Series consists of records documenting certain functions, programmes, and activities of VHHSC which are affiliated with, or otherwise closely related to, those of the UBC Department of Medicine and includes reports, correspondence, and minutes.

The series consists of records relating to the development and administration of the various divisions and programmes within the Department of Medicine and includes correspondence, reports, and minutes. Because of the close working relationship between the UBC Department of Medicine and the Vancouver Hospital & Health Sciences Centre Department of Medicine (VHHSC), some VHHSC divisional records were interfiled and are included here. UBC and VHHSC divisions include Cardiology, Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, Critical Care, Dermatology, Endocrinology and Metabolism, Experimental Medicine, Gastroenterology, General Internal Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, Hematology, and Infectious Diseases.

The fonds consists of records documenting the functions, activities, and programmes of the UBC Department of Medicine and its constituent divisions. Also, because of the close working relationship between the Department and the Vancouver Hospital & Health Sciences Centre Department of Medicine -- the two were led by the same department head for much of the 1990s -- some VHHSC records were kept with the UBC files in the department offices; they remained interfiled when the records were transferred to the University Archives. The records include correspondence, reports, minutes, and published materials.
