as lifelong resident of the South Okanagan. After the death of his mother in the influenza epidemic of 1918, he and his siblings (Frederick (Eddie), Mary, Alice, Margaret and Donald) were raised by his grandparents at the Shingle Creek Ranch. Brent married Harriet Morgan and together they raised two sons (Kenneth (b. 1942) and George (b. 1945). His sister Alice married Hal Tweddle; she and her family is photographically documented in the Richter and Tweddle families collection.
The Brent’s lived variously in Allen Grove, St. Andrews by the Lake, and Penticton. Sandy Brent worked in ranching, hard rock mining (Nickel Plate mine above Hedley), logging, and finally as a foreman and later superintendent for the Hatfield family’s Interior Contracting Company.

Scope and content
Subseries consists of recorded interviews and transcripts of recorded interviews. Not all audio recordings associated with transcripts are extant; likewise, not all audio tapes have an associated transcript. Content of interviews includes personal reminiscences, descriptions of photographs, and family histories. Subseries also includes a suite of interviews with his sisters, Alice, and Margaret.

File consists of 2 folders. Contains scrapbooks, a minute book, and a booklet detailing the constitution and by-laws of the BCWI. Inside the scrapbooks there are newspaper clippings, photographs, brochures, and cards.

File contains by-laws and constitution, meeting reports, BC Children's Hospital annual report and newsletter, handwritten notes, Arbutus Society ephemera, photographs, minutes, and newspaper clippings.

Fonds consists of certificate of incorporation, board meeting minutes and those of some constituent committees, annual reports, education, marketing, and outreach materials, and digital photography of experimentation sites extracted from optical disc. Print photographs depict locations relevant to the Becker Project and a group portrait. The fonds contains reference material that predates the formation of the corporate creator.

Four published books arrived with the fonds; these have been separated and catalogued – please see bibliography for details.

British Columbia Wine Grape Council fonds

Fonds consists of records demonstrating, supporting, and administering research efforts between 1992 and 2018. The fonds contains some records that predate the creation of the Council, but whose functions were assumed by the BCWGC as of 2006. Records concern enology, viticulture, climate, wildlife and pest control, and health and safety. Documentary forms include workbooks, booklets, correspondence, printed emails, reports, proposals, financial records (including invoices, receipts, statements, and accounts), newsletters, and meeting minutes.

Scope and content
Series consists of records pertaining to the British Columbia Women’s Institute (BCWI), administered at the provincial level. Activities represented include convention planning and delivery, governance and decision-making, financial management, publications and communications, crafts and fine arts, activism and lobbying, and educational initiatives. Across activities are diaries, artifacts, and photographs.

Series consists of records pertaining to various individual Women’s Institute districts and branches forming regional representation of the British Columbia Women’s Institute. Records in this series mostly pertain to the areas of finance, governance, activism, and correspondence. Other significant records include photographs, artifacts, ephemera, as well as arts and crafts. Series is arranged into files according to creating body.

Fonds consists of records created and received by the British Columbia Women’s Institute and its constituents and relate to the work done by members of the BCWI at the provincial level as well as its various local chapters. Records in this fonds consist predominantly of administrative records as well as the compiled research materials pertaining to the Women’s Institutes and notable figures within.

The fonds also includes documentation of the BCWI’s intersections with the FWIC and the ACWW. Fonds is arranged into five series: 1) Federated Women’s Institutes of Canada (FWIC); 2) Associated Countrywomen of the World (ACWW); 3) British Columbia Women’s Institutes (BCWI); 4) BCWI Districts; 5) Research files.

Bulkley Tweedsmuir District

File contains a short history on the district, photocopied newspaper clippings, information on various incorporations and staff, a poem, a newsletter, reports, and a copy of a booklet titled �Pioneer Women.�
