[2016 Christmas card]

Christmas card by the creator with artwork depicting a Santa-like figure named Bartholomew Green, who is gathering penguins to fly his sleigh (which is depicted on the inside of the card). Part of the card can also be torn off and used as a bookmark. Envelope features a hand-drawn postage stamp.

A Celebration of Nature: notes, receipt, and signed poster

File consists of material from the second exhibition of Charles' work in 1985 at Salmagundi (in Vancouver). Materials include a signed poster for the show, notes written by the show's curator, a receipt for purchases made for the show, and a small tag written by Charles that identifies these materials.

A Christmas Book

This small book was made by Heavenly Monkey Press, with illustrations by Charles. This is copy 2 of 15, and is signed and annotated by Rollin from Heavenly Monkey and signed b y Charles.

Alice and the Dodo, watercolour

Item is an original watercolour depicting a scene from Alice in Wonderland in which Alice converses with the Dodo. A rat is perched beside her on a soap box and a parrot sits on a branch overhead.

Animal Wisdom: signed press proofs

File consists of four signed press proofs for the book Animal Wisdom, each showing multiple pages from the book with printing on recto and verso. According to paperwork from the Joyce Williams Gallery that accompanied these materials, this is Charles' most popular book.

Artemis exhibition: signed poster

Signed poster for exhibition at the Artemis gallery in Deep Cove, North Vancouver. The poster describes the event as "An intimate look into the world & works of Charles Van Sandwyk... A spur-of-the-moment exhibition to celebrate the arrival of new street banners designed by Charles for his neighbours in the Cove."

Fonds consists of material that reflects Charles van Sandwyk's development as an artist, illustrator and publisher of fine books in Vancouver. Materials include original artwork (watercolours, etchings), exhibition posters, book and book signing announcements, press proofs, broadsides, invitations, edition of the High Branch Society mail-outs (which include letters, cards, decorative envelopes, poems, and small copies of art), fabric banners, and medallions. Most of the items are signed by Charles. Some of these materials were brought together by Charles and the Joyce Williams Gallery; the arrangement of that material as it arrived has been maintained. Other materials were purchased from the creator and maintain the original order at the time of their acquisition.

File contains two of the banners that Charles' designed for the village of Deep Cove in North Vancouver (where he resides for part of the year), as well as prints of the watercolours used on the banners. There were two versions of the banners produced, each depicting a different scene from Deep Cove.
