Margaret A. Ormsby Oral History Project fonds

The fonds consists of forty-one interviews with thirty eight colleagues, family, students and friends of Margaret Ormsby. In addition to the 50 cassette tapes there is also general information about the project as well as textual material for each interview consisting of a tape release form signed by the interviewee, a biographical information sheet and a detailed "timed tape guide".

Audio Tape series

Series consists of 50 audio tapes representing forty-one interviews conducted by Ruth Sandwell with thirty-eight individuals between April and August of 1999. Please see the finding aid for an inventory of the audio tapes.

Multi-Criteria Analysis series

Series consists of textual, photographic, audio, and digital records documenting multi-criteria analysis (MCA) in public consultation and visioning, particularly in the Slocan Valley and the Arrow Forest District. Materials include reports, published materials, theses/dissertations by forestry students, correspondence, slides used in public presentations illustrating forestry practices and environmental aesthetics in the Slocan and Arrow regions, CDs with digital data used in reports and publications, and audio cassette recordings of meetings of forestry and environmental stakeholder groups from the Arrow Forest District.

Teaching Shakespeare On Screen series

This book was published by St Clair Press Pty Ltd in Australia in 1999 under the name Shakespeare on Celluloid. It was decided that the word “celluloid” was outdated, so the title was changed when PEP republished it in 2001.

Series consists of documentation of the publication of Teaching Shakespeare On Screen and includes drafts, editorial notes, and correspondence.

Safety series

Series consists of minutes and safety materials for various committees associated with divisions that work on infrastructure installations, upgrades, renovations, and installations. It also includes materials related to the piloting of a workplace safety program.

Clippings series

The series consists of clippings from newspapers and magazines and includes examples of Chongs’s published fiction and non-fiction writing and reviews of his books.

Catalytic Visitor series

Series consists of one file detailing the selection of Gideon Davies as the Catalytic Visitor in 1999-2000 and includes correspondence, applications, CVs and reference letters.

Note: The Catalytic Visitor Program existed from 1998-2000 and has been proposed to be replaced by the Distinguished Visiting Professor Program.

Visiting Junior Scholars series

Series includes administrative files relating to the Visiting Junior Scholar Program and each scholar's files. The scholars' files include correspondence, CVs, research proposals, interest statements, and reference letters. The administrative files consist of correspondence, agendas, schedules, notes and University paperwork. Series is arranged chronologically by year of the program and then alphabetically by scholar.

Note: The Visiting Junior Scholar Program existed from 1999-2003 and has been replaced by the Wall Summer Institute for Research Program.

Research Materials series

Series consists of materials collected or created during Chong’s research activities, both in connection with his writing projects and otherwise, and includes written notes, correspondence, and photocopied published materials.

Young Adolescents Meet Literature series

This book was published by PEP in 2000. The book had several contributing authors, each writing a book chapter.
Series consists of documentation of the publication of Young Adolescents Meet Literature and includes drafts, editorial notes, and correspondence.

From Teacher to Teacher Educator series

This book was published by PEP in 2004 and tells the story of faculty associates in the Professional Development Program at Simon Fraser University. These associates are distinguished teachers who take on a two-year position at SFU teaching teacher education courses. Series consists of drafts, correspondence, and editorial notes.

Audio Tape series

Series consists of an audio recording of Elliott discussing Margaret Ormsby as professor, colleague, and friend. Audio tape #3372.

Autobiography series

The series consists of edited and revised drafts and correspondence for Patricia Carney's autobiography, Trade Secrets: A Memoir (2000). The 2011 accrual was minimally reordered on the series and file-level to match the arrangement of the previous archivist. The original order of items and file titles were preserved when possible. This series contains drafts of Carney's autobiography, correspondence and media reactions to the book. Carney accredited the photographers and textual contributors in Photographs, Endnotes, and Bibliography files. Large portions of Carney's research for the book have been salvaged. And publishing touring correspondence with Key Porter, the publishing company, is also included. Finally, publicity and media surrounding the book launch and readers' reactions to the autobiography are present.

Development series

Series consists of correspondence, maps, minutes and information kits related to the development, construction, and upgrading of buildings at the UBC Campus. In addition, it includes consultation on expected infrastructure costs for projects not managed by the department/UBC and collaboration with other development partners/units at UBC.

Project Files series

Series consists of correspondence, timelines, technical diagrams and plans resulting from planning the development of infrastructure and utility infrastructure on campus, such as seismic upgrades, putting in gas lines, upgrading power lines, and other projects carried out by UBC.

Photographs series

Series consists of photographs of Richard Mattessich at various events, particularly UBC-related events and the occasion of receiving his honorary degree from Universidad Complutense in Spain.

Photographs are stored separately and listed in the UBC Archives’ photograph holdings as UBC 193.1.

Artwork series

Series consists of a variety of artwork created by Bullock, for display and as art for book covers and promotional material. The material includes photographic prints and negatives, collages, and larger pieces.

Babel subseries

Babel was a newsletter created and circulated within the graduate student community and contains written contributions in prose, poetry, and drawings. Sub-series consists of six editions of the newsletter, filed chronologically from September 1998 to March 1999.

Family History Research Series

Series consists of records from the research conducted by Keith into his family history. It consists of correspondence, research, photographs, audio recordings, and interview transcripts. This series includes information that was used in Keith’s memoir Fatherless. Material arranged in two sub-series: Files and Audio Recordings.

Sustainable Cities Foundation subseries

Subseries consists of drafts, essays, notes, clippings, correspondence, memos, invitations, minutes, memorandum, newspapers, agendas, pamphlets, note cards, reports, plans, and maps, relating to H. Peter Oberlander’s professional work at board meetings of the Sustainable Cities Foundation.

Legal Documents for APEC PCC and related Federal Court Litigation subseries

The subseries consists of submissions by counsel representing various individuals and organizations, including the Attorney General of Canada, the Vancouver Police Department, the RCMP and various civilian participants in the RCMP PCC. It includes Affidavits, Books of Authority, Motion Records, Arguments, and Submissions.

Harry Warren series

Series consists of publication lists, photographs, awards, speeches, correspondence, and newspaper clippings pertaining to Harry Warren's personal and professional activities.

Columbia University series

Series consists of materials that document Chong’s time in the creative writing programme at Columbia University and includes correspondence and course materials.

Publishing series

Series consists of materials documenting Kevin Chong’s relationships in the publishing industry and includes correspondence, agreements, publishers’ catalogues, annotated off-prints, and readers’ reports.

National Contexts for Mathematics and Science Education series

This encyclopedia was published by PEP in 1997. Similar to the TIMSS book discussed above, it includes a chapter for each country involved, and each of those chapters was written by a person or persons from that country. The book focuses on the educational systems of each participating country. Series consists of drafts of the work.

Teaching to Wonder series

The book was published in 1997. It is “an exploration of the ways in which contemporary literary theory can underpin an inviting secondary school poetry program” and was intended for both practicing teachers and education students.
Series consists of a draft.

World reunions

Series consists of journals, CDs and DVDs, and invitations about the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and 10th World Reunions of the Johanneans. Series is arranged into ten files.

Audio visual series

The series consists of various tape formats, including VHS, Betacam SP, Betacam L, Mini-DV, Hi8, DVC-PRO, DVC-CAM and audio cassette tapes. The videotapes are assigned numeric and alphanumeric codes according to the format type and its order in the editing process. For example, the 6000 series are DVC-CAM and DVC-PRO tapes, whereas the 7000 are audio cassette tapes. It is not uncommon that VHS tapes were initially given two numbers codes (by the creator). The alphanumeric codes are the initial tracking codes. This is followed by numerical codes, as seen in the 5000, 7000 and 9000 series. The VHS tapes include time codes.

Only the Betacam are catalogued as part of the University Archives media holdings since these are considered the original, whereas the VHS and other formats are copies. The tapes contain footage of interviews, conferences, such as the Quebec Summit, and the editing process. The Betacam video tapes are accessible under VT UBC 1174 to VT UBC 1478.
Most media was retained, and the duplicate footage was kept in various formats, such as Betacam and VHS. Footage that was not retained consisted of televised material, published works, shots that contained images of landscapes, building exteriors and interiors, audio/video tapes that were damaged, contained no image, and no audio, duplicate footage, PAL format, and images which were severely blurred.

UBC President's Speeches series

The series consists of transcripts of speeches delivered by former UBC President Dr. Martha C. Piper at various functions associated with the Development Office. Files are arranged in chronological order.

Audio series

The series consists of one audio cassette tape containing two radio interviews on regulating and funding midwifery as a health profession in British Columbia.

Jonathan Oppenheim series

The series consists of exhibits, videotapes, photographs and documents collected for the PCC, correspondence and legal documents related to both the PCC and related legal actions, APEC Alert posters, information, pamphlets and ephemera, and other material collected and created by Oppenheim concerning the events surrounding APEC and the RCMP PCC.

External Affairs subseries

Subseries consists of an organization chart, job descriptions, resumes, budgets, and policy manuals, all of which pertain to the External Affairs division.

APEC Exhibits and Related Documents subseries

The subseries consists of documents compiled by various government agencies and civilian witnesses for exhibit during the RCMP Public Complaints Commission. The exhibits consist of correspondence, witness statements, police statements, photographs and videotapes and other materials considered pertinent for inclusion in the PCC. The series also includes the Commission's Interim Report, published in July 2001. The exhibits are arranged in alpha-numeric order where applicable and then by creating agency or individual.

APEC Alert and Jonathan Oppenheim Documents subseries

The subseries consists of materials created and disseminated by APEC Alert before the APEC summit and in its aftermath and materials collected and created by Jonathan Oppenheim. It consists of posters, pamphlets, and ephemera produced by APEC Alert, information about APEC and the leaders of the APEC countries; News Releases about the PCC and a letter written to UBC faculty. In addition, it includes documents composed by Oppenheim and other APEC Alert members in their attempts to subpoena then Prime Minister Jean Chretien to appear at the RCMP PCC.
