Snapshots Victoria B.C.

A photo album from a British Columbian woman known only as K.B.S. Predominantly family snapshots, as well as photos of travels throughout British Columbia, including Salt Spring Island, Shawnigan Lake, and Victoria. The cover of the leather album is adorned with an image of an Aboriginal chief and a simple landscape. Photos and album are still in good condition. The first large number of images are captioned, but towards the end most are not.

49 clippings and a journal related to the Canadian Pacific Railway Company's Trans-Pacific Empress steamships and Trans-Pacific service, including a few newspaper articles pertaining to the sinking of the first Empress of Canada, the destruction of the Empress of Russia, and an article concerning a model of the Empress of Asia.

[Elko Hotel ledger]

A ledger showing purchases of goods from a hotel in Elko, B.C. Chinese inscriptions indicate that the hotel was either owned by a Chinese person, or that a Chinese person was employed there.

[Abramson Family Album]

A family album that comes from the estate of one Mr. Abramson, a former Consul General of the United States to Canada. The photos are from throughout British Columbia and California, in Kelowna in particular. Most of the images are captioned, but many are too faded to be fully legible. There is some significant damage to the album and some of the photographs. One negative is also tucked into the album.

[Istanbul Photo Album]

An album of photographs and postcards of Istanbul (referred to as Stamboul or Constantinople throughout). Most of the images include type-written captions. The album comes from the estate of one Mr. Abramson, a former Consul General of the United States to Canada, and it is possible that he is the creator. A second album of Istanbul photos, also from Abramson's estate, is dated 1928, and is believed to be from the same trip (see UL_1293/1734 #4). The album, photos, and captions are all in good shape.

An album of a Vancouver family, documenting their travels throughout B.C. and the United States as well as life in Vancouver, including the royal visit of 1939. The pages are beginning to tear out of the album, but the photos are still in relatively good shape (with some fading).

K. Seaton's second C.P. R.M.S. Empress of Britain's world tour album

This album consists of photographs taken by perhaps Ken Seaton during a world cruise on the second C.P. R.M.S. Empress of Britain. With the photographs is a card inscribed: "With best wishes for a happy Xmas from Lily and Ron". The card also has a photograph mounted inside of it of newlywed Ken Seaton and his spouse from Southampton, UK.

This album consists of photographs, postcards and other related ephemera related to the voyages aboard the first C.P. R.M.S. Empress of Australia, a C.P.R. railway trip through western Canada, and some photographs of the S.S. Montrose and sailors after the ship was renamed as the H.M.S. Forfar.

This album consists of photographs of the launching of the second C.P. R.M.S. Empress of Britain by the H.R.H. The Prince of Wales in Glasgow, Scotland. The album includes several photographs of H.R.H. The Prince of Wales with Edward W. Beatty, Chairman of the Canadian Pacific Railway Company, and Lord Aberconway and Sir Thomas Bell, the Chairman and Managing Director of John Brown and Company, the company responsible for the construction of the ship.

Canadian Pacific Cruises second Empress of Britain's world tour album

A Canadian Pacific Cruises folder that held photographs of the second C.P. R.M.S. Empress of Britain, its crew, passengers, and ports of call, including photographs of the ship in Southampton, Auckland, New Zealand, Melbourne, Australia, Hong Kong, the Panama Canal, and San Francisco with passengers celebrating New Year's Eve and a photograph of a Neptune ceremony held aboard the outer deck.

This album consists of the C.P.R. Empress Line ships, the second C.P. R.M.S. Empress of Japan, the C.P. R.M.S. Empress of Canadian, the C.P. R.M.S. Empress of Asia, the C.P. R.M.S. Empress of Russia and the S.S. Aorangi and the S.S. Niagara. Also included in the album is a picture of a Canadian Pacific airplane and the H.M.S. Danae.

Clippings and textual material relating to Captain Leonard Johnston

File contains records of his sea service for the years 1939-1942 and 1942-1945 from the Department of Transport, a few letters to Johnston from that department listing his second world war medals, a pilotage certificate granted to Johnston in 1964, and some newspaper clippings.
