a big boat used to sit amongst the herring boats (camoflaged and filled with ice) ready to run springs into camps (Fisheries didn't know anything about)
Franky Selvie, while fishing for bait for cod right off Fanny Bay Wharf got 18 mild cure. Fisheries officer made him throw them back.
1924 - tending for George Stevens, (one boat) ran 280 springs into camp
555 jacksprings that didn't go the weight (4 man seine) from 4 sets - traded George for apples.
