Series contains records relating to the Edgewood trademark owned by the Consolidated Red Cedar Shingle Association of British Columbia. Materials include correspondence with other forestry organization regarding the use of the Edgewood logo, correspondence with attorneys, the patent certificate for the registration of the trademark, request for re-registration of the trademark and examples of the proper use of the logo. Series includes statistics relating to the British Columbia Lumber Manufacturers Association. Materials consist of a comparison of logging and sawmill workers by nationality and statistics from the Bureau of Economics on commodities from British Columbia that are exported to foreign countries.

Series contains statistics relating to the Council of Forest Industries activities. Material consists of statistics regard the shingle and shake and lumber exports from Canada to the United States, statistics of Certigrade Shingles and Certi-Split Shake production by grade and type, Red band Shingle Conversion Table, figures on the
shipment of shingle and shakes to external markets, shingle and shake export figures, and shingle and shake exports by country.

Series contains records relating to statistics used by the Consolidation of Red Cedar Shingles Association of British Columbia. Material consists of correspondence with the Dominion Bureau of Statistics and statistics relating to the import of shingles into Canada from the United States.

Speeches and addresses.

Series contains remarks and speeches made by the president of COFI. Material consists of remarks made by Mike Apsey as President of COFI at the signing ceremony to launch the cooperative Industrial and Market Development Program.
Photographs include the signing of the $6.85 million agreement between the wood products industry and the B.C. Government. Included in the photo are Ted Cameron, hon. John Jansen, Hon. Frank Oberle and Mike Apsey.

Sloan Commission.

Series contains records relating to the Sloan Commission. Material consists of memoranda and correspondence, summary of evidence presented at the enquiry, a brief submitted to the Commission by the Consolidated Red Cedar Shingle Association of British Columbia, and transcripts of the inquiry on forest resources.

Shingle boycott.

Series contains records relating to the Consolidation of Red Cedar Shingles Association of British Columbia’s involvement in the shingle boycott. Material consists of correspondence, newspaper clippings, and letters concerning the boycott of Canadian shingles in the United States. The majority of the press clippings are from various newspapers in Seattle, Washington.

Scrapbooks.

Series consists of five scrapbooks with newspaper clippings and brief articles about timber and lumber related issues including articles on pulp and plywood, news about shingle mill fires, information about the Truck Loggers’ Association, railway lumber rates, machine grooved shakes, and lumber exports.

Material consists of reports by the COFI president regarding different forestry related topics, a report entitled “Impact of Government on Industry Competitiveness, reports on forestry resources in B.C, a report on sustainable development and B.C. pulp and paper industry, and a document on Native land claims and their relationship with forestry, reports on the overseas markets and the forestry industry, a review on the Northern Interior Lumber sector, information and proceedings concerning the Forest Forever Campaign for Wood, reports to members and divisions of COFI, a short history of Cedar, reports on the shingle and shake program and its promotion overseas, and a CFS Technical Report.

Series contains reports relating to the British Columbia Lumber Manufacturers Association. Materials consist of reports from the Market Committee outlines shingles in Northwest and Eastern Canada, a copy of a paper by R. H. Alexander, net price information concerning the Prairie and Eastern Canadian markets, the development of forest policy in British Columbia, prices with shipping weights, and rail lists. Also included is a detailed report on lumber exports by product, lumber exports by species, distribution figures, and production in the post-war Canadian market. Also include are the annual reports of the activities of different BCLMA committees for each year.

Series contains of publicity records relating to British Columbia Lumber Manufacturers Association. Materials consist of practice notes on forest conservation, a statement prepared by the Forest Service for the British Empire Forestry Conference in South Africa, an pictorial publication indicating the use of British Columbia timber in the British Empire with an indication of printing prices per sheets, and information notes on the renaissance of England’s wood, and correspondence between the BCLMA and forestry related institutions around the world request promotional material.

Projects.

Series contains special projects conducted by the Consolidated Red Cedar Shingle Association of British Columbia. Material contains photographs of the re-shingling of the Prime Minister Louis St. Laurent’s home on Sussex drive in Ottawa and includes correspondence on the progress of the project and background information. Also included are correspondence, letters, reports relating to the use and the promotion of the Colt shingles by W.H. Colt Limited, correspondence with the Handsplit Mill Museum, information concerning the Los Angeles fires and their relationship to shingles, correspondence and inquiries into the re-roofing of St. Peter’s Church in England with B.C. shingles.

Series contains of records related to different projects undertaken by the British Columbia Lumber Manufacturers Association. Materials consist of correspondence requesting films about the forestry and lumber industry, a discussion of caption for a forestry related film, an extract from an article on Fire Proofing Wood, correspondence requesting information on the preservative treatment of timber, and a request for a speaker to present his knowledge of wood chemistry.

Series consists of project files related including material related to shingle and shake promotion project the Brügman BAU Exhibition in Germany. Records include correspondence, pamphlets, and brochures on shingles and shakes in Germany.
Photographs are of the Brügman exhibition stand at fair BAU in Munich. The exhibition stand is roughly 400 square meters. The fairs dominant feature was its Shingle and Shakes. Another photograph is of Mr. Ravens –British Columbia’s housing minister –standing before a totem pole.

Series contains photographs and slides relating to the Council of Forest Industries. Photographs depict uses of shingle and shakes and various members of COFI, past presidents and members of forest and lumber associations in British Columbia.

Material consists of a news release aimed at the European forest industry, more specifically to the United Kingdom and news releases from the Canadian Forest Industries Council regarding the International Trade Administration and their ruling on Canadian lumber products, a communiqué regarding the Wood Products Export Agreement extension, a news release advertising the name change of the Northern B.C. Lumber Association to the Northern Forest Products Association (NFPA) as a result of COFI’s reorganization, a media release concerning an announcement being made regarding B.C. forestry and tourism sector.

Series contains records relating to the International Trade Commissions and the Council of Forest Industries involvement in the commission. Material consists of memos and correspondence regarding the Commission, statements made by the Senate Finance Committee, a petition to the International Trade Commission and the United States Department of Commerce regard Softwood Lumber, Shakes and Shingles, and Fence, Shingle and Shake pre, post, and hearing documents as well as the injury decision report, notes from P. Gilbert on the Shingle and Shake inquiry, and a collection of proceedings of the Commission.

Governance.

Series contains records relating to the reorganization and governance of the Council of Forest Industries. Material consists of organization’s mission and mandate, strategic plan, goals and activities, organizational plans, descriptions about COFI positions and departments, questions about the future direction of the organization, staff development seminar documents, documents concerning issues faced by COFI during the 1990s, and the documents regarding the reorganization of the organization. Materials also include COFI’s reorganization of its Shingle and Shake division.

Series contains records relating to the B.C. Loggers Association’s financial records. Series consists of correspondence concerning the meeting dates and times of committees, draft declaration and by-laws for the association, correspondence concerning the appointment of new directors, that concerning the matters necessary to complete the incorporation and organization of the association, the promotion of the association, correspondence regarding standards and various booklets between the United States Government and CRCSA, regarding shingle grading, and correspondence with lawyers regarding the duty of shingles.

Series includes convention information relating to the British Columbia Lumber Association. Materials consists of detailed accounts of the proceedings of the convention, the convention’s program, a list of members present, a speech by A.D. McRae about lumber business in North America and a letter between L.R. Andrews and H.V. Mackin.

Series contains conference and convention documents relating to the Council of Forest Industries. Material consists of a submission to the British Columbia Round Table on the Economy and Environment from COFI and notes from a conference call regarding Meech Lake.

Series contains complaints and inquiries made to the British Columbia Lumber Manufacturers Association.
