Empress to the Orient, sponsored by Canadian Pacific Limited

This album consists of promotional material for the Empress to the Orient exhibition at the Vancouver Maritime Museum in May 1991 to January 1992. It includes a press kit consisting of a colour poster advertising the exhibition, the notes for remarks by William W. Stinson, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Canadian Pacific Limited, and E. V. Dodge, the Executive Vice-President of Canadian Pacific Rail. The album also consists of a May 6, 1991 press release by the Vancouver Maritime Museum regarding the opening of the exhibition to the public and a communique issued by the Royal Canadian Mint on May 15, 1991, regarding a one hundred dollar commemorative gold coin depicting the C.P. R.M.S. Empress of India. Enclosed within the press kit are fifteen photographs of the exhibition, and an article from the January 1992 issue of Vancouver Magazine.

Empress to the Orient, Vancouver Maritime Museum Exhibition

This album consists of photographs of the Empress to the Orient exhibition, including photographs of the opening ceremonies with Drs. W. B. and M. H. Chung and William W. Stinson, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Canadian Pacific Limited. The photographs of the exhibition include several of the recreated dining room, grand saloon, and Chinese immigrant quarters displays, as well as many photographs of various artifacts, such as posters, paintings, tableware, and china that were loaned by the Chungs to the museum for the exhibition.

The British Columbia Provincial Museum's 1985 exhibition titled The New Highway to the Orient : The Canadian Pacific in British Columbia, 1885-1985 folder

This album consists of a file folder that held pictures mounted on card for the British Columbia Provincial Museum's 1985 exhibition titled The New Highway to the Orient : The Canadian Pacific in British Columbia, 1885-1985. An inscription: "To Wally with my sincere thanks, Bob" is on the inner right side of the folder with a picture of the builder's model of the C.P. R.M.S. Empress of Asia mounted on the folder's verso. The file folder was presented to Dr. W. B. Chung by the museum, curator Robert Turner, in acknowledgement of his assistance in the preparation of the exhibition. Included are two complimentary tickets to the exhibition.

[Barkerville & BC Photographs]

Album likely assembled at a later date by a dealer, however many are related to Barkerville, British Columbia, and a fire that destroyed the town in September of 1868. There are also other assorted images including portraits of prominent British Columbians such as James Douglas, and scenes in other small towns throughout the province. Most of the photographs are reproductions from images at the B.C. Provincial Archives and date from 1857 to 1930.

Our Trip

Album of personal photographs documenting a family trip to Texas. On the cover is a colour image of oxen pulling a cart, with the pre-printed title "Our Trip". In the inside front cover is hand-written "My trip, with brother Ernest & Marion and Patsy. July & Aug. 1953, to Texas". The leather album is still in good shape, though some of the photos are fading and warping.
