The Working Forest Project

Series consists of photographic materials from the production of The Working Forest of British Columbia. The series is arranged into 3 files based on their media type: photographs, contact sheets, and negatives, and 1 sub-series of slides. The slides sub-series is divided into five files: master slides, The Working Forest slides, Southern Interior slides, Northern Interior slides, South Vancouver Island slides, North Vancouver Island slides, West Vancouver Island Slides, and Fire slides.

Reports

Series consists of reaction to the Kermacks Report and various other reports and documents related to the development of nursing in BC.

Posters and Clippings

Series consists of two posters idealizing the nursing profession and one newspaper clipping. “Overseas Uniform of Red Cross and Canteen Maid.” Seattle Post-Intelligencer, dated September 1, 1918.

Literary Works

Series consists of photostat copies of literary works by George Peele from the 1500s and a manuscript work by an unknown author in the late 1800s containing various excerpts and notes.

Personal photographs and documents

Series consists of photographs and documents related to Alice Wright’s personal life, including a copy of a studio photograph taken of her circa 1920; a photograph of her taken at her 100th birthday party, a 1927 handwritten copy of her birth certificate, and her passport for 1953-1963.

Career related photographs, documents and artifacts

Series consists of photographs, documents and artifacts related to Alice Wright’s nursing education and career, including certificates and pins awarded to Wright from various educational institutions and associations, a photograph of Wright as a student at Vancouver General Hospital circa 1917, and various photographs related to Wright’s involvement with the International Council of Nurses in the 1950s and 1960s.

Public Health Nursing

Series consists of records relating to Campbell Jackson's work as a Public Health Nurse in the interior of British Columbia (Kamloops-Lilooet-Ashcroft area), and her involvement in the British Columbia Public Health Service, including correspondence and documents relating to her employment by the Provincial Government, as well as a photograph and memorabilia relating to her involvement in the BC Public Health Service.

Relationship with the CHNAC

Series consists of correspondence, newsletters, reports, lists, organizational and other records relating to the Community Health Nurses’ Group’s participation in the Canadian Health Nurses’ Association of Canada.

Series consists of a set of photographs depicting community health nursing activities, as well as negatives and contact sheets of these and related photographs.

Photographs

Textual records include two programs for the 1994 Member Recognition Awards with supporting documentation. Photographs are of Lois Blais along with mostly unidentified people at formal and social occasions. Most are on the occasion of her receiving the 1994 Recognition Award and a tea. Others are taken on her November 28, 1996 graduation from a Masters in Nursing program at UBC.

Series consists of correspondence, clippings, postcards, photographs, newsletters,
and other printed material on a variety of subjects primarily related to the
W.R.C.N.S. These subjects include administration, women and women's services,
files on persons, ships, uniforms, reports, the Royal Canadian Navy, publishers,
poems, prayers, various cities in Canada, and music.

Scrapbooks

Series consists of scrapbooks created by W.R.C.N.S. troops. The scrapbooks include photographs and clippings documenting the activities of the W.R.C.N.S.

Photographs and posters

Series consists of an album, and loose photographs depicting various ships, a recruiting display, W.R.C.N.S in the first Vancouver unit, W.R.C.N.S. reunions in Toronto and Vancouver, the H.M.C.S. Chippewa unit, and a W.R.C.N.S Anniversary banquet. Series also contains a W.R.C.N.S’ poster.

Correspondence

Series consists of professional and personal correspondence relating to student positions, her Provincial Board of Health position in Nanaimo, Richmond Public Health, research articles, various projects, professional memberships, student reports, and recommended standards and practices for nursing.

Photographs

Series consists of photographs, particularly of McIlrath’s military years, mostly gathered from other sources. Information accompanies most of these photographs, which also have written numbers on their reverse. A typed list of information on photographs from the Canadian National Archives is included, but most of these do not have corresponding prints.

Correspondence

Correspondence was kept in file folders, arranged alphabetically within a range of years. Unfiled correspondence also contains a marked up copy of Nicol’s play A Scar is Born. Series contains 2 col. photographs at 37 – 25, 2 slides at 38 – 10, and 2 col. photographs at 38 – 22.

Books

Series consists of typescripts of books. Some files contain reference materials, notebooks of handwritten drafts, correspondence and other related materials. The Vancouver file and Dickens of the Mounted file include photographs. The series is arranged alphabetically by title.

Ephemera and memorabilia

Series consists of posters, newspaper clippings, family genealogical records, various awards including the UBC Alumni Award and the Order of Canada, as well as records related to various court cases Nicol was involved in. For other relevant records from previous accruals see earlier finding aids.

Photograph Album

Series consists of an album of photographs of people attending a reception for Bernadet Ratsoy on January 31, 1990. Most are identified. Photographs have been left in album as they could not be removed without damage.

Income Tax Files

Series consists of the income tax return records from 1965-1996 for Keith and Mollie Ralston and related documentation.

Reports

Series consists of reports on washing tests, land transfer and the geology of
Graham Island.

Maps

Series consists of blue prints, drawings and maps of Graham Island indicating property ownership, location of coal openings, drill hole sites and geological structure.

Printed work

This series contains printed work. The majority of the material is the work of Robert Reid and includes business stationery and cards, certificates, greeting cards, posters and pamphlets. Material was printed under a number of pressed that employed Reid and under the presses owned and operated by Reid.

Also present in this series is the printed work of other publishers, designers and printers. Often, the creators of these works are unspecified.

W.H. White and D.V. White correspondence

Series is composed of incoming correspondence and drafts and originals of outgoing correspondence to and from William Hale White and/or Dorothy Vernon White. The large majority of files are W.H. White's incoming and outgoing correspondence . Correspondents include W.H. White's literary and other friends, communications with publishers, and with family members. Some files include correspondence with both W .H. White and D.V. White.

Miscellaneous materials

Series is composed of items created by persons not listed above, items whose authorship could not be identified, and items associated with the administration of the Collection.

Field circular

The series consists of three field circulars received by Bruce Woodsworth dated 1937; one from the Anglo-American Corporation and the other two from the Rhokan Corporation Limited.

License

The series consists of an arms license, a special game license, and correspondence returning the game license with provisions.

General circulars

Series consists of the general circulars and reports from Pacific District Council to E. T. Fenton, president of the Vancouver, B.C. union, documenting the activities of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers primarily in the U.S., which includes reports of officials, decisions of the Executive Board and political campaigns in the U.S. and some activities in the B.C. locals. Series is arranged into two files: general circulars from P.D.C.1912; general circulars from P.D.C. 1913.

Administrative documents

Series consists of administrative documents of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, which contains a membership application form; an I.B.E.W. diagram; letterhead; and handwritten financial documents. Series is arranged into one file: administrative documents of the I.B.E.W.

Original manuscript material

Series consists of original manuscript material, including letters, reports, and other documents, related to the early political, religious, and economic climate of Canada, and French Canada in particular. Includes letters and reports regarding the Red River and Riel Rebellions, and letters and other documents by or attributed to Jean Talon, Jean de Lamberville, Bishop La Croix de Saint-Vallier, Francis Maseres, Sir James Monlc, Colonel Charles-Michel de Salaberry, R. Desrivieres, Sir Wilfred Laurier, and Charles B. Rouleau.
