An album of photographs from throughout the United States and British Columbia. Predominantly the Western United States, but also a few from New York. The photographs are not in an order that suggest the itinerary of one long trip. They may represent travel photos from an individual from multiple trips.

View on CPR Winnipeg to Vancouver 1887

An album of photographs by WM. Notman and Son, documenting travel between Winnipeg and Vancouver along the Canadian Pacific Railway. Mostly landscape photographs in the mountains, but also some cityscapes and buildings in Winnipeg. Also included is an original photograph order sheet from WM. Notman & Son from "3rd Series Manitoba & the North West" with pricing and titles. The album and photographs are in good shape, though some of the pages have separated from the binding.

[Canada and the United States in the 1880's]

Photographs from Quebec, Ontario, New York state, Alberta, and BC, taken by various photographers. Likely an album documenting travel along the Canadian Pacific Railway. The album and the photos are in good shape, with some foxing and staining. Most of the images are captioned with their location, but are undated.

[Jock Taylor's Travels]

An album of photographs, possibly assembled by Jock Taylor. At least some of the photos were taken by ‘Bodurtha’. Others were taken by Frederick Dally (many available through Library and Archives Canada). The images are believed to depict travels as part of the British Navy mainly aboard the HMS Zealous. Predominantly taken in 1870 and 1871 in South America, the United States, and British Columbia, it also includes images from Egypt in 1885. The photos are housed in a tattered blue album with the images glued onto the pages. Many photos include captions, though the writing is fading, and sometimes is recopied more legibly.

An album depicting the building of the Fraser River Bridge (also known as the New Westminster bridge of the Fraser River Swing bridge) at various stages. Includes image of the consulting engineers and contractors for substructure of the bridge. Many of the photos are bent and cracking.

Walhachin, B.C. 1910

An album of photographs from in and around the townsite of Walhachin B.C., now abandoned. It includes an informal census with all the residents names and occupation. The focus is on scenery and development, with a particular emphasis on agriculture.

[Sailor's Photo Album]

A photo album, with a few loose images tucked in, believed to be kept by a sailor in the navy, likely stationed in Comox or Esquimalt, British Columbia. It includes a number of images from around the world including many of ships and navy crew. Also a few images of an apparent train journey in the Canadian Rockies. Some of the locations are unknown. The album is missing its back cover and only small portions are still bound together at the spine.

A book of printed drawings, by an unknown artist, of British Columbia and Alaska, published by M.W. Waitt & Co. booksellers in Victoria B.C. The book has a stylized red cover, and the spine is basically completely detached; the images are in decent shape, but the pages are coming apart at the seams.

[Edith Thompson's Photo Album]

A family and travel photo album believed to be kept by Edith E. Thompson. It depicts travels throughout Canada, particularly in the Rockies, as well as Europe (the United Kingdom, Belgium, and France), and Alaska. The album and photos are still in fairly good shape; though one page has a quarter of the page cut away.

[Early Vancouver]

An album of photographs taken by an English visitor mostly of various places and views throughout Vancouver, plus a few of Niagara Falls. The album has been disassembled and is housed in a box. There are 67 original albumen prints in plastic sleeves, with silver gelatin copies and their negatives attached to each one. There are also seven modern reproductions.

An album of photographs by different photographers from throughout Canada and the United States. Likely an album compiled by an individual documenting their travels. Housed in a red souvenir album, the photos and book are still in fairly good, though varying, condition. There are four loose images tucked in the front that are described as being “Collodion Silver Emulsion (printing out paper) toned with gold and platinum”.

[Porter Family Album]

A photo album kept by the family of Dr. A.E. Porter of their travels throughout Canada, the United States, and South America. The album is in moderate shape, with a lot of the pages falling apart at the edges. The photos are thoroughly captioned, and there is also a newspaper clipping pasted in the back that details some of Dr. Porter's history.

[Possible Murray Family Photo Album]

An album of predominantly landscape photographs from throughout British Columbia, as well as a few in Vancouver, including some of ships in the harbour. In the back after a number of blank pages are also some family snapshots. Many of the photos are captioned in fading pencil. The album may have belonged to a member of Kathleen Murray's family.

[Abramson Family Album]

A family album that comes from the estate of one Mr. Abramson, a former Consul General of the United States to Canada. The photos are from throughout British Columbia and California, in Kelowna in particular. Most of the images are captioned, but many are too faded to be fully legible. There is some significant damage to the album and some of the photographs. One negative is also tucked into the album.

[Maud Bauer Photo Album]

A photo album with hand-written notes documenting the life and travel of Maud Bauer of Vancouver; in particular a trip with her Mother in 1903. The photos, housed in a small notebook, are well-preserved and almost all have captions including personal names, and city populations. See also UL_1015 for photos and diary of her husband William A. Bauer concerning a trip he took to Malaysia and Singapore.

Greater Vancouver Illustrated

A printed and bound book about the early days of Vancouver with a number of photos and illustrations. It includes information about a number of prominent businesses, buildings, and individuals. The cover and binding are degrading, but the text and images are still in good shape. Tucked inside is a piece of phone listings torn off and presumably used as a bookmark.

[Wilson Photo Album]

A personal photo album kept by Clara and/or Kitty Wilson of Vancouver. Mainly portraits of the two sisters and their friends and family, plus some shots in and around Vancouver and British Columbia, including photographs of the Vancouver Pier 'D' Fire of 1938. Very few of the images are captioned. There are also a couple of postcards, and at least one negative included. The album and photographs are in great shape. See also UL_1591 for an album of Clara and Kitty's cycling trips, a few of whose photos are repeated here.

[Istanbul Photo Album]

An album of photographs and postcards of Istanbul (referred to as Stamboul or Constantinople throughout). Most of the images include type-written captions. The album comes from the estate of one Mr. Abramson, a former Consul General of the United States to Canada, and it is possible that he is the creator. A second album of Istanbul photos, also from Abramson's estate, is dated 1928, and is believed to be from the same trip (see UL_1293/1734 #4). The album, photos, and captions are all in good shape.

[Istanbul Photo Album 2]

An album of photographs of Istanbul, likely images purchased as souvenirs of a trip. See also UL_1734_03 for snapshots believed to be from the same trip. Both albums come from the estate of one Mr. Abramson, a former Consul General of the United States to Canada. There are images from the around the city, from the interior of what is believed to be the Istanbul Archaeology Museum, and one, incongruously, of the Great Wall of China. Some of the images come with type-written captions or information clipped from newspapers or pamphlets. The album and most of the photos are in good condition. Some of the typed captions in the album appear to be from a published guide to Constantinople.
